HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA your little kid jokes are all so original and funny!!

Come on man, I actually really enjoy reading your posts. Some optimism on this board is nice. It's a welcome change and keep up the fight against the dark side....cough you know who you are. But please be respectful on here, that's all that I ask.

I think they both wind up in Portland on PTOs, although I'm not sure how Kassian having an actual contract effects that (he did sign a deal with the Sabres, right?). I'm sure it probably sounds cheap, but there isn't much reason to have them playing enough at the NHL level where they'd activate the first year of a contract. Let them get their first taste of professional hockey down in the AHL just like Adam last year.

Don't think Kassian needs a PTO, as I believe he is already signed. I'm not sure what the game limit is to trigger the first year of their contract but doubt what is left of the season after juniors is enough to do it. They could very well stay in Portland until Portland is done playing, but the Sabres also have a history of taking advantage of the expanded roster limits for the post season. Hopefully we will get to find out the answers to these questions in a couple months.

I have a feeling that Portland may not go very far in the post season, as I think the Sabres will have a couple roster spots to fill before too long.

And yes, I realize I am doing a lot of guessing and surmising here with respect to the contract trigger and games played. Someone knows this stuff cold. I thought it was you. Chz?

10 games is the limit.

As far as Portland having spots to fill later in the season, that's what the Kassians, Folignos, and McNabbs of the world are for. Let them get their professional playoff experience down at that level.

No. He drives a Buffalo News truck. This way when the cop asks him what all the pained noise coming from the back is, he just tells them I'm reading the sports section.

I heard that Paul Hamilton was the last cut from the 1972 Olympic paper delivering team - Bob Costas beat him out. If it wasn't for that damn Costas, Hamilton would have won Olympic Gold, and been a national play by play man for Gretzky's entire career

Do playoff games count as part of the 10?

I want to say they do, but don't quote me on that one. When we're talking about that short of a time with the team, we're probably flirting with not even being playoff eligible in the first place.

Here is another way to measure record: pct of potential points earned (since 1/1/11):

MON .700 (21/30)

TPA .647 (22/34)

NJD .647 (22/34)

BOS .647 (22/34)

WAS .625 (15/24)

PIT .593 (19/32)

TOR .583 (21/36)

CAR .583 (21/36)

FLA .500 (18/36)

ATL .450 (18/40)

Now if only there was a way to make Oct-Dec games not count towards the overall standings. :nana: Sorry, but I had to bring this thread back to earth. :)

Is Foligno even signed? IDT he could play in Portland before being signed.

That's exactly what I'm talking about for guys like him and McNabb. They sign a PTO (or maybe an ATO, I always get those mixed up) specifically with Portland and then finish out the year there. That's what anyone Buffalo signs after the junior/college season winds up doing.

PTO's are for 25 games, but the player can be released before that. He can also be signed to a second PTO, but after two PTO's he either becomes a free agent or is signed to a SPC - standard players' contract (also just called an "AHL contract").

Another type of contract in the AHL: ATO = Amateur try-out contract

These are signed by previously amateur players -- graduating college seniors and players finishing juniors. There is no set number of games on these. Either way he can't play in the NHL without a SPC (NHL contract).

Tampa would blow Buffalo out in a 7 game series. I watched that whole game last night and Tampa dominated much of it. Lindy had the defense gambling all night just to try and keep pace. Roloson and Downie lost their #### and the team had a meltdown and said F-it.

I agree with this. Tampa owned Buffalo for much of this game. The number of odd man rushes was dizzying. Kudos to Buffalo for thwacking them once Tampa lost their composure, but there is no way THAT Buffalo team in the first two periods last night wins a seven game series against THAT Tampa Bay team in the first two periods.

It probably was the most entertaining game of the season so far. I want more..

The point is how their playing now. Yes it all counts but would you rather be a team rising at this point or falling?

I'm still of the opinion that the Sabres could only be sellers at the deadline. One week of ownership is not enough time to make new contract decisions. That's if it even gets settled as predicted on the 22nd.

Even if they move Rivet, Grier, Neids, and Connolly; I don't think this would mean the season is over. Taking their places in the lineup would be Adam, Mancari, & Gerbe (once Kaleta is healthy, Nathan sits). I did not include Rivet's spot as he doesnt play.

Fixed. At least that is what I would expect to happen.

Sabres are going to be a "Sit on your ass and do nothing" team as the deadline approaches, then make a WTF trade right at 3 o'clock. Matt Ellis for Joe Schmoe, in other words a trade that doesn't hurt or help our chances at the playoffs or future success.

I'm afraid the Sabres will again overestimate their playoff chances and dip into the rental market again. Regier's rentals have been massive failures over the years. Even if they make the playoffs, I give them only about a 10% chance of getting past the first round (v Flyers)

As a result, I would be a seller and try to look forward to a re-built team next year under a new owner. Maybe the Sabres can entice other teams to give up draft picks for some of the Sabres unimpressive UFA's. This would be a refreshing change.

I guess the Devil's should start printing playoff tickets.

The Sabres are playing well. They have gotten some breaks and earned the rest. Their .700 percentage of points earned has only gotten them to 10th place.

That aside, any playoff chances may come down to the three games against Carolina and the two against the Rangers.

If the Devils were 4 points out like the Sabres I'd say yeah. Keep up the positive vibe.
