Ennis lost the puck countless times in the zone tonight. Countless. Fans like him because he is flashy, but if he wore number 61 tonight instead of 63, people would want him burned at the stake.

Im pretty sure fans like him because he puts the puck into the net. Granted he doesnt take many shots, but when he does at least they count for something. Did we forget about last night's game???

I think you are missing his point about the way Max was treated here his last couple of seasons. And of course he forgot about last night's game, he is a Sabres fan.

His shooting percentage is tied for 10th on the team. I don't get where you're going with that one. I like Ennis, I think he's going to be a good player, but sometimes people just don't make sense. He looks like a carbon copy of Max Afinogenov in the offense zone on some nights and really not too much is said about it from fans. When Connolly or Pominville or Miller make a mistake though, it's lights out. People don't miss a beat. It just doesn't make sense.

ENNIS with KALETA and #20, way to use a play maker LINDY.

Awful slashing call on gerbe. Good call on goose though. Why isn't Byron in this game, he brings more.

Kaleta obviously is still struggling to control the puck not that he was gretzky to begin with so other than banging bodies he has nothing over Byron and I agree Byron should have played.

The other curious thing is that while Lindy's breaking up his lines in Montreal worked to counter Jacques who had the last change in Montreal, tonight he didn't need to get crazy with his line combos because he gets last change. Maybe a little too zealous there

We just don't have it tonight.

And in Timmy's defense, there were still two guys back (i.e. it was a 1-on-2)... awful, just awful...

What was awful is we did not play the body/man tonight. On the SH goal, Leo should have laid him out instead of the stick checking game they brought tonight. The FO's also sucked tonight and I was surprised to see Timmy taking the offensive zone faceoff to start the powerplay when we really needed a goal. Does he ever win a faceoff?

They had a chance to go over .500 on the home W-L record tonight guess they decided to remind us they still need some players.

Paging Mr Pegula, paging Mr Pegula, please pick up the white courtesy phone and start giving this FO office some direction before the trade deadline please.

Just got back from the game and WOW, was that boring..I mean BORING. The Sabres never wanted any part of that game and the passing was just awful. Give it to the Leafs, they outplayed them all game long. Hey, Buffalo got a great win last night and tonight was just bad from top to bottom. Canes lost and the next 5 are at home so whatever....

Oh yea, Niedermayer and Kaleta need to sit. One is awful and one is not healthy...

lol miller played pretty good tonight but wow is it really necessary to come 25 feet out of the net when a guy is coming 1-on-2 shorthanded against two defensemen? Yeah the defensemen totally botched it but wtf was he thinking?? Reminds me of the shorty Satan scored on us the playoffs last year.

Yep. :(

Would have been a completely different game if Ennis scored instead of hitting the post in the opening minutes. Not that I'm blaming him for the lose because they had plenty of chances to win this game.

Would have been a completely different game if Connolly hadn't given the puck away about 3 times on that powerplay and directly led to the shorty that killed our chances of coming back.

That depends on whether or not their player would've scored if he didn't. Miller was trying to poke check but got th epuck slid under his pads. Probably shouldn't have come out, but the forwards have to score more than one goal. They squandered chances, and take too long to shoot. Blame this loss on the forwards.

Ok for one you have no idea where I stand when it comes to the Sabres. I was a fan of Afinogenov. I am a fan of Ennis. I am a fan of Miller and Pom. What I am not a fan of, is players that are not productive getting more ice time than players who are. Last 30 seconds of the game, empty net and Sekera is on the ice and Ennis sits? Finally with about 12 seconds left Ennis is in. Come on, be serious. Also I am also not a fan of people belittling other people's opinions because they do not match their own. I don't "make sense"...why? because you cant comprehend what I'm saying or because you're comparing an young ACTIVE member of the Sabres to a 31 year old RWer who doesn't even play in the NHL anymore? 61 and 63, two different numbers and two very different players IMO.

How many shootouts has Ennis saved our behinds in? I'm pretty sure two, but if I'm wrong correct me. I know for a fact it's not less than two. I'm not a bandwagon fan. I've supported the Sabres and Bills since I was young. So please don't accuse me of "not making sense".

Not to mention that Connelly and Sekera have made HUGE mistakes this season that have lead to game winning goals for the opposing team. Sekera's sloppy blind passed or losing the puck in the neutral zone, leading to a break away. And great example of tonight's game winning goal for the leafs, short handed mind you. Who caused that again?

I was about to make a post in the second intermission that Connolly had quietly put together a string of 5 or 6 pretty good games in a row... then he did that.

Good question. It's more fun to blame Connolly.

I mean, I understand trying to make a play, but there's no reason to treat that situation any different than a shootout opportunity. This has been Miller's trademark this year: overcommitting to a play. He needs to relax and wait for that shot instead of whatever abomination of a pokecheck he was attempting. I think he needs another night in the luxury suite.

Where do I start? First, I don't know what you're getting all bent out of shape about. I wasn't talking about only you. But I stand by my statement that many fans don't make sense. You can't really ignore all the times that Ennis goes into the zone and tries to stick-handle through a couple of defensemen only to lose the puck. I obviously don't have numbers on it, but I would say that he is most guilty of that on this team. Sure, he's young and hopefully it will get better, but that doesn't change the point. He still coughs up the puck by trying to do too much.

For the shootout part, I'm not sure where that came up in my post. I didn't mention the shootout. Vanek hasn't missed in the shootout, but that doesn't have anything to do with his regular play during the game.

Finally, there is no Connelly on the Sabres.

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't think having auto-correction enabled would devalue my point. But in my defense, there is no Sabre by the name of Afinogenov...yet and still...

There was. And he was ripped apart by the fans (not necessarily you) for his play at the end of his career in Buffalo. That play looked awfully similar to Ennis on many nights this season. That's my point.

To be fair to Connolly in the last few games he has blocked shots and generally looked like he cares but I can't take the give aways at crucial times of a game anymore. This has been an on going problem with him all year. He brings down the powerplay and takes what little advantage we have and hands it right back . When he was out of the line up the powerplay was cooking. Back in, not so much.

The reason you're seeing that a lot from Ennis is 1.) his size and agility, and 2.) That style of play often sets up beautiful goals in the AHL. Problem is, it takes all of these type of players a season or two to realize the percentages of it working are much lower in the NHL. I think he needs to use that stick handling to personally get to the net more than trying to set up a play like he has been the past month.

Posted

Yeah but the mics suddenly started working after the Sabres killed that two-man. Weird.

Not really. It may have been a bit louder for an instant, but I know from being in that building during many Leaves games that the Leaves fans--I'm not even talking about ours here--are a LOT louder in person than what came through your TV.

they score 1 and get ripped, they score 6 and get ripped. can the goalie ever do no wrong?

everyone wants to run connolly out of town for failing consistantly at his job yet everyone makes excuses for miller for failing at his job

i just don't get it.

The key is in your second sentence. Connolly fails consistently. Miller has bad games sometimes. (And I think Miller is not 100% physically, but this is based upon second degree hearsay.)

Oh, is that it? Is that why HSBC is one of the quietest arenas in the league? So sick of people jumping on and off the band wagon. Get over Wide Right, and In the Crease. People expect them to win every game, but it time to realize that's not possible. This is a good team that is playing well. They won't just make the playoffs, but will probably catch the Rangers and take the 6th spot. They aren't going to win the cup this year, but may end up playing the Caps or Lighting and win a round in the tournament. And they are only going to get better the next three seasons.

Weren't people saying that three seasons ago? Fans are sick of waiting for that next three or five year plan.

Let's see whether this team is now mature and professional enough not to have a letdown tonight. This game -- coming back home after a huge road win to face a crappy team that they "should" beat -- is one in which the Sabres have delivered a mediocre-to-poor performance roughly 90% of the time since Drury left.

I don't know if anyone else commented on this. I don't have time to read through the entire thread, but you hit this one right on the head. It was almost scripted.
