If you put a decent player in for Drury, I almost like this.

Come on Darcy, BRENT JOHNSON.

Do you see Brent Johnson as a short-term starter next season while Enroth gets up to speed, after the Sabres trade Miller? :)

I still can't believe that people are saying Kovy couldn't help this team. Right now, I wouldn't be surprised if the Devils climb all the way back and steal that coveted eighth spot from the Sabres.

If the Devils win 22 of 26 games they stand a chance.

I think he is still injured but I'd love the Sabres to try and get Praise off the Devils. Longshot I know.

I don't think it's as much of a longshot as you think it is. The Devils have major cap issues, and I think Kovalchuk's contract is completely untradeable at this point. So, that makes Parise, a Restricted Free Agent somewhat tradeable given the horrible cap issues the Devils have for this year and next year. If I were the GM, I'd offer Sweet Lou something like this:

Connolly

Any two of the following (Sekera, Adam, Butler, Gerbe) or Tyler Ennis

1st Round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft

for

Jason Arnott (UFA swap for UFA swap with Connolly)

Zach Parise

The Sabres give up an overpaid impending UFA Tim Connolly, 2 prospects or their #1 star prospect, and a first round pick

The Devils give up an overpaid impending UFA Jason Arnott and RFA Zach Parise

The first round draft pick probably makes it pretty attractive for Sweet Lou. I just don't see the Darcy being aggressive enough to offer that up or TP's team able to get something like that done by Feb. 28th. However, I would love to see a deal similar to that done at this year's entry draft. That's a bold statement. Oh, by the way, Zach Parise is one of Drew Stafford's best friends. Probably worth re-signing both Parise and Stafford, eh?

Let's not forget how Kovy helped the Devils in five--not six---playoff games last year. It was a bad idea.

I cannot imagine a trade swapping a legit all star LW for our (any 2 of) #4 D-man, unproven prospect, #7 D man, and shrimpy LW that doesn't even make most NHL rosters ever happening.

Ennis and a draft pick starts to make sense though. I think it'll take more than that but it is more on the right track than a hodgepodge of middle pairing D-men and middle line forwards.

I dont think the Sabres have anything in any combination that nets them Parise other than maybe Myers+.

NJ is going to have cap issues next year. *IF* they decide to move Parise I don't think current roster players will be their focus. They will want picks and/or prospects to be a key part of the deal. Is Parise worth giving up Ennis and Kassian?

I really don't want to see Kassian moved at this point but you've gotta give up value to get value.

Gross, but you pose an interesting idea.

Really, I just want to see some goalie fights.

I'd make that deal.

I'd make that deal.

Why not trade Roy to the Devils for Parise? Roy and a #2nd for Parise? I'm sure the Devils would pair Roy with Kovi and Roy's price would be real cap friendly to the Devils.

Their cap issues are greatly exaggerated & Brodeur may be retiring giving them even more room.

Parise is their future captain, they have room to sign him, things might get tight if he gets offer sheeted around $8 mill, but even then they're getting 4 1sts.

Heck, I'd trade Roy and a 1st for Parise.

I just don't see Lou letting him go though.

What if he just goes to arbitration?

Seems obvious that they then go to arbitration and they accept the arbitration award and work on an extension. If he won't extend beyond next year then trade him next season.

tell me you're kidding. Sekera and Del Zotto are a wash. but Drury and his 4 pts for Pommers? i don't think so. Drury coming in will be more in the Grier kind of role, not a top 6 forward.

Isn't Parise hurt? I really don't want to trade half the roster for an injured player at the deadline. Wait until the off-season, which means no CONNOLLY as part of the deal and certainly no ARNOTT.

I would trade Roy and a #1 or Ennis and Kassian for Parise. I don't think any less than either of those combinations would get it done.

I also wouldn't let the injury prevent me from making the trade immediately, especially since Ennis would be the only current subtraction, although if I traded for him now I would want an extension as part of the deal.

They need to drop dead wait like Niedermeier, and connoly. wouldnt mind seeing them let hecht and sekera go to,but they need to get a legit player back. None of these rental players like Torres or Bernier, im talking a player that will be with us for some time and produce. leave the small pick ups to the best teams and lets get a serious player.I always picture someone like Rick Nash or Kyle Okposo in a sabres jearsey and that will never happen, but they need a player in that type of mold, a big, fast, forward thats more reliable than vanek. cant wait

rick nash and drew stafford on a line with a legit top 2 center.. now that would be drool-worthy!
