McJeff215 Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I disagree that the Toronto series has shown us that Toronto can't support a team. It's someone else's team playing in their town. Consider the turn out if the Bluejays played a game a year in Buffalo. If Toronto had their own team, they would be just fine.

Eleven Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Any idea how much the Bills "pay" in rent each year? Who pays for all the traffic control outside of the stadium? Does Erie County get any of the parking revenue? Is this $2.8 million taken out of the welfare check the Bills already receive or is it in addition to? Shouldn't any payments to the Bills be put to a County wide referendum, every year? I don't know what the rent is. I assume that it isn't very high. It's the cost of wanting an NFL team in the community. If you don't want one (seems like you don't), then you aren't going to agree with the subsidies. By the way, what else goes up for a county-wide referendum annually? Nothing. This is not different. I disagree that the Toronto series has shown us that Toronto can't support a team. Your Russian slogan betrays you, you commie. I would trade the Bills for the Blue Jays. How do we make this happen? Are you kidding? You think you like to bitch now? Wait until your team cannot POSSIBLY make the playoffs because the best it ever will be able to do is third in its division (and that's only if Tampa decides to suck), in a league with one wild card spot. You are a glutton for punishment if you want the BJs here.

notwoz Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I would trade the Bills for the Blue Jays. How do we make this happen? The only way you could make anything like that happen is to find someone with more money than god. Rogers Communications owns the Blue Jays and the ball park. Ted Rogers also signed the agreement to have the Bills play in Toronto. But Ted Rogers is dead, and control of Rogers Communications passed to the Rogers Control Trust. Who knows if anyone in control of the trust give's a rat's a** about the Bills. So you'd have to find someone with enough money to buy the Jays, reimburse Rogers for the lost revenue of not having the Jays as play there and move the team to Buffalo. And then find someone willing to privately bankroll the construction of a new baseball stadium (the Bisons' stadium needs to double it's seating to meet MLB requirements).

If I had Terry Pegula money I would buy a Major League team and move it to Buffalo and play at Pilot Field just as it is and not even raise the ticket prices. Dollar beers and hot-dogs. Fans with a an actual team logo tattoo get a free season ticket for one year. Every Friday would be Free Car Night. Fans could pay $50 to park their car right behind the center field fence. If a home run ball shatters your windshield you get a brand new car. As you can see I have spent time thinking of this.

The Bisons' stadium (Coca-Cola Field, Pilot Field, Dunn Tire Stadium, NorthAmeriCare Park and whatever other names it has held) was designed to do just that. They can add an upper deck over the existing mezzanine and hit nearly 40,000 in capacity if they went MLB. Personally I would be completely against the MLB coming to Buffalo. Living in one of MLB's Little Sisters of the Poor cities, it absolutely sucks being out of the playoff race before spring training starts. It's the same way for many cities in MLB. Probably half the league is eliminated from playoff contention each year by Opening Day. Sure, teams can catch lightning in a bottle and make a run, but they can't afford to sustain it. At least with the minors it's fun, affordable entertainment.

Bmwolf21 Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Realistically, are the Bills in any different situation? I know your answer, but yes. The TV contracts alone allow the Bills to at least have a somewhat even financial footing with the other 31 teams in the league. The Bills simply can't get out of their own way. Or more accurately, get their 92-year-old owner to get the hell out of the way and let the football people do their jobs.
