Stoner Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 NJ is starting to figure things out though... 6-1-1 in last 8. Maybe it was all about their coach? I wonder if they thought highly enough of Kovalchuk to basically sacrifice one season?
deluca67 Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 I wonder if they thought highly enough of Kovalchuk to basically sacrifice one season? Could be, maybe they saw the writing on the wall in regards to Brodeur and decided to start making changes.
Weave Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Could be, maybe they saw the writing on the wall in regards to Brodeur and decided to start making changes. My thought all along with the Kovy deal was that the team knew Brodeur was on his way out and they needed a new superstar to replace him with. NJ always has a tough time selling regular season tix, even when they have great teams. I would imagine that ownership thought they needed some star power to keep tix sales at least flat while Brodeur is nearing the end. Sinking the season and getting a top pick (future star) might just be icing on the cake.
X. Benedict Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 I wonder if they thought highly enough of Kovalchuk to basically sacrifice one season? Absolutely not IMO. I really thought the owners pushed Lamiorello into a deal he didn't want. They saw this as a way to both fill the building and win it all. They have been able to win it all before, they just never fill a building.
Kristian Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 NJ is starting to figure things out though... 6-1-1 in last 8. Maybe it was all about their coach? Wait a sec.... A team can change coaches...?? Mid-season...??!!
nfreeman Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 NJ is starting to figure things out though... 6-1-1 in last 8. Maybe it was all about their coach? A work colleague of mine who grew up in NJ and is a huge Devils fan thinks this is the case.
