matter2003 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I don't want to sound too sappy, but when Pegula looked over to Perrault and told him through tears that "You're my hero", my eyes welled up and I almost started crying too...we are entering something unprecedented in Buffalo sports...having an owner who grew up loving the team, and who only cares about how many Stanley Cups this team can win. His response when asked if he was afraid of losing money was classic---"I'm only interested in winning Stanley Cups. If I need money I'll go drill a gas well." The 2nd richest owner in the NHL is putting other owners on blast that he is about to make full use of his prodigious monetary resources to turn this team into a top destination for players...it's on, and this is gonna be one of the greatest rides I've ever been on. Buffalo Sabres fans, someone has finally smiled on us. Please don't pinch me, I don't want to wake up from the dream I'm in...it just all sounds too good to be true, but for once, its not.
IKnowPhysics Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I'm man enough to admit that I get weepy like a little girl when I watch old highlights and think how much those memories mean to me, to Sabres fans, and to the City of Buffalo. Pegula gets it, and I'm ecstatic that he does; I was moved by his emotional accomplishment of checking off line one on a list of Sabre dreams.
weaz Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Man all I can say is wow a fan as a owner it doesn't get any better than that!!!!!!!!! Lets go Buffalo and maybe this will give the players something to PLAY for !!!!!!!!!!

It's ok to wake up and enjoy the moment, in the words of Ted Black- "People are thinking maybe this is too good to be true. Sometimes things are too good and true."

Finally, I say we're even.

Taro T Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I agree totally. It's almost impossible to conceptualize a Buffalo team with unlimited resources. All due respect to the Knox's but we finally have an owner who's committed resources to win match our desire to have a parade - unlimited. Just this once it's not so hard to imagine a warm, June night (week?) of revelry followed by a sunny, warm, June parade. My sons are there. I'm there. My Dad is there. Hell, we'll grab Granddad's ashes and bring them too. I'm not going to say we're owed it because nobody is owed anything. I will suggest however, that we've earned it. Terry, can I interest you in a football team while you're at it? One of my initial thoughts to hearing that a very deep pocketed FAN was interested in becoming the Sabres' owner. Why not own 'em all. The one (dampening) thought on this day that this thread brings up for me is just how much it stinks right now to be a hockey fan in Millbank's neck of the woods. They've got a potential owner that would be just as much 'cuckoo for cocoa puffs' as our new owner seems to be; but with no way to get a team. In a world where a Rigas or Golisano owns the Sabres, I don't see how a team in Hamilton doesn't eventually scuttle the Sabres. (Yes, I know RIM Boy wants to eventually have a team in Waterloo/Kitchener, but it'll take a while to get there.) But in a TP world, I think there just might be enough room for both.
dudacek Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I am trying to remember the last time I have felt this good to be a sabre fan... Drury vs New York? Pommer vs Ottawa? No more excuses for players, coaches and management.
mrm33064 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 And here's the beauty: His statements about finances notwithstanding, I hope he makes TON$ on this, and he can be assured we'll all do our part to make that so. I - along with every other Sabres fan who no longer lives in WNY but also still gets all verklempt watching Perreault flashbacks - will continue to fly back to Buffalo to support the team at the box office, purchase jerseys and other merchandise, and goose up the Versus ratings. Sabre Nation isn't just in WNY.
