this post got lost in the celebration because Myers scored 10 seconds later, but what do you guys think? when Myers decides he wants to take it end to end he usually can't be stopped. imagine his size/reach advantage along the boards and in the corners (in the offensive zone).

It's definitely an interesting question. Not that it is a similar comparison, but as someone who is 6'4", I am always put on defense in my beer league team even though I know I would be more productive as a forward. It's really only because there is no other better option at D. I think the same is true for the Sabres.

Even though this was "just a Florida" win it means a lot to me. I Took my dad for Christmas to the dec 23 game in the museum (HSBC) when they lost 4-3. Was really hurt after Myres got hooked at center ice and they lost. This time he blasted a winner! Only thing that would make it better if I could relive the moment when my brother almost pied his pants, "because some dude next to me in the bathroom was looking at my Bird!"

He pied his pants? Like that scene in the movie American Pie? :D

Before anyone talks about Bernier.........

his first goal since Dec 9. his 5th of the season in 43 games played.

I can't believe we didn't keep him!

2 points is 2 points.

But what a snoozer this game was for most of the way. Surprised actually that the Sabres players couldn't get enough energy up to sustain an attack for a full period atleast given the importance of the 2 points and given the opponent.

But, 2 points it 2 points, like I said. Good job, on to the next.

Paul Byron is fun to watch. He has no business being as fearless as he plays.

well said.

That was a huge back check by Pommers......

Good call -- that was a great play and a nice all-around game by Pommer.

You bring up a good point. Who sits on Sunday? Will Lindy have the balls to sit #20?

Not a snowball's chance in hell. The kid goes back down...

I initially thought it would be Gerbe who would be scratched but I think MadCap is right.

Kaleta may not be ready, and even if he is, I don't think he adds that much.

He adds a physical presence. Even with the game he has missed he was tied with the Goose for hits (before tonight). Fans seem to want Byron to stay and #19, 20, or 25 sit but we all know Lindy. Byron will be back in the next few weeks after someone else goes down. Great Game WINNER by Myres!

11 -- I beg to differ. BFR_C is right, although he needs a better username.

The raping and pillaging down here three weeks from tonight is beginning to look verrrry interesting...

You should definitely go to that game.

Separately, do you watch the games in the outdoor mancave even when it's cold? It was like 20 degrees here tonight.

My 2 cents:

1. That was the kind of professional, grind-it-out win they produced quite a few times last year.

2. Miller didn't get too much work, but he looked pretty good.

3. Lousy game by the TC-Ennis-Stafford line. They were completely soft and ineffective on the forecheck.

4. Ennis did lay out another one of his take-you-by-surprise solid hits though.

5. Good job by McCormick in fighting Hordichuk, who is a bad SOB.

6. Pretty solid game by Myers, who led in ice time with over 25 minutes. Weber also had a very solid game on D.

7. Even Butler played a good bit and didn't do too badly. Maybe Leopold is a good partner for him.

8. Gotta give credit again to Vanek for stepping up with a big goal relatively late in a tight game (and a great play by Pommer to feed him from the corner). PAFan -- he was #2 in ice time among forwards, just a few seconds below Hecht.

9. I expect Miller to play again vs the Isles as the game isn't until Sunday.

10. Speaking of the schedule: the Sabres are home vs. the Isles, then in Montreal, then home for 6 in a row, then on the road for 7 in a row. The trade deadline is after the last game of the homestand.

The Sabres are coming after both Carolina and the Rangers.

nfreeman??whats that? Fans from Buffalo are crazy. They are like that one girlfriend everyone has had....Love you when you are doing well, and hate your guts all the other times.

Now that Buffalo's finally gotten over the 3rd-win-in-a-row hump, maybe they can finally get a real streak going.

Yep! This Sunday is the "true" .500 hump, with Tuesday being the over .500 hump, and Wednesday likely being the 8th seed hump.

Sometimes I think that Myers just isn't a very smart hockey player...

MYERS!!!!!

the fact that these 2 posts were separate by 2 minutes just slayed me.

yeah he won the calder, but the guy is still going to have some growing pains before he establishes himself firmly as an elite #1 d-man.

Sometimes I think that Myers wants to be a forward but was a defenseman by default due to his size. I think Lindy should experiment with him at forward some time.. not to play full time forward but a shift here and there.

interesting thought. while myers capably carries the play from the back-end and is willing to pinch, i think that those are things that very good/great/elite d-men do -- i don't think that such play suggests that the player longs to be a forward.

i think that it would be a mistake to do anything with myers other than nurture his development into an elite #1 d-man -- a rock of the franchise.
