gregkash
I really liked what Black said, while terry was emotional as owner, Black was in full sell mode. "Buffalo is hockey heaven" Someone look up the exact quote he said in that block, because that's going to be important going forward. He served notice to the NHL that Buffalo is going to be the place to come play hockey.
Figster
He could have easily worked in a comment like... "trust me, these Sabres will be razor sharp." <pause - look down, look up> "yeah, yeah, yeah..." Nice SDS, and fitting
Kristian
I don't buy too much into the vote of confidence for Darcy. What else is he supposed to say during his introductory news conference? Trash the guy? He'll keep him for the rest of the year for sure but beyond that I think is anyone's guess. Now get to work Darcy! My thoughts exactly, and that goes for Lindy as well.

Now get to work Darcy! Agreed. When I listened to Pegula talking about removing spending restrictions, increased scouting and player development budgets, my take was that he's going to give Darcy all the rope he needs to hang himself. If Darcy turns the team around he stays, if Darcy can't do it, he'll be on the outside looking in. I guess the question is how much time does Darcy get. I noted a degree of patience in comments by Pegula and Black.
bills_fan_in_raleigh
His worst moment as a fan is game 7 loss to carolina versus the game 6 loss to stars. Now this guy hits home for me. That was my worse until the Carolina loss and than seeing them win the cup was even more disgusting
dumb_dumb88
Today is a day of celebration for Sabres fans. Let us rejoice at today's events, but not forget that there is much work to be done. There are dragons to be slayin, old habbits to kick and changes to make in an effort to achieve Cup Contention status. So let the work begin anew in Buffalo. As our new owner just said: "Starting today, the Buffalo Sabres' reason for existence will be to win the Stanley Cup," There is now a sense of purpose beyond the salvation of an NHL Franchise in Buffalo, there is now HOPE!

I noted a degree of patience in comments by Pegula and Black. Which is how it should be. Prior to the press conference, I'd have thought he'd have into this off-season and how far into the offseason would be based on this week and on how the Stafford negotiations go. Now, I expect he'll be here at least through Christmas and probably all of next year. Now, the excuses are gone. I think he can get the job done. If not, he'll be gone. And I disagree with the posters that think keeping Darcy for 1 season too long (if it happens) will be setting the team back irreparably. The Phlyers were a mess that 2nd year out of the lockout. A year later they were in the semifinals.
Mike Oxhurtz
Well, it was a great 1st impression. He (partially) answered the Q's I had, and he gave more info than I'd expected. I love that he said he's going to increase the scouting budget - both personnel & the video side of it. I also love that he's planning on making the amenities for the players top notch. He will also bring in additional 'development' coaches. And I loved the quotes about Perreault and (paraphrasing here) 'if I want to make money, I'll drill a gas well.' And the question about whether Darcy can get it done when he isn't dealing w/ significant constraints will finally be answered. I'm not certain that he can, but he's shown enough in the past to make me believe he could. I agree 100% Terry gave me a very good first impression as well. I loved that he said that there is no salary cap on scouting and to borrow your quote: 'if I want to make money, I'll drill a gas well.' Now, the shackles are off Regier & Ruff. There should be no more excuses for these guys. I'm not expecting miracles this year, but I'm expecting some improvement over the next few seasons. Happy Pegula Day everyone...GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!! thesportsbuff
I'm still super excited about Pegula taking over, but yeah, I get the feeling he's not going to make any major moves this year. I get the impression he's just going to let this year play out and wait til the off-season... kind of what I expected all along. I guess we'll see. Also as another poster mentioned.. his worst moment in Sabres history was game 7 against Carolina... I would agree with that 100% and I've said those exact words before. That was the worst day of my life. '99 was rough, but face it, I was 9 years old. 2006 was just.. incredible.

That's how I'm forcing myself to think about it instead of being pissy about Lindy and Darcy and diminishing what was a beautiful moment in the history of the franchise. But, yeah, the excuses have run out. It's just a matter of how much time these guys have now. Reading Pegula, I suspect he'll be very patient and loyal (see Art Rooney quote), maybe to a fault -- and maybe even blame himself or his management team if the Sabres don't become contenders quickly. bills_fan_in_raleigh
I liked one of his comments on NHL network he isnt looking for a fix for just this season but a fix for the long term. So the only moves I think we will see are ones that we trade a TC for a potential young talent and picks, problem is what team feels that they can give up a prospect for Timmy? mphs mike
I loved the Perreault references. For old timers like me, it all began with Perreault and I'd love to see the excitement return that existed in the 70's. I couldn't agree more. Hear where he told Paul Hamilton after the presser that he plans on winning the cup in three years or less? Wow. I didn't hear that. Thanks for posting it! Even if it takes 10 years for Pegula to win a Cup, I don't care, just as long as he's true to his words about winning the Stanley Cup.

Maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong, but I sure as hell hope he's right. People will argue this one a bit, but the popular idea floating around right now is that he's a very smart man, he has a plan, he knows what he's doing, and he'll surround himself with the right people to get that done. So if that is the case as so many seem to believe, maybe Darcy is in fact, one of those right people.
nfreeman
Holy mackerel. This guy is like a gift from heaven. I don't have too much to add to what's been said up-thread, but I will say this: 1. I agree with the "no more excuses" view and I expect DR's trial period to extend through the end of next season. If the team delivers, I expect him to stay; if not, I expect him to be gone. 2. I expect this team to add some real talent this summer. 3. TP clearly doesn't give a hoot about spending/saving/making money on this team. He has more money than he knows what to do with, and he LOVES the Sabres. Amazing. Sometimes you get what you need. 4. I loved what Ted Black said about sending out a "clarion call" to the rest of the NHL that Buffalo is now the premiere destination for NHL players. They are going to put in state-of-the-art locker rooms, training facilities, travel arrangements, etc. 5. I also like having an experienced and successful hockey man in Ken Sawyer be part of the management team. He's from Montreal, was CFO of the NHL for 14 years, and was CEO of the Penguins when they built their Cup team and their new arena. Now DR has a good hockey man to trade ideas with -- and the owner has a hockey man (and not just a business guy like TG had in LQ) to consult with when he wants a 2nd opinion on hockey matters. 6. This is incredible.

Robviously
As our new owner just said: "Starting today, the Buffalo Sabres' reason for existence will be to win the Stanley Cup," It's sort of a bummer, though, that our team's reason for existence is winning the Stanley Cup...."starting today".....when it's our 40th anniversary. Claude_Verret
it's not hyperbole for me to say that that specific moment fast becomes one of my favorite moments in franchise history. that was special. bills_fan_in_raleigh
One other comment he made on NHL network is if would gte involved in player decisions, he responded he might ask stuff like were is he from and background to see how these factors may play into player wanting to be in buffalo and the type of player the team will be employing in the future. Wouldnt it be great to once again to be known as the hardest working team in the NHL!

No question there are "pretty boys" more worried about where the parties are, and those players wouldn't come here. The great thing about the NHL is that most of the players come from places like Buffalo. PTR
