I'd love to hear from some of the people who insisted that Gerbe could never contribute in the NHL. :)

It takes time to adjust to this league. Whenever a young player comes up and struggles you always get this "he sucks!" reaction. Give it time, can't tell until they have played so many number of games

Come on nfreeman, you had your chance to throw some coins there and get the Sabres a power play! Either nfreeman a. doesn't carry coins or b. smartly, wouldn't want the Sabres to have a power play with the lead.

Seriously, glad you got to see a win.

It's also typical for smaller players to take longer to develop their scoring game in the NHL, such as Sullivan or St. Louis.

If the Sabres had 6 legitimate top 6 forwards on this roster Gerbe would still be in the pressbox.

Sheesh, Tim Kenneddy scored 10 goals for Buffalo. Where is he now? I am happy Gerbe is scoring some goals. I still think he is in the AHL if the Sabres had a decent roster.

Ya know, the Boston broadcast crew gets heat for being homers, but holy cow, Rick and Harry really laid it on thick on New York's last goal. How the hell would they know that Miller couldn't see the puck? The reply from behind the net looked very much like Miller would have or could have or should have seen the puck.

Also, is it me or does Rick basically jump Harry's ass three times during every broadcast? They must be really good friends for Harry to take it.

It's hilarious when he does. Harry is ALWAYS jumping to conclusions on things.. he tries to describe plays, even after seeing the replay in the booth, but still manages to describe it completely wrong.

These clowns are going to do it. They're going to make the friggin playoffs.

Heh, I went and posted something along those lines a little while back and then they went and lost those 1st two to the Islanders to completely erode my faith in them.

They are 7-4 in January. An improvement. But not enough to inspire confidence in me any longer.

Maybe he finally gets it but I'd like a larger sample size before jumping to any conclusions.

Kinda like all the people who think Stafford has seen the light.

Thanks. It was pretty fun, although I always prefer a packed house and a loud crowd to the half-empty and fairly dead arena I saw today. Still, I was happy with the win, especially in light of the roster, and happy to see them coming out and playing better against this opponent.

My game notes:

1. Today's lineup included Gragnani (again dressing over Rivet and Butler), Ellis, Byron and Gerbe. Hello Portland.

2. Byron looked decent to me -- he didn't do much but showed pretty good skills and didn't make any blunders that stood out. I think he got some PK time as well, which surprised me.

3. Vanek had 13 minutes and I think got all of his even-strength shifts with Byron and Ellis. Eeeeeesh. I suspect he's planted in Lindy's doghouse right now.

4. Myers looked better to me and got 20 minutes.

5. As I mentioned above, I was 4 rows behind the Sabres' bench thanks to Stubhub and favorable supply/demand conditions. Anyway, among the people I was sitting with was my friend and his 8-month-pregnant wife. When the Sabres returned from the 1st intermission, she observed that as a group they were pretty ripe. Moral of the story: pregnant women are like bloodhounds.

6. I continue to be not very impressed with the Leopold/Montador pair. I thought they didn't do particularly well on either of the 1st 2 Islanders goals.

7. Grier was also out to lunch on the 2nd Islanders goal. He has to make that play on the backcheck -- that kind of play is the whole purpose of having him on the team.

8. Ennis and Gerbe are both really coming on.

9. If they can squeeze out another win on Tuesday with this lineup and then get some guys healthy over the break, February could get pretty interesting -- and that doesn't even include the ownership situation.

Go Sabres.

Don't they call tripping any more ? Of course in LINDY's bazzaro world VANEK ends up with the least ice time of all forwards, good strategy. Not only the least amount of time, but every forward has at least 1 minute more.

After the game and only 13 minutes of icetime Ruff confirmed that Vanek has been feeling the effects of an undisclosed injury. So I guess in Lindys bizarro world cutting back on Vaneks icetime makes pretty good sense. Goes to show that as fans we really don't know f$%@ all about what goes on behind the scenes and some still find it pretty easy to criticize the coach for his methods. Who Knew?
