Realist Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Rivet has been assigned to Portland and will be placed on Re-entry waivers tomorrow. Per Bill Hoppe.
Two or less Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 According to Bill Hoppe- "Sabres will assign captain Craig Rivet to Portland, then will place him on re-entry waivers tomorrow"
SabresMojo Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Now what... We dont have him for the rest of the year?
Rico7 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 According to Bill Hoppe- "Sabres will assign captain Craig Rivet to Portland, then will place him on re-entry waivers tomorrow" Does that mean he's not going to Portland?
Realist Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Eklund claims (I know, its Eklund) that there's a good chance he'll be picked up on re-entry possibly by San Jose.
SabresMojo Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Once on re-entry, it'll be seen if a team will take him at half price.
Rip Titwide Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Eklund claims (I know, its Eklund) that there's a good chance he'll be picked up on re-entry possibly by San Jose. I'd duck if I were you...
shrader Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 So they want to help him out and find him a place to play, but if no one's going to take him, they're going to keep him within the organization for the rest of the year. I don't blame them for that. Even if he's not playing he's still an asset to the team. Yeah, he doesn't bring much to the table anymore, but they can still get something out of him at some level or in extreme emergency. It's pretty much the same reason we still let d4rksabre still post around here.

X. Benedict Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 According to Bill Hoppe- "Sabres will assign captain Craig Rivet to Portland, then will place him on re-entry waivers tomorrow" Thanks Billy, if you still read this.

This looks to me like another step by the new ownership regime to demonstrate to the players that they are willing to help them even if it costs extra $$ -- ie instead of stashing Rivet in Portland in case they need him, they are willing to eat half of his salary in order to help him catch on with another team.

Hoping he'll catch on at half price. That's cool.
Weave Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Their current roster projects to $4.3 million in cap space at the end of the year. Which, according to capgeek.com, equates to the prorated portion of roughly $17.8 million in contracts for this year left under the cap. http://www.capgeek.com/tracker/team.php?team=8 It was the $17.8M that I wasn't getting. I get it now.
dumb_dumb88 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Stastny and Liles not at Colorado practice today.
Two or less Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Stastny and Liles not at Colorado practice today. Despite having defensive flaws, i'd love to have Liles here. Puck moving d-men are a rarity. Although, i have read that the Maple Leafs are favorites to land him.
shrader Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 It was the $17.8M that I wasn't getting. I get it now. That link does lay it out nicely. Not that it matters, but it does still ignore the extra boost they are entitled to use with Roy out.
X. Benedict Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Stastny and Liles not at Colorado practice today. Whoa........gimme Stastny! Kovalev to pittsburgh...I think things are going to move today.
TheRick Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Other moves than Kovalev, D Ellis went to the Ducks and Brent Sopel went to the Habs. Things are heating up
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Whoa........gimme Stastny! Kovalev to pittsburgh...I think things are going to move today. Darcy's like the last guy in line at the buffet. Once all the crab legs and peel'n'eat shrip are picked over, I'm sure we'll get a fine plate of steamed tofu and some melon balls. Unless T-Peg springs for the $49 Peking duck.
nfreeman Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Whoa........gimme Stastny! Kovalev to pittsburgh...I think things are going to move today. Holy mackerel that would be sweet. Unless T-Peg springs for the $49 Peking duck. There's a new sugar daddy in town. It's gonna be Peking duck as far as the eye can see! The only question left is whether Brad Richards is #1 and Stastny #2, or is it the other way around?
dumb_dumb88 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Marc Staal not on ice at Rangers' practice. per Larry Brooks.

Richards, Stastny, Vanek, Myers and Roy would be sick.
LGR4GM Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 I'm feeling Stafford to SJ now and Pavelski comin the other way if they get Rivet off waivers.
nfreeman Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 I'm feeling Stafford to SJ now and Pavelski comin the other way if they get Rivet off waivers. You're feeling delirious, in that case. There is NFW SJ is trading Pavelski.
