There's just no place on the Sabres for a 50 goal scorer.

Yikes, they've been winning without Brodeur as well, who may start tonight.

We'll see if he scores 50 goals altogether between 2015-2025.

Are we supposed to envy the moves the Devils have made now?

From this point forward, that is going to be my response whenever Kovy's name is mentioned. The number of people that said he had no place on the Sabres is mind blowing. I am envious and we'll see where each team ends up at the end of the year.

I do know one thing, I'd rather see a GM do SOMETHING and fail, then try again, than see a GM do nothing and fail, then do nothing again.

If you think you can build a team around Kovulchuck, then Oduya, Bergfor, Cormier, a 1st round pick, $10O million, a 15 year contract, and tremendous salary cap problems aren't too much to pay.

But it is not just whining to think it a bad deal. I still do.

I'm going to reserve judgment.

If the Devils picked up Tim Kennedy (even at a million a year), they would get more production out of him and Kovy, for less money, than Vanek and Stafford. I guess the Sabres are screwed too then.

I won't even get into the whole Kennedy at $1 mil a year over Nieds at $1.25 mil a year debate that this train of thought brings up.

Kovalchuk makes a little less than seven million a year. What's the big deal? So they suffered some cap consequences in the short term. If he's the player in coming seasons he's been in recent weeks, no one will remember, or care.

If it was a good trade for the Devils the logic hasn't caught up with the team.

Though they are playing much much better lately, I think it is their defense more than the forwards that have come around.

According to Capgeek.com Kovi's cap hit is less than Vaneks. Kovi at $6.6 mil and Vanek at $7.1 mil.

Seriously? Kovi is now tied for second with 7 GW goals and is 7-4-11 +9 over his the Devils last 10 games. If you want to hate the player because the Sabres GM doesn't have the sack to make a deal like, then OK. At least give the player his due when he deserves it.

Kovy's like the gift that keeps on giving. We only have 14 more years to talk about his contributions to the Devils.

I think Atlanta, anyway, has been a more complete team without him, and much more fun to watch. The last 3 weeks being the exception.

You finally get it. Kovi is a talented player capable of putting up 50 goals and he is now at a fixed cost. At less than $7 mill a year Kovi is a bargain. 14 Years? He won't see the end of the contract. Which is why the NHL gave the Devils such a hard time.

He's had a great month. I'll give him that. Most of the year he's been worse than my expectations.

He could have a terrific year next year. But I don't see the Devils getting much closer, though their defense has jelled of late. And Tallinder has looked like a stud.

(Shouldn't this be the Tallinder thread? )

Tallinder is a +12 and has certainly been a catalyst for the Devils recent surge.

Kovi got off to a horrible start. That is why I stressed earlier in the year he didn't just a one year deal. When you pick up a Kovi type player you are making a long term investment.
