due to the earlier discussion about the sabres and rentals this article from the fourth period might be interesting as it indicates regier will not trade for rental players Sabres will not get rentals It suggests that the sabres are shopping Connolly who might be interesting for columbus which just lost brassard.

That looks like a really classy publication.

Connolly would be a good pick up for the Blue Jackets with Brassard being out.

The fourth period was shady when it started, but it has become big over the last year and a half. They broke several trades last year at the deadline and also were first to report several UFA signings. They also have a pretty good staff now and have traveled with a NHL team, on their charters to Europe (i believe they went to Columbus) on a all paid trip. And they have a magazine out now.

First Vanek for anything other than a first round pick a current decent player and a good prospect is worthless. Second our favorite trading partners San Jose have 4 amazingly skilled centers, Marleu (yes ik he plays wing too) Thorton, Pavelski, and Couture. What if we trade them Connolly and a 2rnd or later pick for pavelski or even maybe couture. We need a strong agressive center Because even with roy we are weak in the middle. Lets throw down and trade for a guy who is still young and plays well. He would definately be a better option then connolly or hecht. Granted SJ would have to be willing to trade and idk if they would be but we need to focus on teams with strong centers and find one. FA is going to have some slim pickings and I dont think the sabres could trade for a high enough draft pick to get a starter for next year. What do you think? Pavelski for Connolly and 3rd or 2nd pick?

I think the NHL would have step in and void the trade while Doug Wilson gets rushed the hospital. Giving up Pavelski for Connolly and a pick is a clear sign of a stroke.

I can see Connolly maybe heading to Pittsburg or Boston for a pick. Connolly has certainly not done the Sabres any favors with his play this year.

ESPN had a blurb about the Hawks being interested in Montador.

What is your problem with it? It isn't produced on a mimeograph with purple ink and it doesn't smell like Elmer's glue? It seems to be gaining respect among hockey fans.

The blond about to pleasure herself cheapens it for me. Do they need to lure an audience with stuff like that? (And it tells me they lack business sense; a good share of their potential audience is women/families/kids. They're going to be turned off by it. It's near pornographic.)

It works for me when I have my annual yard sale.

Nah, she's just looking good for me...ah crap, I see your point. I HATE to see your point on this one, because she is scrumptious, but I do see it.

There's also an ad for hip implant recalls (I am not making this up). I'll bet that one caught your attention first (I'm not making that up, either).

Of course you have to factor in their contracts but in some ways connolly's contract is more attractive to some teams because in 3months hes gone or if you really like you can resign him.

Desperate teams are willing to trade a pick for a guy that could make them a better team.

This.

People underestimate the value Connolly will have at the deadline. There are good solid, cash strapped teams looking to add talent that will put them over the top. They WANT a rental, because the contract will be gone next year so it won't screw up their salary structure. On an already strong team, Connolly could be a good piece. He can dazzle with his skill on the PP, and is actually very solid on the PK despite how crappy he is defensively 5 on 5.

I'm not so sure Columbus is a team that will try to make a push for the playoffs though. Yeah, they're within reach, but there's a lot of teams between them and that 8th spot.

I keep hearing the Sabres are interested in Wheeler from the Bruins. ANd On the TSN sight it says the Bruins are trying to deal him to free up space to get Kaberle..Might be more to it than the normal bs...

Nope, it's the usual bs per chz in the trade deadline thread. Looks like Wheeler is a Thrasher.

So, now that the market has been set, Darcy can stir a little? This has to blow his mind, all this activity 10 days before the deadline.

I havent really cared much since 06 but since the new owner seems like he will have more than a passing fancy I am getting sucked back in. I should shut it down till it becomes official and he is THE OWNER, cuz until then Regier wont do squat unless he is forced to...I wouldnt mind punching him in the face if I ever met him:)

i still think the sabres will be far more active than usual this year.

Agreed, the deadline's not for another 10 days, let's hold off on the torches and pitchforks until then.

...but... but... "deals are very hard to come by." (said in typical Darcy monotone)

:censored:

It's hard to make trades in the NHL....

Curious and serious - what makes you say this? Other than dumping Connolly and maybe moving Montador, I really don't think anything of any significance will take place. Absent moving a guy like Staff or Pommers, we aren't getting anything of any significance back. I just don't see Darcy getting all Burke like just because Pegs is in town.

Not to pick nits, but dumping Connolly,.. is significant.

the thread title is misleading.... buyers sellers or same old sabres?

Exactly, when can we ever say that with Regier at the helm, the Sabres have actually been "Buyers" or "Sellers"?

he will make a couple of minor, "Blue light special" moves in the clearance isle of the league and then hold a presser at the end talking about how there just weren't any deals to be made this year and how they all like the direction the team is going in and how players are expected to pick it up for the stretch run now. He will also say that he was shocked at the market this year and how things went down.

The Trade deadline as a Sabres fan is like a welfare christmas in an upper class suburban neighborhood. All the other kids/teams fans are running around showing off all their new toys/players "Santa"/their teams GM brought them, while the poor kids/Sabres fans sit at hope trying to look excited and happy that their parents/Darcy Regier got them Socks and Underwear
