Onceagain Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 The answer to all this Enroth discussion - whether he should stay up or down - is quite simple. After tomorrow the sabres have 26 games remaining with 8 back to backs. So, if Enroth plays ONLY the back to backs that would give him 8 more starts which is more than 1/3 of the remaining games, plenty of action IMO. You can even throw in an extra start or two on a night like tonight. I dont think Lindy or Darcy is that stupid to not equip the sabres with a capable backup and all along planned to call up Enroth this time of the year considering how back-loaded the sabres schedule is with back to backs. BTW - Can we please call him ENRON? As he steals games from opponents! :clapping:

thesportsbuff Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 I think out of respect for Lalime they will let him finish his career as a back-up goalie, not the third string guy that got cut. Out of respect for Enroth, he will be called up to start 4 or 5 more games this year. But out of respect for trying to make the playoffs, Miller is still going to start 90% of the remaining games. No way Enroth plays 8+.

SwampD Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 The Sabres have earned 72% of the points available in the last 18 games Ryan Miller has started for them (12-4-2). Is there really a problem? If a team earned 72% of the points available over the cours of a season they would have 118. I would take that. Miller had a bad game on Sunday. It happens. Again, is there really a problem?

Robviously Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 BTW - Can we please call him ENRON? Playing Miller every single game isn't doing him any favors and it's not doing the team any favors either. Enough already.
JJFIVEOH Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 I really can't understand the disdain for Lalime. Dating back to last year, with the exception of the TB game where the Sabres scored 7 goals, they have combined for 21 goals in the last 13 games he played. Dating back to March of last year through today his save % is .908. Guess what Miller's save % is. Sounds to me like the blame needs to be placed elsewhere.

Sorry but when a team is scratching and clawing just to puncture the playoff bubble, you can't afford to make any decisions "out of respect" for any player. There's no jeopardizing the playoff push, it basically just means they're going to keep doing what they have been. Miller is going to start and Lalime will be the "back up," but he won't get any starts. He isn't going to play any games and Enroth is going to be called up for 3 to 5 scheduled starts, tops. He'll continue to play in Portland aside form those scheduled starts. If you think management suddenly had some sort of epiphany and is going to start over utilizing the back-up in the last 25 games of the season, you're mistaken.

TheMatrix31 Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 They sent him down... SabresDotCom Buffalo Sabres The Sabres have returned goaltender Jhonas Enroth to Portland (AHL). #sabres 4 minutes ago ....and I think it's more "disrespectful" for Lalime to be the token backup if they're gonna call Enroth up for scheduled starts.
Eleven Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 This may be to free up a roster spot or something; I still expect to see him play again soon. Hopefully Friday.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 I think they need to seriously consider maybe playing him and ryan 50 - 50 for next few weeks especially in that 7 game road journey ahead. Last night watching Number 1 brought back memories of Donny Edwards and Roger the Dodger.

More "disrespectful" than having your captain sit in the press box for weeks on end(not that I disagree with that).

They go into a defensive shell and try to do his job for him when they should attack and score.

They signed him out of respect for him, not because he has any use. I think this assumption on that basis is a little premature lol. ;-)

I think this assumption on that basis is a little premature lol. ;-) That's a smart way to use what little space you have (internal cap space). Just another example of Reigers ineptitude. <_<
McJeff215 Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 My $10 says they wanted to get another look at ETHRON before they ship Lalime out.

Dating back to March of last year through today his save % is .908. Guess what Miller's save % is. Sounds to me like the blame needs to be placed elsewhere. Here is the problem with your logic. Lalime has a better sv% because he never plays and Miller has played every game. If Lalime was playing say 15 starts a season his sv% would in all likelihood be lower. The fact is Lalime in goal makes the whole team act differently for unknown reasons. Enroth in goal seems not to have the same effect. Miller has had a horrendous year but how many shots have been deflected off opponents or off his own defense? I am not implying miller is not at fault but This could simply be a bad year and the fact he knows Lalime can not relieve him may be contributing to that. Why Lalime is not put on waivers or even a healthy scratch is unclear. It is also very unclear as to why Craig Rivet has not been either allowed to play to attract trade offers, or traded for anything (at this point a 5th round pick would be do). He takes up 3.5 million in cap space and doesn't play. If he was not on the team we could keep Enroth up (all though it may do more good having him play in portland) and we could have signed or traded for a player like Wisniewski (went for 3+5th round pick) who could have added depth to a extremely young and unproven defense group (other than Leopold and perhaps Montador we have rookies or guys with only a year or two). All in all the way this team is coached and managed does not make a lot of financial or practical sense.
dscrapj Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Lalime is with the team because he was affordable($350,000 pay cut) and he and Miller have a good relationship. I don't think that can be discounted. I'd be willing to bet the team solicited Miller's opinion while they were making this decision during the offseason. I also feel that if he had the opportunity to play more regularly his numbers and game would improve. That being said, points are precious and if Enroth is more capable of winning games when Miller rests then play him. There is no time for worrying about bruised egos.
buftex Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 I think they need to seriously consider maybe playing him and ryan 50 - 50 for next few weeks especially in that 7 game road journey ahead. Last night watching Number 1 brought back memories of Donny Edwards and Roger the Dodger. Funny, I was thinking he reminded me a bit of Bob Sauve. I kind of miss those days. Edwards was the night in night out guy, unless Sauve came in and was particularly hot in a releif start. Sauve could be the best goaltender in the league for a week or two...
