BetweenThePipes00 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Yes, that's exactly what I think. That, and he also likes being moderately famous in a small town because there are benefits that come with that as well. Winning? Playing great hockey? No. Far be it from me to defend most of The Skill's tenure here, but this is just way off base. If anything, he seems totally uncomfortable being at all famous and doesn't even like talking to the media most of the time, let alone strangers. For some guys the attention might be nice, but what are these "benefits" you speak of for him? Having to listen to everyone say you suck and should be shipped out of town? Who exactly is lining up to buy this guy beers?
Taro T Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 I look at it this way. Having this group with playoff experience: Myers, Ennis, Kaleta, Boyes, Stafford etc. is worth a second round pick. Connolly may have gotten a second rounder. Maybe. Playing out the season with a center depth chart that looks like: Hecht Gaustad McCormick Neidermeyer Just makes very little sense. While keeping TC doesn't make me hooray. I like him better than a mid-2nd round pick at this point. Sounds reasonable. Not thrilled he's still here, but the 1-2 rounds of playoffs if they can get there probably will help the young guys down the road. I'm not sold that they're in, but am hoping.
elcrusho Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Not 100% sure, but I don't think you can buy out a contract during the season. Sure you can... a lead pipe will do wonders across a knee

Sekera, Butler, Weber ... all young guys who could use a taste of the playoffs. If for no other reason than to see which ones are worth keeping and which ones could be moved in the search for the elusive true #1 center. Either they become more valuable in trade or it becomes more clear which one(s) to give up on.

wonderbread Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 I agree with BTP/XB. While he is not preforming up to his contract he does appear to care. To coincide w/ PA he had his faced mashed and came back. The guy was getting paid regardless. I'd prefer he help the push this year. Also the guy has been off for a while maybe he gets it together for 20 games w/ Boyes. So he can get a payday on 7/1 from someone else. I wish him no ill will.

I am in agreement..My very first choice wouldve been for them to go get a real center and then not even worry about Timmy..But since they didnt get that center I cant say I dont mind having him around..Now if the plan all along was to not even go get a center and ride with Timmy as the number one then(which I wouldnt put past Regier) Terry needs to rethink Keeping Darcy around..We will never know the truth however I think we all can imagine what went down....
Bmwolf21 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 I can't stand Tiny Tim. Hate him being on the roster with a passion. Praying that DR and co are smart enough to part ways with him in the offseason. All that being said, I can understand keeping him right now. Unless you were absolutely blown away by an offer that had at least a no.2 center coming back, then I get keeping him at the deadline. I don't like it, because I'm afraid that he gets hot and throws together a little streak that makes DR give him an extension.
Buffalo Wings Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 I'm feeling a lot of this too. The team "exists to win the Stanley Cup" but they're keeping Connolly for two more months? What a joke. A draft pick -- ANY draft pick -- will do more to help us win the Cup than Tim Connolly ever will (unless we miraculously win it all this spring). This is embarrassing. I'm willing to give this some time. Just because Pegula takes over doesn't necessarily mean that the house gets cleaned immediately. Maybe they want to make the playoffs...hard to believe, I know, but perhaps a little extra playoff experience won't hurt this team going forward. That said, I do want to see something significant starting July 1st. Vogl's case for Connolly, plus what X said makes enough sense for me as to why they're keeping him.

He has to be a better option than any of those four...hence the reason they're keeping Connolly.
Kristian Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 I think they're going to stick with Boyes at center no matter what. Stoner Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Didn't Lindy say they'd be playing Boyes on the wing with Connolly centering? Lindy never changes his mind.
Buffalo Wings Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Didn't Lindy say they'd be playing Boyes on the wing with Connolly centering? I missed it if he did. My point was pure speculation - I didn't hear any pressers or see too many comments about what they'd do with him.
Skibum Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 THe bottom line is that if you trade Connolly now, with Roy out, you are giving up on the season. I just don't think Byron and Adam are ready to step in and do what Timmy does on defense (which has been the strongest part of his game this year and deserves some credit). I think that if Roy was healthy, TC would have been moved for whatever was available. But since there were probably very few, if any, adequate replacements at center on the market this year there wasn't much Darcy could do but just keep TC around for the playoff run. Who knows, he played junior hockey with Boyes and they had really good chemistry. Maybe this trade will wake him up a little. We know the talent is there.
