SwampD Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Somehow I'm not feeling real good about Tuesday nights match up of Miller vs Price  Good, because we probably wont see Price.
Eleven Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Considering how hot Stafford is this season, shouldn't he more than a +2 for the season? You've seen how he plays without the puck, right? Good three goals tonight, though.
BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Somehow I'm not feeling real good about Tuesday nights match up of Miller vs Price  On VS. Habs are going to want to make up for the spanking they took last Tuesday on VS. 6 goals has got to get you 2 points. Wasted chance.
BuffaloFansR_Crazy Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 You've seen how he plays without the puck, right? Good three goals tonight, though. Really? The guy is on fire. Look at the guy "playing" center on his line if you want to know why he is only +2.
thesportsbuff Posted February 13, 2011 Author Report Posted February 13, 2011 Really? The guy is on fire. Look at the guy "playing" center on his line if you want to know why he is only +2. Yes because Connolly has been his center every game this season. He's only a +2 because over 50% of his goals came in four games. The other 50-whatever games.. 1 or less.
CallawaySabres Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 bad bad bad bad loss. Please start Lalime on Tuesday and take the sure points with Miller on Wed. If they don't do that, they risk losing both games and ruin everything they have worked for in the last month....
deluca67 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 If this team is going to make the playoffs, Terry Pegula needs to call Quinn/Regier and tell them to shut Miller down this week. He doesn't play again until next Sunday against the Caps. Give Enroth the three starts, put the pressure on the forwards and D to get the job done. If Miller is this fatigued he is risking serious injury. I doubt Pegula wants to see a $19 mil investment get run into the ground.
deluca67 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 You've seen how he plays without the puck, right? Good three goals tonight, though. Which goes to my point. There are some ready to get him signed. The thought of that contract frightens me.
thesportsbuff Posted February 13, 2011 Author Report Posted February 13, 2011 Seriously, now what? Back to backs against division opponents this week, do they throw in the white flag and forfeit (aka start Lalime) or does Miller play 33 straight??
nucci Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Terrible game by MILLER, but I put the blame on LINDY (nothing new from me), you can't ride a goalie like this, he may feel good mentally, but fatigue sets in, he should of been given a break 3 games ago. I don't go for the "we don't have a good enough back up, LALIME can win, if given some offensive support, then again who knows how rusty he would be after not playing for so long. I'm really tired of seeing this coach making moronic moves that is costing this team success. LINDY must go! :wallbash: Not sure I blame Ruff. If you were coach would you play Lalime?
LabattBlue Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Not sure I blame Ruff. If you were coach would you play Lalime? If you were coach, would you stand by whistling dixie while your GM keeps bringing Lalime back year after year?
thesportsbuff Posted February 13, 2011 Author Report Posted February 13, 2011 Not sure I blame Ruff. If you were coach would you play Lalime? That's the problem though. I don't put this on Lindy for not putting Lalime in, the result probably would have been worse. The problem is this organization has had the same problem of an incapable backup for 3 years now and done NOTHING about it besides EXTEND Lalime. EXTEND HIM!!!! Didn't we trade for Telqvist one year because Lalime couldn't win a game? Then he plays another year and STILL can't win a game... then he gets a contract extension? Sheesh, and you guys spent months bickering over why Tim Connolly is on the team... Patrick Lalime just being on the roster is a bigger travesty than any other contract.
darksabre Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Not sure I blame Ruff. If you were coach would you play Lalime? At some point you have to. Even if we get to the playoffs Miller is going to be useless.
deluca67 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 If you were coach, would you stand by whistling dixie while your GM keeps bringing Lalime back year after year? You think that topic will come up in a meeting with Pegula?
nucci Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 If you were coach, would you stand by whistling dixie while your GM keeps bringing Lalime back year after year? Nope, you're right. Why is Enroth not called up? He has been in the AHL long enough.
fiftyone Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Really? The guy is on fire. Look at the guy "playing" center on his line if you want to know why he is only +2. The guy playing center on his line is defensively responsible. I don't understand your point.
donteatyellowsnow Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Choke artist? Calm down. Miller is a good goaltender but he is playing like he looks tired. Shaky focus, bad movement in the crease, and sloppy goals all point to fatigue. We all know that Miller can play good hockey, but I don't doubt he is tired and likely battling at least one injury if not more. You don't play this many games and don't get a little bit banged up. Miller needs to be rested. Period. Enough with the excuses. Miller has not been good all year, and other than last years aberration has never accomplished anything. All you apologists really need to open your eyes and see him for what he really is, and that's a goalie who just isn't good enough. Time to turn the page and see if the Sabres can win with Enroth because they are not going to win anything with Miller.
SwampD Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Nope, you're right. Why is Enroth not called up? He has been in the AHL long enough. Ethron beat three (at the time) really bad teams earlier this season. If they started him against Montreal he would get lit up and set his development back a bit. I'm just not that upset over this loss. We got 7 of our last 8 points, and lost to a team that matches up well against us this year with an obviously tired Miller. I say play Lalime all three games this week. Take the losses (or maybe catch some lightning). Then play Miller on Sunday against the Caps. Some losses now might be worth some more wins later with a week off. (I'm not sure I really believe that but at least it would be interesting).

I am glad you agree with me that Miller should not play till next Sunday.
rickshaw Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Why can't Miller just stand up and say to Ruff, I need a rest here and there. Seriously, I don't care how competitive one is, he should be a team guy and TELL Ruff to throw Lalime a bone. Seriously, couldn't Lalime have given up 7 today? Probably not I say. Miller needs to go, I'll say it again. Get Enroth up, get a mature backup who can A)Play and B) tutor Miller is no tutor. This loss and last night's Cane comeback could very well be the points that decide who's in and who's not. As for Stafford. The guy is a scorer and I think he finally gets it. I'd sign him.
SwampD Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Couldn't it also work the other way? Enroth comes in and steals a game or two? Enroth has been playing so it is more likely. I am glad you agree with me that Miller should not play till next Sunday. I wouldn't want to risk Enroth's development just because Lalime stinks, not that any backup goalie wouldn't stink playing as little as Lalime does. For the record, I agree with most of what you say, it's just that arguing is more fun.
ParkMeadow Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Couldn't it also work the other way? Enroth comes in and steals a game or two? Enroth has been playing so it is more likely. I am glad you agree with me that Miller should not play till next Sunday. While I agree with the idea of bringing Enroth up to play a game or two, let me remind you all that Miller just had over a week off at the recent All Star break. I'm not so sure that another rest is what he needs. Should be able to pull him and sit his butt down when he plays as poorly as today, and maybe some healthy competition would raise his game. Too bad there is none in sight!
X. Benedict Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 This was a perfect storm of crazy crap: Devorski called about 3 stick fouls that weren't. But that's to be expected, Devorski has his arm up more than extras in a SURE commercial. Gaustad, had one unconsciously bad brain fart. Throwing the puck back. The Isles forwards are really very good. Grabner is the best shooting Austrian not named Vanek. (He's also an RFA, along with Okposo). Jurcida really shouldn't be the guy beating you. The Isles have a really bad defense. The forwards carry that team. They are young and create chances. As far as embarrassing goaltenders, I imagine it is going to happen more and more often. They are going to be playing spoiler for a lot of teams.
SabresFan526 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 This game was pretty simple. You know who's playing extremely well for the Sabres? Drew Stafford. You know who's been playing really poorly? Ryan Miller. The goaltending was absolutely horrendous today. The play in the defensive zone did not help at all as Gaustad passed a puck straight to Grabner, Sekera whiffed and let Grabner get away, and they gave up two power play goals to the woeful Islanders. Having said all of that, an elite goaltender makes big saves at critical moments in the game, and Miller did not do that today and in general was horrible. That first goal he gave up to Grabner looked like a little league goaltender completely biting on a fake and not getting back in time to stop a wraparound. That was an absolutely horrible goal that Miller gave up. The goal by Comeau is one that Miller has got to stop, no excuse for that one either. Miller played absolutely lousy today, and the Sabres still had a chance to win and even got a point out of this game. Overall, Miller just has not been that good this year. At the start of the year, part of the problem was the Sabres gave him no goal support. Well, that excuse is gone as the Sabres have scored 21 goals in their last four games. And, it's not just one game. They've scored 6, 7, 3, and 6 again today. Miller looked bad in Tampa and he looked bad again today. On the other hand, Drew Stafford is getting into scoring areas and he's made a concerted effort to score goals. He's clearly the most improved player on the team. I am very cautious when I say I think he's actually gotten it and is about to take that next step to becoming an elite player. I will caveat that by saying that there is a very high likelihood that he will make me look like a fool and eat my words. But, he seems more mature, moving better without the puck, and going into scoring areas in front of the net and finding ways to score goals. His goals today were not very pretty per se, but he just happened to be right in front of the net each time in perfect position with his stick on the ice. Those are not goals that Drew Stafford scored last year, but he is scoring them now. He is still not that great in the defensive zone, but if he can consistently score like this and be paired with some defensively responsible forwards on his line, it is worth considering re-signing him to an extension, but I'm still very cautious about that. I'll take the point, but something's got to give and the Sabres desperately need to acquire a backup goaltender before the deadline. I'm thinking a Mike Smith type player since he's already in the AHL for Tampa and would be a tremendous upgrade over Lalime. This wearing out of Miller just can't continue if the Sabres really try to make a push for the playoffs.
Saudi Arabia Rob Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 It is painful because last year you would be looking up the ice following a shot by the other team, knowing Miller would stop it and we could get a rush going the other way. This year, you get very nervous on every shot thinking it's going to go in. He has had so many goals go in through the five hole, it almost makes you wonder if that injury he's got isn't bothering him still. This game was pretty simple. You know who's playing extremely well for the Sabres? Drew Stafford. You know who's been playing really poorly? Ryan Miller. The goaltending was absolutely horrendous today.
