No Roy, no problem.

Are we a better team because Derek Roy went out? Hell yah we are. His loss was the wakeup call we needed. It slapped Vanek into shape, mentally, and gave him the kickstart he needed to play better. Everyone had to step up to get them to where they are now. That being said, we are certainly not a better team without him. The only benefit was the actual act of losing him for an extended period of time. When he comes back, the team will have changed. Just put him on a different line and I think it would make for a very balanced attack that could terrify some teams down the stretch.

Right now the only true centers on this roster that are healthy are Connolly, Niedermayer, and Gaustad (Hecht, Boyes, and McCormick are wings). The first two suck and won't be here next season. Gaustad is a career 4th liner. There's not much potential for scoring centers in Portland. The same is mostly true for July's free agent markent. The best hope is by trading for them.

So given this dismal situation, people still want to get rid of our best scoring center?! The bottom line is that the Sabres are better with an additional point-per-gamer like Roy. This franchise has performed better since Roy went down because they rallied together as a team (and the emergence of younger guys like Ennis, Gerbe, and Weber has helped), not because Roy's play was holding them back.

Really? No chance we're a better team without Roy. As other posters have pointed out our D was terrible early. It takes awhile for new D pairings to gel and Morrison, Leopold and eventually Weber took time comming into form. Didn't help that Myers was in a crazy sophmore slump early on. Roy was our best player before he got hurt and you can't blame him because other players weren't getting the job done! Let's make the playoffs, get out of the first round and possibly get him back.
