I feel like I'm the only one who likes Grier... he gives 110% every shift, plays the penalty kill, is part of our shut down line.. I know he doesn't produce the offensive numbers people want but I think he is a very important role player for this team. It's guys like him that build the foundation for this team to be successul.

You're certainly not the only one who likes Grier. His past indicates he has more offensive potential than he currently shows, but from what I remember seeing him in an Edmonton sweater he was a faster player....doesn't seem to skate so well anymore. I don't think he does anything great besides go all out every time on the ice. He basically has no hands, his straight line speed is below average and his agility has to be among the worst in the league, he's a good but not great defensive player...but he plays his heart out. Wasn't it great to see him get the game winner in Philly? That's what makes this team so likeable/good...everybody contributes and we don't have any a$$holes! Many Sabres fans I'm sure like him, some and possibly most do not, but there can't be many more guys in the Sabres locker room more respected than Grier..and that impact on the team can't be summarized by goals, points, +/-, or ice time.

I have no problems with the Grier who has been playing the last week or so. My problem is that before that he would be invisible on the ice and had gone something like 15 games without a point. No hitting, no ability to make a good pass, etc... Then he snapped out of it. Go figure.

The guy is not there to score points. He's there to play solid defensively and on the PK.

First of all if you are in the forward ranks and skating a regular shift, I'd expect some contribution from you offensively. 0 points over 15 games is what I expect from Peters. Also, as I mentioned previously, he was doing nothing over a long period of games, not hitting, not making a pass, etc... This is evidenced by the fact that he is a minus player on the season and up until recently was a double digit minus player. I would expect more from our defensive specialist.

But I give credit when credit is due...his overall play over the last few games has picked up.

All I gotta say is that the emotion that he displayed after his goal in Philly was priceless. They way he practically smothered Roy and the way the rest of the team celebrated was good to see. It showed the camaraderie of this team.

No way Jose, i love Grierzy too!!!

I've gotten to many arguements with friends, some post here, about his role, i think he's a must in the lineup. And i agree with all you said!! Well done.

I couldn't agree more. I think Grier is precisely the kind of player that is making the Sabres what they are this season, and thus why no one outside of S.Ontario, Buffalo and Rochester knows anyone on the roster except Drury. Grier is simply a guy whose value to the team isn't reflected by stats...it's measured by his actions on and off the ice.

While I don't think I would ever go buy a Grier jersey, I love knowing he's one of those coaching type players, like Teppo.

This Sabres team relies on players like grier. Yes, granite he didn't produce many points for a time there, but notice lindy feels he is such an assest on the PK and a defensive gem that he can't possibly scratch him. He will mever be a healthy scratch, because I believe Lindy looks at Mike Grier as one of the teams Top PK'ers, and Do you need a reason as to why the PK is currently ranked 2nd (if thats still accurate) Mike is clutch, even though offensive numbers may not support it. GO Sabres!!!

agreed grier and teppo are both like that... there contributions are more valuable through actions and not points... we got tonns of guys scoring points we need grier to focus on what he's doing best.

while i have been frustrated with him at times this year, i just gotta love grier because, in my own pathetic little beer-league way, i pride myself on being the same sort of player!

i possess not much any one attribute, but you CAN'T outwork me. that is as long as you are a legitimate C-leaguer who can barely skate shoot or pass!

hey, we all need role models!

Grier mentioned in the post game interview the other night that the break during lock-out really hurt his offensive game. He obviously had his problems earlier in the year but I bet you dollars to donuts that he makes every penny of his 1.6 million dollar salary in the playoffs this year. Him and Drury have already started playing their playoff hockey last week. They will be on a tear for the rest of the season if they are able to stay %100 healthy.
