Lots of insightful posts and good reading here. My small contribution is that, in my opinion, Sekera always seems to make the right moves.

The Versus guys were talking about Myers' struggles this season and mentioned that Lindy told them he had considered benching Myers a few times this season. A bit of news -- at least I hadn't heard about it. Anyone?

A siginificant number of posters here seem to think he is playing great this year and could be a future Chara : wub: No chance...Every time he shoots i wonder which pane of glass the puck will hit or who will be on their way to the hospital. He is on net about one in every 10-15 shots. On the d end he is painfully slow with his outlet pass making decisions and coughs the puck up far too often. He does not belong on the pp unit either.

First they got rid of their offense, then their power play and this year it looks like they finally got rid of of what was left of their defense. Myers has been playing like a twenty year old kid, which is to be expected because he is. He will improve significantly with time but, imo, will never be a superstar. Ask yourself what d men the Sabres have that you would put in the top thirty? On the offensive side there is Vanek, alone. The only guy they have with any hockey sense and presense on the ice. He must feel lonely with nobody to play with who knows how and when to deliver a puck. Instead he gets to watch them shoot when they should pass and pass when they should shoot. Trade the guy..give him away to somebody..pay half his salary if you have too Darcy. Release him from hockey hell.

Wow. Montreal has really taken a beating this year with injuries. No Markov all year, and no Cammaleri for a good chunk of the 2nd half? Eeeesh.

There are big tears in my eyes, not.

Versus guy says that was Pominville's second career OT goal. Does everyone remember his first?

Those were the days...

He scored an overtime goal against the Capitals two years ago in one of the last games of the season, I know it was a friday in Washington too. So yeah, the VS people don't know anything.

evidently you saw nothing of last season when Myers was playing.

He was enjoying his honeymoon then. Heck, he still is. Awesome last season but he certainly suffered his share of terrible, awful, egregrious turnovers. People see what they want to see.

"Sophomore Slump" or "The Lindy Effect?"

Does anyone know who is the happiest person in WNY that Gerbe drew that penalty against Scott Gomez? I do, it was Paul Gaustad. Paul Gaustad had just got out worked for the puck seconds before by Brian Gionta. It may have been the weakest play Gaustad made all season.

In an otherwise very good game for Gaustad.

Gaustad 14-6 faceoffs 70%

Rest of Sabres 13-26 33% ouch.

The last thing I care about when it come to Gaustad is face-offs. It's like judging Shaq on tip-off percentage. The guy has size and he plays smaller than Gerbe.

I still think that his skating looks like a newborn foal taking it's first steps. But that line has looked pretty good of late, and was on the ice last night to close it out.

They have nothing else.

Last night they said he was the Sabres "bruiser guy that lays the body".

We could go round and round about him, but if the Sabres didn't have a Gaustad, they'd have to go out and get somebody like him. Winning 14 possessions ain't chump change. He was practically calling his draws last night, which is a pretty dominant thing to do.

He went from being a rookie we had limited expectations from to the expected rock of the team, on the top D-pair, playing PP and PK minutes and logging over 22 min per game.

As we can see, too much to soon. I'd wager if Myers wasn't on the top pair at the beginning of this season he would not have struggled as much. Also a quicker wristshot from point would work better for him - with his wingspan, by the time he winds up and fires slapshots, d-men have ample time to block shooting lanes and clear the blue ice for the goalie.

Its a very dominant thing to do. But he cant do much else effectively.
