dumb_dumb88 Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Am I the only one having a hard time grouping the last six games together? Yes, it was six games in a row at home but the Sabres were one team for those first three (an 0-3 bad team) and another team in the last three (a 5 points in three games good team). The home stand wasn't great but it's weird to wait until they get 5 points in 3 games to declare it a failure. Even a win tonight would have only made it 6 points out of a possible 12, and therefore not a great homestand. If the Sabres had won tonight, would people still be complaining? The last three games were pretty good. I barely remember the three before that. Let's keep moving forward. Wow, over react much? That's from my wife. The point of the post was to say they are having troubles with home games, given the playoff race. But, if you noticed, I did say they played a decent game. I don't see the complaint, but I'm sure you'll point it out to me.
bunomatic Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 What a brutal homestand. Only picked up 5 of 12 points. If it wasn't for Carolina's ineptitude, this could have knocked us out of contention. Apologies to all the optimists here, but I don't like our chances making the playoffs, let alone getting past the first round. These guys just don't have it in them, and I'm also betting Pegula agrees 100% with me. Another 2 goal lead blown by Ryan "Clutch" Miller? Give me a break. Mmmm, what were the shots in the 3rd? 17-6 or some lopsided number like that. Miller did his job. This falls on the rest of the team.
thesportsbuff Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 I'm glad they got the point but they honestly tonight was probably their best game. They played well but weren't stellar even in wins vs Atlanta and Ottawa. In fact if not for Miller, Ottawa might have stolen that one, and it took til the third period for Buffalo to really take over the game vs Atlanta. So I'm glad they got the points, but there's work to do.
wonderbread Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Who is the postive supervillian? A most enlightening post. ;) Did scott have a talk with you? Did I see he who bears the cross here tonight as well. Hey boys were getting the band back together! :w00t: I stated earlier in the week three points are what they need and I am satisfied the team can gel on the road trip. Maybe The make up of this team is radically different at 3 pm Monday. I can't wait to see Darcy 3.0 in action. Classic DD with the Peanut butter line. This threads has more estrogen in it than pregnant horse piss.
wonderbread Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Another 2 goal lead blown by Ryan "Clutch" Miller? Give me a break. I think he kept them in it the whole game. Nice saves. The Detroit D wore them down. Can't fault Miller here. IMO.
deluca67 Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 I think he kept them in it the whole game. Nice saves. The Detroit D wore them down. Can't fault Miller here. IMO. 35 saves on 37 shots against a team that no one would be shocked if they won the Stanley Cup is not a bad effort. Miller held them under their season average of 3.26 goals on 33.6 shots per game.
UncleWally Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 HE HE HE, flyers lose to ottawa. Well done Sens.
wonderbread Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 HE HE HE, flyers lose to ottawa. Well done Sens. Nice. Lesser of two evils.
Two or less Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 35 saves on 37 shots against a team that no one would be shocked if they won the Stanley Cup is not a bad effort. Miller held them under their season average of 3.26 goals on 33.6 shots per game. Essp. since the last goal was due to Butler losing control of his stick and Gerbe falling asleep. Nothing Miller could do on that play.

Like I said, 5 points out of 12 actually IS a disappointing homestand, but it's such a weird thing to point out after the last three games.
Guest Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 The Sabres disappeared in the third period. It's their MO, they begin a game playing physical and taking a lead then once they have the lead they start to play like little girls trying to protect the lead and they depend way too much on Miller to get them the win. Miller was stellar in this game and is the only reason Detroit didn't win in regulation. Buffalo gave that second point away today by letting a shaky backup goaltender off the the hook by thinking 2-0 was enough against the 3rd best team in the league. And the shootout was an absolute joke. What are two of the best at putting the puck in the net taking shots from 15 feet out and not even attempting to deek out a backup goaltender? They made it easy for him. Stafford is pretty good with the backhander on shootouts and why he doesn't go to it more is beyond me. Hell, both Detroit's SO goals were on backhanders.
87168 Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Make sure you use the Peter Pan creamy next time. Sometimes the chunky will get the little guy confused down there. That's pretty disturbing.
wjag Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Make sure you use the Peter Pan creamy next time. Sometimes the chunky will get the little guy confused down there. Good thing I wasn't drinking something when I read this line. Mmmm, what were the shots in the 3rd? 17-6 or some lopsided number like that. Miller did his job. This falls on the rest of the team. Detroit was absolutely swarming them.
carpandean Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 And the shootout was an absolute joke. Stafford is pretty good with the backhander on shootouts and why he doesn't go to it more is beyond me. Hell, both Detroit's SO goals were on backhanders. Vanek has gone 5 for 5 to this point in the SO using shots, not dekes. When was the last time you say Vanek pull a deke move on a goaltender? He blows it by them with slapshots most of the time. As for Stafford, he mixes it up, as he should (heck, even Kotalik took the occasional shot to keep 'em guessing and he's the own who Stafford learned that backhand move from.) He saw an open five hole, but the goaltender closed it. Datsyuk, who is one of the slickest players in the NHL, put it off the pipe, off the crossbar, and down just behind the line. Hudler also put if off the crossbar and then off of Miller's back.
CallawaySabres Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Bottom line, we know this is not a great team. Carolina got beat in regulation and Buffalo got a point off of Detroit after a back to back to pull within 2 points with 2 in hand. Be happy - it is what it is right now.

Like I said, 5 points out of 12 actually IS a disappointing homestand, but it's such a weird thing to point out after the last three games. It all has to be put into the context of the Sabres being 25th in the league at home.
Stoner Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Essp. since the last goal was due to Butler losing control of his stick and Gerbe falling asleep. Nothing Miller could do on that play. What the heck happened to Butler? Actually, that was pretty funny. Houdini never got in a jam like that. Was his stick caught behind his back, pulling the sweater back with it, almost straitjacketing him? And then someone passes you the puck. LOL

It's Lindy's MO too. Grier said after the game the Sabres sat back too much.
Stoner Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 So maybe Ryan was right. Vogl might write his stories in the second period. Mentioned the coming road trip, then transitioned to the game: "The Sabres said goodbye in style."
Marvelo Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 They played a great first but the wheels fell off in the second period. Then they turtled in the third. They were lucky to be that close and pick up a point at all. Maybe they were gassed from the night before or maybe there is a character problem holding a two goal lead. But this was Detroit we're talking about and you need an honest 60 minute effort every time to beat them. All I know is I'm shell-shocked with our power play. I'm almost expecting a goal coming back every time. I have no confidence in the defense on the pp whatsoever.
