wjag Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 "With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin among the half-dozen Pittsburgh regulars out of the lineup with injuries, they were an even match for the injury-riddled Islanders, who are on their fifth goalie and missing most of their top-six defensemen and several regular forwards. On this night, the Islanders dominated totally on the scoreboard and more than held their own in a game that saw 14 fighting majors, 21 misconducts and 346 penalty minutes." wjag Posted February 12, 2011 Author Report Posted February 12, 2011 Just saw the NHL-on-the-Fly highlights. Does Martin get a season suspension for that hit on Talbot? Clearly payback for Talbot concussing Comeau earlier in the season.
deluca67 Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 First Boston & Montreal and now this? Even the Sabres have been a bit more testy than normal. Things seem to be heating up in the East. The teams out of the top 8 seem to want it more than the teams in the top, with a few exceptions both ways.
inkman Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Pens announcers among the most biased I have heard. Talbot getting what he has coming and they talk about him like he's a lady bing candidate. Pens players clearly pushing Isles into their own goalie yet announcers are incredulous as to how their goalie keeps getting "run".

rickshaw Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Me and my son just watched this while eating our oatmeal. Very entertaining. The homer commentators were a joke. Quit your crying. I think the Pens are done. The rest of the league knows they can get under their skin. If Crosby is out much longer they are in trouble. Didn't like the Bertuzzi-like sucker punch. That will be frowned upon heavily by the NHL. Talbot is lucky that dude who was on top of him, didn't make mince meat out of him. Hopefully the Isles will have nothing left for Sunday night. We need to win that game!

We need to win that game! I don't think it was anywhere remotely close to that and I'm not sure he even hit him. That was probably the most ridiculous statement those two clowns said the entire time. While mildly entertaining, give me a good, physical game, with a couple of fights to put people in their place over these WWE cage-matches any day. These brawls did nothing to change the outcomes of these or future games (not even Bos/Mont).

The only reason anyone is comparing it to the Bertuzzi incident is because the whiny Pens announcer did so. All he did was haul him down. (2) This was a cage match because the Isles were out for revenge from a few nights ago. If the league/refs had actually done something about the Talbot-Comeau hit, this may not have happened.
spndnchz Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Someone needs to pull the fire alarm at the Embassy Suites downtown.. Get some pants on!!!!
darksabre Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 You know Toe Blake? I like the Isles game. Kick the Pens while they're down. People can cry all they want about taking fighting out of the game, but goddammit that is fun to watch. :pirate:
Eleven Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Someone needs to pull the fire alarm at the Embassy Suites downtown.. Get some pants on!!!! It has happened before--I think most recently during the playoffs last year.
kishoph Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Wow, those Pens announcers are whiny little bints.... What a couple of Homerists. I liked watching the Pens get slapped.

All he did was haul him down. Gotta disagree with this, it was very similar to the Bertuzzi sucker punch but the Isle's player missed with the punch.
BADMOFO518 Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Gotta disagree with this, it was very similar to the Bertuzzi sucker punch but the Isle's player missed with the punch. agreed, but the pen's announcers were way over the top, especially the lowball jabs @ the isles calling them "an embarrasment to the league all year long" (that might not have been an exact quote but they did say something like that)
BADMOFO518 Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 What a couple of Homerists. I liked watching the Pens get slapped. and agreed, these guys act like they are THE premiere team in the league and are almost always favored by the refs and the league, it was nice to see them get a taste of their own medicine and finally have somebody stand up to them. I think the isles had every right to stand up to them like they did especially after johnson put dipietro in on the ir. Just imagine if someone did that to miller? also nice to see them take it all out of the isles, seeing as we will have to play them tommorow... (the more relevant outcome for sabres fans IMHO)
wnyguy Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 agreed, but the pen's announcers were way over the top, especially the lowball jabs @ the isles calling them "an embarrasment to the league all year long" (that might not have been an exact quote but they did say something like that) Yeah I heard them say that too. I don't think the Pens players have the same opinion of the Isles as the announcers.
BADMOFO518 Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 I think you are right, I mean back in the "old days" way back when you would have a handful of games like this throughout the course of the season, we are just shocked because we have had two in a week and none in recent memory...I dont call this "Barbaric" or "Thuggish", I would like to call this good old fashioned "Original Flavor" Hockey. Shows the refs and the rest of the league the players can police themselves. Wouldnt be so bad if that aspect of the game (i.e. the players policing themselves) would return to the game, now would it?
Tyrannustyrannus Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 what Gilles and Martin did was reprehensible. If they pulled this crap in Buffalo on Kaleta, I'm sure RJ would have something similar to say. Watch out if the score gets out of control Sunday.
rickshaw Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Gotta disagree with this, it was very similar to the Bertuzzi sucker punch but the Isle's player missed with the punch. I agree. The ramifications could have been very different had Talbot not seen it at the last second. The guy had his glove off as well, unlike Bertuzzi. Again, the Bertuzzi incident was the perfect storm. He was very unlucky that his punch knocked Moore out and the result we all know. Talbot was lucky. Anytime a guy come from behind to punch a guy, the suspension should be stiff because of what happened with Bertuzzi. As for the announcers, they were classless. They all end up being homers somewhere along the line, but the Pens' announcers were pathetic. You have to draw the line and call a spade a spade.
Eleven Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Plus a 10K fine and a 10 gm. suspension on Bylsma No automatic suspension for the coach: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=353548 Disciplinary proceedings will be at the Islanders' hotel, if anyone wants to go.
