X. Benedict Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 If they do move Boyes to center and don't make any other moves, those would be the lines I'd go with. That way the right handed center is feeding the more dangerous (IMHO) winger. You then get Hecht back on the 3rd line where he belongs. I'd still prefer to see TC out of here and haven't given up hope that it'll happen. I don't see how they can move TC without a center coming back, unfortunately.
Taro T Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 I don't see how they can move TC without a center coming back, unfortunately. Well, they kind of already got a center last night (in a Jochen Hecht sort of way). Also, I'm looking at all these deals as being for next year. Unless they make the Brad Richards type of trade, I don't see this team going far this year. So I don't really mind being a little thinner at C than they currently are, if it means having an asset moving forward for a guy that I don't see them signing this off-season.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 One unknown with Boyes... He has played 472 regular season games and only 4 playoff games. Is he a guy who raises his level of play come playoff time or disappears? You'll probably find out in 2013.

Yes, I want him gone that bad, and as long as he's here I'm scared to death that Darcy will re-sign him :wallbash:

If Wiese is available in Florida - I think he's the type of player you can overpay for..... That would free up TC to go and trade for a Wayne Simmonds type of player. (of course just dreaming out loud here)

wonderbread Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Weiss is also watching his team get blown up. I bet he waives to go somewhere. I personally have thought Weiss would be a good player for the last 3 years. Not tooting my own horn but I feel he'd be a great addition to this Club.

Eleven Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Checking in from vacation to say that I am happy with this trade. A second-round pick for Boyes's services through next year is a good deal, IMO.
rickshaw Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Love this trade. Boyes needed a change of scenery and will be relied on to perform. He seems like the type of guy who goes to work and puts in an honest effort each night. And with him having another season to follow, this move is definitely an upgrade.
nobody Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 So per TBN and WGR - Lindy expects Boyes to play wing on a line centered by Connolly. So that will leave Hecht centering Vanek probably. So easy to see the negatives - must try to change my thinking. It's a new era, it's a new era.

I sure hope so - Vanek has been playing great hockey lately, but put Connolly out as his center and he was freaking invisible against Detroit. Good players make those around them better. The tin man drags them down to his level.

Ennis? Hecht is tailor made for the third line. Come on Darcy, let's get a centreman in the next 2+ hours!

X. Benedict Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Don Cherry calling Boyes to Buffalo for a 2nd a great trade on Fan590 a sec. ago. Criticizing Burke for not making the deal. FWIW.
Derrico Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 If they get a center before the close of business, don't expect the Sabres to go for one on July 1 I didn't see any big names out there on July 1 anyways. Might be smarter getting some guys via trade, granted if they don't have to give up too much.

Connolly will destroy Boyes +/- figure as he coughs the puck up again and again. I feel bad for Boyes, and I literally am disgusted at Regier for keeping Connolly. I truly believe Byron or Adam couldn't do any worse than Timmy. The guy just has nose dived this season and I see no reason to believe he's going to turn it around this late in the season.
Weave Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 If Boyes stays on the wing I see Gerbe getting the pressbox. Vanek Hecht Stafford Ennis Connolly Boyes Grier Neidermayer Pommer McCormick Goose Kaleta Yep. Almost makes sense, Pommer on a shutdown line. I still hate seeing Connolly's name in that lineup.

Connolly had some talent when he showed up 800 years ago, but he's managed to accumulate so many bad habits that he's rendered himself completely ineffective.

I don't think Gerbe will get benched, at least not right away -- that Gaustad-Gerbe-Kaleta line has been pretty strong in the last couple of games.

This is true. It would have to be Neids that sits then. Cody has been playing really well for us and needs to stay in the lineup IMO.
