LabattBlue Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Quinn is a joke, but it is a move showing class by Pegula...After the deal is finalized, then there may be some bloodletting... What was a class move by Pegula? Acknowledging Quinn and DiPofi? I'd say it was less than 50/50 that he had anything to do with it.
thesportsbuff Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Ah, I didn't see it was deflected. I just caught a glimpse of it and it looked like whoever shot it scored.
donteatyellowsnow Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 “It’s tough to win when you’re scoring one (goal),” Miller said. “You have to be willing to find a way to score some dirty goals and get some pucks to the net.” I missed the game today, first one of the season I didn't watch, but the game winner he gave up looked weak. If Miller really said that, I can't help but wonder if the rest of the team has somewhat quit on him. When will he learn to keep his mouth shut. I sure as hell wouldn't like him if he was my teammate.
X. Benedict Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 If Miller really said that, I can't help but wonder if the rest of the team has somewhat quit on him. When will he learn to keep his mouth shut. I sure as hell wouldn't like him if he was my teammate. I think you imagine the team disagrees with what he said. Just my opinion, but I don't think players in general pay much mind to what's said to reporters from their coach or teammates.
Eleven Posted February 20, 2011 Author Report Posted February 20, 2011 My observations without reading every post above: (1) I got to meet biodork and Mr. biodork. That was really cool; both are good folks. Hope they have safe travels back to MIddle Penna. (2) I am Drew Stafford's biggest critic, or at least I aspire to be. But wow, he played a really good two-way game today. For once, when I played the "just watch Drew" game, he was busy almost all of the time. I don't know if his recent scoring has led to more confidence without the puck, or if he's just being a contract-year guy, but he really was solid today. He was on a player in his own zone almost all of the time; he eliminated players in teammates' ways, I mean, the boy played a full game. Maybe the boy is becoming a man. (I HOPE it's not a contract year thing. I still am somewhat skeptical.) (3) The ice was tilted today. I know, we don't like to bitch about the refs. But Ovie got away with at least three blatant holds, and what was interference for one team wasn't interference for the other. It really was pretty bad. In a one-goal game, that was the difference, and frankly, I'm not afraid to say that today. That was bullsh*t. (4) I know a lot of people are on Niedermayer for his uselessness. At least he's part of a shut-down line. You want useless? Look more locally (but that's not popular, right?) at Kaleta. After the refs had several conversations with him in the first period, he was hardly even out there in the second and third. (Even when the score was tied.) I think it's cool to have an Angola kid on the team, but not at the expense of players who might contribute. (5) Loud during the second-half of the first, and then mostly quiet today. Of course, about 40% of the crowd was under the age of eight. Who the F decided to move this game to 1230? Geez. I kept expecting Sailor Jack and Bingo to skate out there. (6) Miller was awesome. 31 saves through two is awesome. (7) Watching the Blackhawks and their new-found fans celebrate right now. Bunch of fakers.

Just my opinion, but I don't think players in general pay much mind to what's said to reporters from their coach or teammates. I don't think the point is whether his teammates agree or not. Just -- why the hell is he continually holding court about areas of the game that have nothing do with him? He's not the captain, nor the coach. You know what else is starting to bug me? Miller pounding his stick on the ice to pressure Lindy to pull the goaltender. It's not Miller's call. He's turning into a very annoying character.

Kind of like 05-07 around here eh? Fan bases wax and wane. Certainly there have been periods in Sabres history where the on-ice product hurt attendance and enthusiasm. Nowadays, like the Bills, there seems to be no correlation between product and attendance, which is too bad. Probably the only thing that would have gotten OSP's attention would have been half-full houses. Glad you met some Spacers.

If this team had a actual Capatin Miller would be driving home with a shiner. He truly needs to just shut-up or have a teammate do it for him. The number of dumb lazy penalties this team took today was embarrassing. I wonder how many players sitting on that bench were hoping to be moved this week. How many are thinking "I hope I'm not on Pegula's list."

I just don't see the need to try and tare down other fan bases. Someone tried to the other night during the Blues game. I just don't get it.
Weave Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 (4) I know a lot of people are on Niedermayer for his uselessness. I have been very tempted to bring this up but haven't because I figured a flame war would start soon after. Kaleta is way more popular than Kennedy was but he just doesn't bring much to the game if he isn't being an effective uber-pest. When he is neutralized as a pain-in-the-ass he is nearly worthless. I am hoping that Foligno makes Kaleta irrelevant next season and we can trade him for another resource. It's not that I don't like him, I admire his pluck, but he just doesn't look to me like the type of player a Stanley Cup contender can afford to have on the roster.
X. Benedict Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 I don't think the point is whether his teammates agree or not. Now I'm really puzzled. Why do you think he was signaling Lindy (that doesn't make any sense), and not signaling for the umbrella so he could move?
X. Benedict Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Anyway, three dud games. No presence up the middle from this team at all. Playing winning center-less hockey for a while worked. I think the league has caught on. I don't know how it'll end, but I'm leaning towards blow it up.
LabattBlue Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 If this team had a actual Capatin Miller would be driving home with a shiner. He truly needs to just shut-up or have a teammate do it for him. I agree. How many of his teammates have thrown him under the bus during one of his numerous poor outings this season? I would guess NONE.
Stoner Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Now I'm really puzzled. Why do you think he was signaling Lindy (that doesn't make any sense), and not signaling for the umbrella so he could move? IIRC this was quite a while (20 seconds?) before he went to the bench. He didn't go to the bench until the Sabres shot the puck in. I took the slapping as an attempt to get the bench's attention. So did the play by play guy. You could very well be right. You usually are. What do you mean by umbrella? Calling for a formation that would allow him to escape to the bench?
CallawaySabres Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Honestly, I'll be satisfied with an 8th place finish even if it means a first round blowout. It will at least make the rest of the season somewhat exciting and then everyone can dream about the off-season. Obviously, this is the $$ I pay talking so let's make it count you Marys......
LabattBlue Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 One other thing... Nice to see Mr. Faceoff get schooled. I think he took 3 offensive zone faceoffs in the last minute or so, didn't win any of them cleanly and clearly lost the last one with 4 seconds to go. So when you can't rely on him for his ONE skill, his 2+ mil salary looks bad even for his biggest supporters.

The Umbrella is generally three across the blueline, I don't remember exactly, but I think Myers was pinching, which was a mistake, so Miller couldn't leave. I think Ruff let Myers know.

darksabre Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 I agree with the assessments of Kaleta. He's great when he gives the team a spark, but being oft injured and constantly in and out of the lineup, he doesn't bring anything right now. He should be on the bench and Byron should be in full time.
DFITZ1 Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 If Miller really said that, I can't help but wonder if the rest of the team has somewhat quit on him. When will he learn to keep his mouth shut. I sure as hell wouldn't like him if he was my teammate. Quit on him? If they quit on Miller, then they quit on themselves and the fans. Miller's been blasted when he has a bad game, AND blasted when he has a good game (yes, 2 goals allowed is a good game). No wonder he's pissed.
LGR4GM Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 so I am gonna kinda defend miller. He is playing alot better (37 saves) and I think he says these things because he truly is a competitor and wants to be better. When he loses and gets angry I am happy that he gives a rats @ss. This team is so weak down the center its laughable. Hecht, connolly, goose... they are not noticable. At 11:10 of either the first or second period connolly let a guy go right behind him and get a scoring oppurtunity so yea we have center issues and have for what now 4 years? We just keep draftin the 5'7" guy with a big heart instead of the 6'2" center with a big body to just cut into the slot. Watch gerbe or ennis try to cut it. If they arent faster then they just get forced out. We need a center for them who can just go right through a guy and I dont think we have that guy in portland either. Miller allowed 5 goals in 3 games and played very well. The offense had 3 goals in 5 games and played like that stuff you find at the bottom of a urinal. Tuesday can not get here soon enough and if Pegula doesnt fire the whole FO and coaches hes stupid. Why is gerbe playing on a line with lets see umm no one. He had 3 shots and barely played. This team makes no sense and are disgusting to watch. FIRE REGIER NOW!!! and Fire Ruff if he cant coach better. :wallbash:
