Stoner Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 To clarify some issues.... All point totals for team and players are regular season totals. For individual players it is NHL regular season total regardless of team they end up on. The jersey will be from a former player and acquired straight from the Sabres. Some have certificates, the older ones do not. My pleasure to spice things up. At least if the last few weeks are meaningless, there will be something to root for. It's not your Rick Vaive with the man-mayo stain, is it?

JujuFish Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 This sounds like fun. Watch me fail miserably: 1) Will the Sabres make the playoffs this season? Yes 2) Will Tim Connolly be a member of the Sabres on March 1, 2011? Yes 3) Will Nathan Gerbe score over 13 1/2 goals this season? No 4) Will Terry Pegula be introduced as owner of the Sabres IN A PRESS CONFERENCE on or before March 4, 2011? No 5) Will the Sabres have over 86 1/2 points in the standings? Yes 6) Will Rob Niedermayer have over 3 1/2 goals this season? No 7) Will Steve Montador be a member of the Sabres on March 1, 2011? Yes 8) Will Ryan Miller have over 35 1/2 wins this season? Yes 9) Will Nathan Gerbe have a fighting major by the end of the season? No 10)Will Tyler Ennis have more points than Drew Stafford this season? Yes Tie) How many points will the Sabres have in the standings at the end of the season? 93

My entry was more in the form of trying to peg the questions evenly. If I did my job, it should end up 5 yes and 5 no or totals right around the number.

And 86 1/2 points? J/w cuz last I knew you couldn't pick up half points anywhere so why is "more than 13 1/2 goals" any different than "more than 13 goals"

J/w cuz last I knew you couldn't pick up half points anywhere so why is "more than 13 1/2 goals" any different than "more than 13 goals" Because it's possible for Gerbe to score 1/2 a goal. In all seriousness, it's just a way to make sure there is no tie. I'm sure people get the idea, and it makes for no confusion on a round number. Usually it would be presented as an over/under, not a question. Just like Vegas is going to try and hold the line at 2.5 on Green Bay as long as possible because they would hate an even amount of points to cause no action.

Thanks for this, DD. Should make the rest of the season more interesting. Unfortunately, it may be the most interesting thing about the rest of the season.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 Contest is CLOSED!!! Thanks for playing. 32 entries, so you have a real shot.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 Here are the stats. 32 contestants Everyone but Weave has Montador staying with the team. Five people have Connolly getting traded. Four people have Miller winning less than 36 games.....I set a soft number, but I think I may catch y'all on this one Three people have Stafford with more points than Ennis by the end of the year, which is surprising since Stafford is outpointing him per game and could catch him. I knew the safe play was Ennis, but given all the Stafford love, I thought a few more would take a shot. Only 6 people have the Sabres ending up with less than 87 points, which is interesting because only 13 of 32 think they will make the playoffs, and the average tiebreak was 89.6 points. For so many people to have them with 87 points but not make the playoffs is sticking them in a tight window. 12 of 32 think Gerbe will score 14 or more goals....again a little surprising given his streak and improved play. I set this a little high and you caught me, so I give credit. 8 of 32 think Niedermayer can net 4 goals. That's about where I figured. He's so crappy that 2.5 would have gotten 50/50 or better I think. 3.5 scares everyone off. Thanks Darcy! 9 think Gerbe will get a fighting major. Just a cute little question that went about as expected. With this one, Niedermayer and Montador...I was trying to reward some risk taking. And finally.....the yes vote on Mr. Pegula came in hot and heavy with word coming out in NC to make up for a bevy of early no votes. 17-15 believe he will introduced...now remember....at a press conference, by March 4th. We need to see that sweet lil' fanny sitting in front of the shower curtain for a yes confirmation. Good luck. I'll have fun watching this progress.
Ghost of ghost of Taro Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Instead of everybody twiddling our thumbs like dear Darcy, I figured we could spice things up a bit. Here's how it goes..... Prize: Game Worn Buffalo Sabres jersey Rules: One entry per person. You are on your honor not to use multiple accounts. Must be a registered member on, or before January 27th. You will answer 10 yes/no questions. The person with the most correct answers will win. The tie breaker will be how many points will the Sabres end the year with in the standings. The person closest in either direction will win. If still tied, the winner will be determined by how many consecutive questions were answered correctly starting from #1 and moving down. If it is still tied, the person who posted their answers first will win. Entries close Saturday, January 29th at 11:59 PM. At that time I will make a hard copy of all answers and leave the thread open for future comment. Here are the questions. To make it simple, either copy and paste Y/N after each, or just write the numbers and answers in your own post. Good luck. 1) Will the Sabres make the playoffs this season? No 2) Will Tim Connolly be a member of the Sabres on March 1, 2011? No 3) Will Nathan Gerbe score over 13 1/2 goals this season? No 4) Will Terry Pegula be introduced as owner of the Sabres IN A PRESS CONFERENCE on or before March 4, 2011? No (It'll happen around Easter.)8 5) Will the Sabres have over 86 1/2 points in the standings? Yes 6) Will Rob Niedermayer have over 3 1/2 goals this season? It's a cool contest. Am looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
Weave Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Heh. I was keeping an eye on the picks to see if anyone matched my answers and noone was touching the Monty question. I figure he might be the Sabres most moveable player (salary and performance) and defence is highly sought after at the deadline. I am suprised I am the only one that sees him getting dealt. Great idea GoDD. It'll be fun to watch how it unfolds.
thesportsbuff Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 My answers may be a little unrealistic but I didn't want to put myself in a position where towards the end of the season I'd be rooting for them to MISS playoffs so I could win this contest, rather than having them make playoffs and be bounced in the first round. It's all or nothing for me!

OverPowerYou Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Just one question, how in the world do you have 3 and 1/2 goals? Is that counting assists?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 Just one question, how in the world do you have 3 and 1/2 goals? Is that counting assists? No...the 1/2 is just to make sure there is an outcome. 4 goals or more is a yes, 3 or less is a no. Same with others that use 1/2 point. This should get fun. I would love it if it came down to the last game and Niedermayer has 3 goals, Gerbe has 13, Miller has 35 wins, the Sabres have 85 points, and Gerbe starts a brawl! Even with all the Pegula hubub, he still needs to take official control of theam and have a press conference to announce it. This Thursday will just be that there is an agreement in principal. If the roof on HSBC caves in next week, things could change.
