LET"S GO BUFFALO Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Alright I am sorry to waste a post about this but I need some help from fans across the state. I currently reside in Albany, NY and due to circumstances beyond my control I will be traveling across the state to my hometown of Williamsville, NY. Here is what I need... I am leaving tonight round 530 pm and puck drop is at 7:30pm. At that time I will be closing in on Syracuse. I was wondering does anyone know radio stations in the areas of Utica, Syracuse, and Rochester in which I can listen to the game. The last thing I need to be doing is searching for a station when the Sabres make their second attempt at a Playoff spot tonight. Thank you all. PleskowPlayer
shrader Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Good luck with the whole radio thing. It's been bugging me so I have to ask. Is your username just a typo or is there some inside joke there?
Buzz Killington Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 96.5 usually works around Rochester area. Least for me. GL to ya.
LET"S GO BUFFALO Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 The LET"s Go BUFFALO-- yeah thats a typo, I don't know how to fix it, I thought it was going to be like something in my profile I wanted my username to be the PleskowPlayer I put at the end of my posts. Being a sabres fan has semi- retarted me.
LET"S GO BUFFALO Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 Thank you rochester people
carpandean Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 As JDragon2 said, 96.5 FM has probably the best game coverage out of Rochester. 950 AM is mostly the Rochester re-broadcast of 550 AM out of Buffalo and I find it drops off quickly, especially at night (not sure why that is, but after dark, there's an area between Buffalo and Rochester where neither 550 nor 950 quite come in (lots of static and mix signals with another station.) 96.5 FM seems to cover a lot further out; might even get close to Syracuse. I'd try that unless somebody has a Syracuse station.

They should put the games on 1520. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear-channel_station

There is also one other app for streaming radio to smartphones, but can't remember the name. If you have unlimited data and a smart phone, you could also log onto WGR and use their "listen live" feature

If you have unlimited data and a smart phone, you could also log onto WGR and use their "listen live" feature I think it's called TuneIn Radio -- they have it (and the WGR550) app available for both the iPhone/iPod Touch and for Android-based smartphones. In my experience the Droid version of WGR550 is much less buggy than the original Apple one, which seems to freeze up and crash a lot.

It finally came to me - Flycast.
beerme1 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Can I be the smart ass one that says you should leave earlier?
BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 I've had the same problem before, and I don't think you can pick the game up until you around Rochester. Sabres Radio Network
MattPie Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Just as a head up to everyone that hasn't heard, WGR now has an Android apps for phones (and I suppose tablets). It is *WAY* more stable than Flycast for streaming live radio. Available in the Android Market. Now they just need to put a quit button on it, although "Advanced Task Killer" does it if needed.
Iron Crotch Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 It won't help you on your trip to Williamsville (my home town too) but I am a big fan of NHL talk radio on SiriusXM (http://www.siriusxm.com/nhlhomeice) You not only get all the game broadcasts from around the league, but get hockey talk radio during the day. Depends on your budget, of course.

I tried that one and it itself was a drain on the battery... have had much better luck with the combo of Juice Defender and Visual Task Switcher, although the latter takes some getting used to.
