repster Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I'm not blaming this loss on the officiating - I think Miller had a very weak game, and the D was certainly not tight, and you have to give the Isles a little credit for their play of late, but some of the penalties called on the Sabres were phantom calls. There were at least 3. Kaleta's charge - very questionable, the "elbow" by Stafford? - not, and the hook by Hecht - it was all stick, no glove. The Isles player really sold it. They were probably told by the league to call the game really tight after what happened in the Pitt game. That was another problem I had with this game. It really sucks when you see the Rangers come back to win and the Canes/Thrashers looking like a 3 point game.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Take a breath and get ready for this week.

The sky isn't falling, they had a poor game that they still managed to pull a point out of. I'd start Miller on Tuesday vs. Montreal. If you're able to pull out a win against Montreal I'd have Enroth waiting in Buffalo to start against Toronto. If not, Miller probably starts against Toronto and perhaps sits out against St. Louis.
bunomatic Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Miller needs a break. The sabres need a back-up. the sabres need to keep Stafford.

darksabre Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Enough with the excuses. Miller has not been good all year, and other than last years aberration has never accomplished anything. All you apologists really need to open your eyes and see him for what he really is, and that's a goalie who just isn't good enough. Time to turn the page and see if the Sabres can win with Enroth because they are not going to win anything with Miller. Excuses? Miller plays a lights out season last year and puts the team on his back, and this year is a reason to let him go? He isn't Michael Leighton. He's an All Star goaltender who is having a rough year. He's being forced to take the entirety of the work load and all of the pressure is on him. That is not only mentally but physically exhausting. I'm not making excuses, I'm providing legitimate potential reasons for his struggles. Riding Enroth to the playoffs might be the dumbest suggestion anyone has ever made on this forum.
JJFIVEOH Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 This was a perfect storm of crazy crap: Devorski called about 3 stick fouls that weren't. But that's to be expected, Devorski has his arm up more than extras in a SURE commercial. Gaustad, had one unconsciously bad brain fart. Throwing the puck back. The Isles forwards are really very good. Grabner is the best shooting Austrian not named Vanek. (He's also an RFA, along with Okposo). Jurcida really shouldn't be the guy beating you. The Isles have a really bad defense. The forwards carry that team. They are young and create chances. As far as embarrassing goaltenders, I imagine it is going to happen more and more often. They are going to be playing spoiler for a lot of teams. If I had known they were going to favor the Islanders as much as they did because of that Gerbe goal, I would rather have had that goal never count. Seems the Islanders made out better from that Gerbe goal than the Sabres did.
JJFIVEOH Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 And for the record, IMO, all this nonsense about Miller being a huge competitor and his mental preparation just because he has this dark personality........... I've got news for you, it's not determination. He's egocentric. If there's anybody on this team who truly thinks he's too good to be here it's him.

It had nothing to do with the officials.

X. Benedict Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 It's the kind of game Devorski calls. He calls tons of ticky-tac. Always has.

How did that first round matchup against the worst scoring team in the playoffs and a backup goalie work out for him??? If that's putting them on his back, no thanks, i'll take my chances with someone else.

I just thought it was sickening knowing the officials were going to give the Isles the benefit of the doubt the rest of the game because of that play.
Weave Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 LO freaking L I missed the game today and just spent 20 minutes reading the roller coaster that is this thread. Anyone need to use a barf bag after that ride?

Anyone need to use a barf bag after that ride? I have a question for U guy's. Would it not be reasonable to send Lalime down/bring Enron up for a game or 2 so Lalime can get so conditioning back? That would give Miller about a week to practice/rest for Wash...
LabattBlue Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Miller just had a 9 day break. Stop it with the "he needs a break"! :wallbash:

Would it not be reasonable to send Lalime down/bring Enron up for a game or 2 so Lalime can get so conditioning back? That would give Miller about a week to practice/rest for Wash... that's a very good question. I have absolutely no idea how conditioning stints work. I think the player has to be agreeable to it, and it can't be more than 14 days. I also think it is subject to league approval. I don't think - we've been dressing him every night but not playing him is a legitimate reason. But I could be wrong.

We all talked about how underused Lalime was last year, and this season is just a repeat performance. I'm not a huge Ryan Miller fan. I never was. But I fail to see how getting rid of him gives this team a better option in goal.
