Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 C'mon, really? If they scored when Shakira pushed him into Miller, I got no problem with the no-call. When Foligno turned on his own and ran into Miller, keeping him from reaching out to get the puck, it's interference. I play in a no-hit beer league and they don't call what Shakira did in front of the net. Give me one other example of the refs calling that in the hundreds of games played just this year alone and you might have a point. It was interference. That's why you don't push a guy into your crease and towards your goalie. He has a right to get out. Miller had just come 7 feet out of the crease to hook a guy. The ref is not looking to do him any favors at that point. I HATE.....anyone chirping about the refs. That's why you dictate play. Lindy and Miller are career whiners. Too bad we don't have anyone who can stand in front on the powerplay and run interference.

Sekera was in front of Foligno when Foligno dove into Miller. Interference. Any goalie in the league would chirp about that one. Missed call. That's all.
Weave Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Too bad we don't have anyone who can stand in front on the powerplay and run interference. Amen to this sentiment. We haven't had someone willing to interfere with the goalie from time to time since Dave Andrechuck had his first go around here.

Any goalie in the league would chirp about that one. Missed call. That's all. I agree. Sekera never pushed him into Miller he stood back and watched him interfere with Miller which was worse. Foligno got the benefit of the no call and Miller got jobbed. That being said Miller pulled a bonehead move to put us down a man in the first place.

Any goalie in the league would chirp about that one. Missed call. That's all. It is interference by definition.....but Sekera let Foligno get behind him....then pushed him twice INTO the crease. It wasn't a missed call....it was a cop laughing at the guy who tried to steal a slice of pizza from LaNova on Chippewa....then wanted to press charges when they slammed his hands in the oven door.

I'll say it again, pushing Foligno into the crease IS NOT A PENALTY! Foligno hitting Miller while trying to make a save is.
Weave Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I'll say it again, pushing Foligno into the crease IS NOT A PENALTY! Foligno hitting Miller while trying to make a save is. I still think the puck was in the net before the contact with Miller was made.

It wasn't a missed call....it was a cop laughing at the guy who tried to steal a slice of pizza from LaNova on Chippewa....then wanted to press charges when they slammed his hands in the oven door. Sekera regained position. There wasn't any contact that put Foligno into Miller. Miller said afterword the Ref called the puck in the net before contact which seems to me even more incredible. Bad call. It happens.
SwampD Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I still think the puck was in the net before the contact with Miller was made. I just watched that play about six times in super slo-mo. Foligno kept Miller from stopping that puck (with his waffle, not with his glove like I said earlier). It was interference and it's a good sign to me that they won anyway, in spite of that call.

repster Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Any way you slice it, the Swords are back in the playoff race. Young hungry players showing up and getting just enough effort in to pull the two points out of these games. It's not pretty by any stretch, but they are getting the job done. Some credit has to go to Ruff for willing these guys along. Lots of comments earlier in the thread about my favourite to replace RJ when he wants to retire. I've been saying it since I heard him call the Anaheim game last year. Just a nice smoooth call of the flow of the game. Sounds like he's a natural - someone who could be a network guy.
nfreeman Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I'll take the win, but that kind of effort isn't going to generate too many more wins this year. Miller was very good again though. Myers was kind of up-and-down tonight, as were most of the D. I thought Hecht had a pretty good game, as did the smurfs. Stafford seemed a step slow in his return. They need 44 points in their last 33 games to get to 95. 20-9-4 will do it. Carolina is on pace for 93. It's doable.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Yep. interference.bmp Maybe you need to show the Sekera crosschecks beforehand.....and Foligno going back at Sekera at the time of the contact. He didn't aim for Miller, he was collateral damage. Penalty? Sure....if you want. I wouldn't call it, especially at full speed after watching Miller act like a jagoff seconds earlier and Sekera putting the stick to Foligno. 90% of Foligno's energy was directing towards Sekera. I really don't care.....my skin just crawls watching Ruff go into whiner mode and Miller going into a huff. Again, the Sabres don't have anyone who can dictate play. Back in the day if you felt you got jobbed, you send out a crash line and drive every guy through the boards with clean hits. The ref knows he owes it to you and you take control. That's not even an option for Lindy, except for sending his goons out against Spezza/Heatley/and a goalie 5 years ago. Ooooh....tough!
darksabre Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Sabres win tonight. The Sens are a mess. Boom.

BUT, because of the events leading up to Foligno making contact with Miller (unintentionally), no self-respecting ref is going to make that call. Completely agree.

You mean "these" games, as in two out of the three games they lost recently when playing the lowly Islanders?

There is so much wrong with this post that I don't know where to start. I just watched it several times again because you got me questioning my reality this morning. At no point did Shakira crosscheck Foligno, never once. In fact I want Shakira to do exactly what he did Foligno to every player that is in front of our net for the rest of the season. It's about time that other teams have just as much trouble in front of our net as we have in front of theirs. It doesn't matter if Foligno meant hit Miller or not. He hit him and kept him from stopping the puck. It was interference. Every coach and every goalie from every team would have acted like Miller and Ruff on that play. I see it all the time. Logic Check - What good would sending a crash line out there be? If it wasn't a penalty, as you said, then why would the ref feel he owes you? As flawed as this team is, I'm a little surprised that we all aren't a little happier about the way they've gone into the break. And if nothing else, hasn't it been great watching a Sabres team without Grey Cloud on it?

That Aud Smell Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 i tuned in for the third and, almost against my will, i was impressed with byron. yeah, he's a smurf, but at least he's playing like his arse is on fire -- plus, he appears almost as greasy and shifty as ennis (who also looked dangerous to me). i thought that dunleavy was sylvester. is the team using multiple sub's for rj because of scheduling conflicts for the subs, or are they using this as an open audition of sorts? honest to god, i'd effectively written the season off and started moving on to other things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPw-3e_pzqU

Maybe OSP can write another letter to Bettman. The same fan base that calls Crosby "Crysby" and boos him every time he touches the puck puts up with this crap from Miller. Weird.
nfreeman Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Hopefully he has played his last game as a Sabre. I would prefer he return after the ASG, play well enough to curry the interest of other GMs, and then get parlayed into a good draft pick at the deadline.

With this GM? If he came back after the ASG and played well he would get a frigging extension. I don't want to risk that.
