Lanny Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 He had a bad game, he knew it. Sully got him going after Miller said that Vogl writes his stories in the second period. Sully says "I'm sorry I wasn't here to talk to you after any of the other 14 games this season which you allowed four or more goals." Sully or Vogl expected Miller to be jovial after that? I too would tell 'em to f-off. Vogl wants to write a story about how much Ryan's played, how he's tired, and is looking for sound bites from Miller. Miller wasn't playing his game. Besides, Enroth just got called up. Will meet the team in Montreal. Where did you read this? I can't find anything on it, did Byron get sent down?
Two or less Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Where did you read this? I can't find anything on it, did Byron get sent down? Brad Riter is reporting it as well. Will they go with Enroth in goal or Lalime and Enroth as backup?
spndnchz Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Brad Riter is reporting it as well. Will they go with Enroth in goal or Lalime and Enroth as backup? LaLime starts, Enroth as backup and Miller goes to Cali for a "conditioning stint". lol
darksabre Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Oh, NOW they call up Enroth. Not like we couldn't have done that BEFORE we played the Islanders. Who the heck is running this team? Yeesh.
Stoner Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Is that really what happened? If it is, is there any wonder why Miller was mad? I would have punched Sully. But the context of it, as recounted by Brad Riter, is that Miller said something to the effect to Jerry that he never shows his face around the team. There's no audio of this that I've heard.

FWIW here is a link to audio Vogel decided to publish to spin his side of the storee.. JV audiolink

dumb_dumb88 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Who cares? That's irrelevant. The STORY on Sunday was our $6 million goalie, former veizna winner, Miller allowing 7 goals to a terrible team. Well, obviously I am interested in how they select the interview process, otherwise I wouldn't have posted that I was interested in how the media selection process works. So, I guess I care. But hey, don't let another fans inquisitivness on the subject stand in the way of you dominating the subject matter..... :bag:

There's no audio of this that I've heard. Who cares what the context is? If Jerry rubs that stat in Miller's face to point out how badly he has been playing then I'm actually surprised Ryan didn't slug him. It was a douche move on Sully's part. And isn't it a valis point on Miller's part anyway? He covers the Sabres yet has missed one quarter of the games?
Eleven Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Oh, NOW they call up Enroth. Not like we couldn't have done that BEFORE we played the Islanders. Who the heck is running this team? Yeesh. Are you serious?

The eye-opening part of this back-and-forth for me is that Miller has allowed 4 or more in more than 1/4 of the games this year. I knew he was having a down year but I hadn't realized it was that bad.
rickshaw Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Ryan Miller honestly needs to grow a set and get over himself. He's not all that, clearly. 31st in GAA in a 30 team league. 4 or more goals against in 1/4 of his games played. (Would Lalime be just as bad or worse??) He throws his teammates under the bus on many occasion and right now he stinks in goal. His team has been scoring otherwise it would be way worse. If he wants to insult a reporter about how he/she does his job then he should expect it back. He'd get eaten alive if he was playing here in Vancouver. Absolutely torched. The problem is many. He's a good goalie making great goalie money. He's not built to play this many games, I'll stand by that. He's a baby. He whines too much. It reminds me of him crying in his first year and getting sent down after the Isles lit him up 6 bagel. The Isles clearly have his number btw. But this doesn't all fall on Ryan. It's management's fault for not having a capable backup and/or Ruff still living in the Hasek time where he only needed one goalie. Enroth is the future imo, but I wonder if the team will see that. Time will tell. Until then, Miller needs to man up, quit whining and start stopping the puck. His teammates have certainly picked it up, now it's his time to do the same.

I think Miller should have asked Sullivan when was the last time that more than 4 people read one of his columns.
wonderbread Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I think Miller should have asked Sullivan when was the last time that more than 4 people read one of his columns. Does it count if 2 people read it twice?
spndnchz Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Does it count if 2 people read it twice? Yes, unless they're twins.
shrader Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Yes, unless they're twins. Regular twins do count twice, but conjoined twins only count as one.
darksabre Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Are you serious? I don't know, are you going to respond with more than an open ended question?
PotentPowerPlay22 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I think Miller should have asked Sullivan when was the last time that more than 4 people read one of his columns. Keep the focus on Miller. He is hired to stop the puck. Focusing on the reporters is just an unnecessary distraction. Miller has been used too much. It's mental and physical. He needs a break and he needs to accept responsibility for his poor performance. Miller tried to change the focus onto the reporter. This is a mistake. The problem is on the ice - keep the focus there!

Enroth isn't exactly lighting it up in Portland. Here's his stats NHL - 5 games played, 2-2-1; 2.89 GAA; 0.900 Save%; 0 shutouts AHL - 35 games played, 18-14-1; 2.83 GAA; 0.910 Save%; 0 shutouts Link
Stoner Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Mike Harrington has tweeted that Ruff said Miller will not start in Montreal. Apparently Mike got this one wrong.
SwampD Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I don't know from Vogl, but apparently Sully pisses off more than just Miller. Man, does he sound like a whiny beotch.
Stoner Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I don't know from Vogl, but apparently Sully pisses off more than just Miller. Man, does he sound like a whiny beotch. His theme song used to be the theme for "Curb Your Enthusiasm." He is Larry David. Jerry's a treasure. Honestly, if a professional athlete lets Jerry get to them, it says a lot about him. Or them. Him.
X. Benedict Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 There's a really interesting sideplot to the postgame flap that nobody wants to touch — Miller is obviously upset about giving up so many goals and has been in something of a funk all season, but the more interesting thing is Vogl's cowering, despite having the most access (and what should be the greatest connection) to the team. I really think you need to get your hands on an NHL media guide. Access comes at a cost. The beat reporters don't report on what happens on the trainers table, medical room, and don't speculate about un-named injuries. That's the deal.

If Vogl can confirm that Miller is playing with such and such an injury, it should be reported. Vogl works for me, not Darcy. What are the Sabres going to do, throw out the only newspaper in town? There's nothing wrong with Vogl asking the question.
