Schedule and the Sabres Improvement

The Sabres have had a much more leisurely schedule since around Christmas--particularly as compared to the pre-Christmas schedule. Few back to back games, time between games, plus the all-star break. It also has allowed them to use Miller all the time without putting him under much duress.

Do you think the turnaround is directly related to the schedule, given the smallish size of the team and its general non-physical nature? Will they regress now that the schedule will again be more demanding? Will they lose every game where they don't use Miller-- as he will have to miss a few games with the schedule as it is through the end of the season.

I guess we will see after tomorrow if they have really turned the corner and that the improvement is not just schedule driven. I'd say at best it's 50-50%... DD

they did what they had to do when the schedule was lighter.. that is what is expected of a good team.

you're right, the true test starts tomorrow, with games coming up more frequently

Sabres have a chance to hit the actual .500 mark tomorrow. As had been the trend all season that appears to be what is needed to make the playoffs in the East. Along with goal differential it has been a pretty consistent stat to trend.

A statistical oddity, last season the Sabres were 23rd in blocked shots and dead last in hits. This season they are 23rd in blocked shots and dead last in hits.

Miller has been unusually honest in chirping to the media about his condition. He said his body was crying out for a break at the all-star game, and just yesterday he said he is really trying to keep his weight from falling. It's going to be a disaster come April. The best move this team can make is to invest in a $2.5 million backup that can play 25 games a year and be trusted. Then you can ride Miller in the playoffs.
