Regier was extended last fall!

"It does look a little bit more serious now," said goaltender Ryan Miller. "It's still a business deal so until everything is signed and they announce it with a press conference and they run their flag up the pole and it's their ship, it's got to be status quo. What we do here is the way we run things."

Ha! Even the players know what to call it!

Oh my friggin God. Its like chucky returns or bride of friggin chucky. Is this the sequel to my worst nightmare? Regier was extended and they kept it a secret? What the f#@$'s with that? Why would they keep it a secret. Were they afraid there would be blood in the streets if the little people knew about that extension? This franchise has hit an all time low .

It just makes me wonder about something;

Who do we blame for someone like the "other Nieds"? I mean, sure, he looks horrible and we can safely say now without hesitation that his signing was a horrible decision...

- BUT -

Who do we blame when he skates out onto the ice Friday night? Why is he still in the line-up?

I could keep going, but Nieds is the most recent blunder in a long list of poop.

I fear Darcy is nothing more than another name on that long, long list. TP has his work cut out for him, good luck with that...

Just because he signed an extension doesnt mean that Mr. Pegulla isnt gonna can him. I doubt that if He wants his own man in there running things a two year extension is going to bother him at all...

Do you really think a man worth billions, buying a team worth millions, cares about a couple more million? Unless Darcy/Ruff are life long friends, I don't see them surviving more than a year under new ownership. GMs/coaches get bought out all the time.

This

Something else I have seen done before is to take the guy out of the GM role and kick him into some kind of advisor role.

I personally wouldn't just let him walk with the money(e.g. buyout) I would put his arse on the road in an executive leased chevy cobalt scouting junior teams in alaska.

Part of the 14 million "liabilities"?

possibly (and an interesting call on your part).

assumed liabilities generally refer to stuff like long-term debt (loans, revolving credit facilities) and not to ongoing obligations such as those found in employment contracts ... but, still -- maybe.

Sounds to me like it was just a way to get Regier a little extra cash on the way out.

This is what it sounds like to me too. My first thought is, this is how a loyal employee who did exactly what you wanted him to do is treated. Tells me that Darcy had his hands tied and is being rewarded for sticking around, sticking to the needs of the owner, and doing a good job in their eyes. Essentially he's getting a big bonus for helping inflate the worth of the team.

It would certainly explain how the Darcy under Rigas and the league performed so differently from the Darcy of TG/LQ.

not to go all PA on everyone (but, hey, he said something similar about me recently), but that story from harrington was a careless blend of journalism and opinion piece. to wit:

A contract extension was handed out some time last fall to embattled General Manager Darcy Regier, who was widely believed to be on his way out once Tom Golisano sold the franchise he purchased in 2003.

....

Regier, a polarizing figure to fans

embattled. widely believed to be on his way out. polarizing.

i don't disagree with any of those characterizations, per se, but they belong in an opinion piece, not in a report about the extension's existence.

Well, since the team won't confirm or deny the extention there aren't really any bonafide facts to report on. So yeah, it is an article written as an opinion piece to get some news out about an extention that noone seems to want to admit to. There must be alot of smoke for Harrington to write and say that he strongly suspects a flame.

The only other option the News has is to not report it cuz the team won't confirm anything. And you know that ain't gunna happen right about now.

LR: Did u get an extension?

DR: Me? no, um, well..

LMAO

Didn't Darcy at one time say that Lindy is the head coach as long as he is the GM?

This shouldn't change anything. Regier is a toxic asset and shouldn't be anywhere near this organization after this season.

A good litmus test for Pegula. If Regier gets to hang around because Pegula doesn't want to buy out his contract, damn, we're effed with our Dockers on.

Rivet (3.5M) + Connolly (4.5M) + Hecht (3.5M) + Grier (1.4M) + Niedermeyer (1.25M) = $14M

There you have it, 14 million in liabilities.
