What's the point? To show how many people predicted they will miss the playoffs? Should I revive it if they don't make it to the 3rd round as you predicted when you started this thread?

Meaning that it would be great to celebrate more than just making the playoffs. Getting to the post season is better than another early start to watching baseball. Winning at least one round of the playoffs is nice but getting to the Eastern Conference Finals would be great & we can dream about some year soon getting one more series win than the 1999 run. I think we were all pretty pessimistic earlier this year that we would even get close to making the playoffs and now it's all trended in such a better direction even the doubters are believing in this year's team. Whatever does occur, it's already so much better than it has been in a long time and as one fan, I feel better about where we are going under Pegula's ownership.

I believe Philly would roll right over us in the first round. Way too much scoring depth, size and speed. An upset isn't out of the question, but not by this group. Sorry.

Care to refresh that opinion in light of current events?

I hope to revive this thread at least once more when the regular season is over & Buffalo is officially in the playoffs. As for now though it is nice to have our team in 8th with plenty of games in hand to take over the 7th spot!

Those who predicted failure hate to have their noses rubbed in this.

Are you sure about that ? I kinda thought it was like the Daytona 500 where you go around and around the same track subject. ;)

Sorry Dman couldn't let that big old softball go by w/o swinging at it.

Out of the park.

One more regulation win and we'll have the DeLuca500!

I think it's actually 1 more win of any flavor to get to the DL .500.

The Sabres have come close a few times in the last couple of weeks but have fallen short each time.

Tonight's the night.

This...

Agreed and anyway it is easier to vote against and be happy that they are in then get sucked into hoping they get their and be disappointed. Either way go Sabres.

I was pretty depressed in late November/early December because the NFL was comming to an end. Generally I don't mind too much because the Sabres are great to watch but the position they were in then, it was pretty bad. What a turnaround and just having meaningful games to watch now is great. If we go out in the first round fine.

It'll be a totally different mentality cheering for the Sabres in the playoffs as an underdog (assuming we make it). It looks like (correct me if I'm wrong) it was the 1999/2000 season that Buffalo finished in the bottom four of the playoffs. It's been 11 years since we were underdogs going into the first round of the playoffs. I for one am interested to see what they do with a little less pressure going into the final tournament.

Are you sure you meant 99-2000? That year they were 8th but didn't make it out of the first round (No Goal 2 was part of that series). Perhaps you meant 98-99?

Sure but at the time I posted that what I said was correct. The sabres have turned the corner but I wouldn't discount the Flyers just yet despite how they're playing right now.

The Sabres need to make 7th because the Devils are coming hard and have played 3 fewer games than the ranges and if they won all those would be at 70pts and only 4 behind the rangers. We need to overtake the rangers! Let them fall to Jersey's insane rebound of awesomeness... Seriously though if i was forced to predict things right now, I say sabres finish in 7th, Devils in 8th by 1 point over the rangers

How realistic is 6th or 5th?

The Devils are the team to worry about for me as well.

I am in awe of what they have accomplished already and that Kovalchuk signing appears to be panning out some.

But why shoot for 7th, why not aim for 6th?

Difficult but not impossible, Montreal has been red hot behind Price but Tampa has been stumbling. Ask again in 8 games and I'll feel better about saying "WE WANT 6th!" Montreal is 7pts up and Tampa Bay is 10 pts up and we have 1 game in hand on both so its a hill but if we climbed it... the sky would be the limit.

We get a bruised and beaten Pittsburgh team tonight, then a real test against the Bruins, followed by winnable games against Toronto and Ottawa, then a pivotal match up with Carolina on the ides of March. I say we could win 4/5, and if so, we could gain a lot of ground on Montreal -- they have Boston, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Washington and Tampa -- so a little bit rougher than Buffalo's.

We play them on the 22nd.

LOL

After 3/4 of the season we scratch and claw into 8th and now we are discussing 5th place? Someone pass the lithium carbonate over.

5th place will be no problem. Did you forget that the Sabres are getting Stamkos?

Would "rubbing their noses in it" fall under the category of message board superiority?

Tonight's the night.

I owe you $30 at the Sabre Store for Connolly playing 50+. Do you want to go double or nothing on the Sabres making the playoffs? I say they miss. I should get 2-1 if they are 70%, but I'm willing to wager even money.

I agree that tonight is the night. If they win tonight I think they could push through. There are a lot of things going against them still, but i can't deny that Philly game showed something diffferent. With these guys though, if they lose 2 in a row....all the feel good confidence will be lost and they are on their own without momentum. That's where I don't think they have it in them. They need to be 3 points secure in a spot come the last 5 games because they will be hanging on by their fingernails in my opinion.
