Stormin Norman Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 As a Buffalo Fan(atic), I can only think of one other time when I have experienced as much HOPE and EXCITEMENT about the future as I did during Mr. Pegula's press conference the other day: that's when Jim Kelly played his first regular season game for the Buffalo Bills, putting on a sparkling show in a home loss to the New York Jets. There are other notable moments. For example, the wheel landing on Number 11 during the Sabres' first entry draft, enabling Buffalo to select my hero, Gilbert Perreault. And maybe the big trade Bill Polian pulled off to get Cornelius Bennett. What are some of your most momentus moments of HOPE as a Buffalo Fan?
Weave Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Jim Kelly finally showing up in Buffalo.

Stoner Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 When Scotty Bowman had all those first round picks in 82 and 83, I thought the Cup was just around the bend.

notwoz Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 He got those drafts right, that's for sure. No argument about his draft choices.

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-Fontaine being brought in and the Sabres beat the Snarks pretty handily the next game and then just destroying the Whalers in his 1st game as a Sabre.
Stormin Norman Posted February 24, 2011 Author Report Posted February 24, 2011 I started the thread, but just thinking of some other ones that raised the HOPE barometer for me big time: The hiring of Chuck Knox (a legitimate winning coach) Definitely brining in Pat LaLaLaLaFontaine (and pairing him with Mogilny. Remember Rick J's call on that first power play they were on together?) Scotty Bowman (Buffalo being the ONLY hockey franchise in history not to have a Cup associated with Scotty) Names I cannot add because they don't ping the hope meter enough Drew Bledsoe and Willis McGahee
inkman Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 My feelings for this new regime are tepid at best.
NoVASabresFan Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 There was definitely a lot of hope when Bledsoe came to town - 1500 season tickets sold in four days.
wjag Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 The day the Bills beat the Dolphins in 1980 after a decade of utter futility. I was in the stadium, it was, what's that word, oh yeah, bedlam. Beating Oakland 50-3 in the AFC Championship game was a close second.

The confidence I had after the Bills utterly dismantled the Raiders was Huuuuuuuugggggge - ah! And I thought having only one week between that game and the Super Bowl would be to our advantage -- staying in rhythm and being pretty fresh after an "easy" victory.
