With Roy as a #3 center. The f**king power-play would be amazing. Richards, Stastny, Vanek, Myers and Roy would be sick.

I wouldn't mind shipping Roysie out as part of the Stastny package, and I think Roy needs to be included on your list of valuable Sabres assets that are realistically going to be part of any trade for a Stastny-type player.

Having said that, I'd be quite happy with Roy as my #3 center.

You're feeling delirious, in that case. There is NFW SJ is trading Pavelski.

Pavelski ='s 4mil a year. They have Couture in the Pipline about to be better perhaps with a year left on his deal. They are at the cap and have other guys signed for long contracts. They are deep at center and week on the right wing. So rivets 1.75 + Staffords 1.9 + 2nd round pick would totally move Pavelski especially since drew is a RFA which means they have his rights and can resign him. Its an interesting thought if you look at it and the fact that Rivet probably went on waivers for a reason and then is on rentry waivers. Probably no, impossible no.

Please direct your trading talk to the appropriate threads.

I am talking Rivet and his reasons for being on waivers in the first place. It could be part of a trade. Especially since he is on rentry waivers and SJ may claim him

Pavelski is their #2 center. He's 4th among their forwards in ice time. He has 43 pts in 53 games. He's 26 and in his 4th full NHL season. He's become a steadily more productive scorer over the course of his career.

You are right that it's not impossible that they would trade him. I think though that there is NFW that they would trade him unless it's part of a package for a full-blown star. They gave up less than that for Heatley, for Pete's sake. They certainly won't trade him to free up cap space for Rivet.

I feel like toddkaz has returned to the board.

It's been a while, but wasn't toddkaz an angry lunatic? That is a different kettle of fish from a poster floating a speculative trade possibility -- even if it's a silly one and the poster sticks to his guns about it.

Toddkaz trolled this place too? He hung out at Letsgosabres for a bit too. 'roid ragin' on the interwebs that guy was.

Anywhooooo..... I can't see SJ having any interest in Rivet if it means they have to move a key piece of their team to do it. Rivet just isn't that valuable.

Now if we wanna talk about getting a center from SJ in the offseason, I could totally see that happening if SJ has a disappointing post season. Again.

Since he will go on re-entry waivers tomorrow, any team can snag him, give up nothing to do so, AND have the Sabres pay half his remaining salary. I don't think SJ is going to give us pavelski for him, or consider him as any type of added value in any other trade.

PS I'd be willing to give up Vanek in a trade for Stastny and throw in more if needed

Idk, Vanek really seems to be coming into his own. If they could move stafford+ whatever, I'd be all for it.

You mean the same old hot and cold Vanek who had 3 goals and 7 points in 3 games, and then immediately followed that with a current stretch of 0 goals and 3 points in his last 6 games, that coincides with a stretch where the Sabres desperately needed some goals from their primary goal scorer?

Sorry for the run-on sentence. :nana:

The premise being discussed up-thread (oooo, I feel like one of the cool ones now) was that the trade with SJ would be so SJ can clear cap space for getting Rivet. I was saying that SJ wouldn't be interested in Rivet if they had to clear space under the cap to do it.

And yeah, since he cleared waivers already he has no value even as a throw in.

The premise being discussed up thread (not by you) was a ridiculous one. That's where my response was aimed.

So they want to help him out and find him a place to play, but if no one's going to take him, they're going to keep him within the organization for the rest of the year. I don't blame them for that. Even if he's not playing he's still an asset to the team. Yeah, he doesn't bring much to the table anymore, but they can still get something out of him at some level or in extreme emergency. It's pretty much the same reason we still let d4rksabre still post around here.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

If Stastny was coming this way, there would be also be some cap relief in terms of who is going back. The Avs wouldn't be asking for picks and minor/junior prospects.

Same here.

I wouldn't trade Vanek for Stastny straight up, but I would go Stafford and a 1st.

 sorry SDS

Not so fast, mister. "Up-thread" isn't just a catchphrase. It's a lifestyle. Word.

I think this is where I am as well. I would probably up the ante if needed to Stafford and Enroth, or to Roy and a #1, but I think I would not go as far as Stafford and Kassian or Roy and Enroth.

I agree with this. Trading a top line wing for a top line center is just changing the location of your hole. We need to add top line talent, not trade away talent we have no replacement for.

Sorry to rain on the fantasies here of Vanek for Stastny, but back to the topic, Habs announce Spacek is out for the year. I would be shocked if Montreal doesn't get him, either via trade or wait to risk it via re-entry.

Rivet can officially go on rentry waivers at noon and his salary is prorated at around 450k for a team to pick up... Craig Rivet, btw through all this has been a great guy and has said nothing bad about Lindi's coaching decision to sit him or Regier waiting to waive him. Hes been publicly supporting the team and going to practice and I wish he was about 5 years younger cuz hes clearly a really good guy and its unfortunate he couldnt have joined this team now with pegula about to make it cup worthy. Rivet is something rare, a gentlemen and a mature athlete who supports the team hes on no matter what. I hope honestly that someone claims him and he plays well for them.

Looks like Chicago now wants Rivet.
