Stoner Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 The Sabres are blocking a lot more shots this season. 13.5 a game to 12.
SabresFan526 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 I'd like to see the blogger who makes more than Jerry does. There might be a few on a national level. You'd have to have an enormous number of hits. Jerry is a gifted writer and pot-stirrer. We need 20 Jerrys covering Buffalo sports. --Jerry's Nana I guarantee that Jim Kelley used to make more than Sullivan after he left The Buffalo News. I can guarantee guys like Pierre Lebrun, Scott Burnside, Greg Wyshinski over at Yahoo!, and perhaps even Spektor make more money than Jerry Sullivan. I bet Dave Pagnotta over at the fourth period makes more than Jim Kelley. These guys are by and large just bloggers that happen to work at the national level. Dave Pagnotta, especially, makes his entire living just off the fourth period, so I'm pretty sure he's doing well, and he makes enough money to hire high quality writers and analysts such as Todd Harvey and other former players. They seem to be doing really well over at the fourth period from what I can tell.
nucci Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Miller...Collapse? I wish more players would "collapse" like him. The reason the forward play hasn't collapsed as much is because it couldn't fall any further. The problem this season is scoring goals, not being scored upon. Back to the OP, I can't believe so much attention was directed at Millers play on Sunday, when Hecht and Grier have gotten hall passes for major screw ups (i.e. putting your team on a > 1 minute 5 on 3 penalty kill is a clutch mistake). I still say Miller would've been right to kick Hecht in the rear right front of the crowd for taking that penalty. The defensive play of the entire team was poor but you can't argue that Miller had a bad game. There is more attention to his play just like there is more attention to a QB or a Starting pitcher.

Eleven Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 I heard that as well. I think his name is Jeremy White? He made Sullivan look like an absolute idiot. It was fairly clear after that interview that Sullivan knows nothing about the NHL and does not know anything about what's going on across the NHL or the league. In that respect, I'll give Bucky Gleason some credit as he is very knowledgeable about the NHL as a whole. Sullivan knows nothing about the rest of the league and it became very apparent during that interview. Also, given how useless Jerry Sullivan is, I'm really interested in knowing, what's the difference between him and a blogger? The reality is since no one actually buys and reads a newspaper, his salary is really coming from the google ad words on The Buffalo News Website (I'm sure the TBN loses tons of money because of poor circulation). Similarly, a blogger in this day and age can do the same thing and make as much money or more than Sullivan does if his/her website gets more hits. Ultimately, what makes Jerry Sullivan more qualified than say Garth from Hockeybuzz? As far as I can tell, they are both equally useless, but I think Garth actually gets more site hits than Sullivan does making Eklund and his fictitious writing staff a lot of money. By the way, the editing and writing over at the Buffalo News has really become putrid. These guys go to press with so many spelling, grammatical, and punctuation mistakes it's incredible. You would expect more from guys who actually have journalism degrees oh and use the Microsoft Word Spell Check and Grammar Check, but apparently not. Man, someone should go off on TBN because boy their quality of writing has really gone down hill and they really are not above the criticism either. It's woeful. It is Jeremy White and he eviscerates Sullivan frequently. Actually, I wonder why Sullivan still goes on that show at all.
shrader Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 It is Jeremy White and he eviscerates Sullivan frequently. Actually, I wonder why Sullivan still goes on that show at all. It's not like he has many other options out there for air time.
JJFIVEOH Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 I believe we picked up two... Sorry, you're right. It was late, I wasn't thinking. Still doesn't negate my point.;)
Eleven Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 It's not like he has many other options out there for air time. True, but Schopp and Bulldog seem to kowtow to him a little bit.
SabresFan526 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 That's a pretty safe bet. RIP JK Oops, my mistake. I meant to say Jerry Sullivan. My bad. See, Ryan Miller, that's how you do it. Accept blame and move forward, that simple.

Taro T Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 He embodies the triumph of rankle over analysis. When did he start at the Snooze? I know he's been there since '89; and probably since ~'84. Maybe that could be the tagline he uses to end his columns: "Trumping analysis with rankle for over (nearly?) 1/4 of a century."
deluca67 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 It is Jeremy White and he eviscerates Sullivan frequently. Actually, I wonder why Sullivan still goes on that show at all. Who knew the definition of "eviscerates" was to turn off a microphone and scream incoherently? You learn something every day. I think I figured out why the incident really bugs people like it does. Where were Miller's teammates? Jerry Sullivan was right there to defend his teammate. Just like when he gets run in the crease, Miller is left there alone.
deluca67 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Butler, Weber, Sekera, Myers --- -- -what are we talking here, 200 games of NHL experience total? Leopold and Morrison the journeyman vets. That's not a shut down D in front of him. They can compete for sure, it just isn't a shut-down D. And it is going to show in the numbers. If anything I think Myers development trajectory (not Miller's aptitude) was optimistic. Lydman and Tallinder were always underrated here, in my mind. Hasek faced 40 shots almost on a nightly basis. Miller is just not on that Hasek level, not many have been. I'll go as far to say Miller isn't even on the Barasso level. He may be somewhere between Sauve and Edwards when it comes to all-time Sabres goaltenders.

Barasso was a competitor, but Miller is a much better goaltender/Athlete than Barasso ever was.

DFITZ1 Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Miller is built is like a 13 year old girl. That is the stupidest comment I've seen today. If the Sabres dump Miller they will be the laughingstock of the league. Getting Enroth teamed with Miller is the smart way to go. Miller is far from washed up. Worn from heavy duty, perhaps, but not washed up.

Just like when he gets run in the crease, Miller is left there alone. Read more definitions. Just because I screwed one up on Saturday (I did), doesn't mean that I don't know a word or two. "Removes the vital part of," White does that to Sully frequently. Frankly, it's probably not that hard. Sully over-extends, and then White pokes holes in his "theory." It's kind of like here, only on radio.

Getting Enroth teamed with Miller is the smart way to go. Miller is far from washed up. Worn from heavy duty, perhaps, but not washed up. No one said he is "washed-up." He is overrated and expendable. He is a really good goalie in a league that has a lot of really good goalies, just no great or elite goalies. At $6 mil a season it would be in the Sabres best interest to restructure their team and put that $6 mil into a star forward.

He is hardly expendable at this point. Also, a star forward isn't enough. You need at least two. Restructuring is going to happen by unloading the deadweight at forward (Connelly, Hecht,...), not a solid goaltender. BTW - do you know Miller had a winning record during his 31 game streak?
