Eleven Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 You clearly don't have NHL Center Ice. Most of the broadcasts around the league are ****ing terrible. Ten years ago, I would have agreed with you. But RJ is a caricature of himself, Harry Neale is no Jim Lorentz, and some of the other broadcasters have gotten better.

I sort of do. Back to his roots. The hoopla surrounding May Day and eventually going on TV changed him. He had "Here come..." at the ready and then there was the terrible "Believers' bandwagon." He should never be thinking about what he's going to say. Despite what some say about his being so modest, maybe he likes the hoopla, who knows. Harry's jokes are all old and worn out. Some of them are funny though. When he roasted Lindy, he said Lindy just went to the doctor for his annual checkup. The doc asked for a urine, stool and ###### sample, so Lindy handed the doc his underwear. Edit: ##### = s emen. Really? Wow.
nfreeman Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I watch a ton of games online. I think the Sabres broadcasters are middle of the road at best. I agree, but my comment was more to the effect that although Rick and Harry are IMHO pretty good, as is the overall TV production, most of the other announcers and overall productions are about as good, and some are definitely better. I think there are only a handful that are noticeably worse. Ten years ago, I would have agreed with you. I also think he knows the game better than Jim did. (I liked Jim's personality and interplay with RJ, but I didn't think he added much in terms of game analysis.)

(I liked Jim's personality and interplay with RJ, but I didn't think he added much in terms of game analysis.) I generally disagree. Lorentz was really good, had an excellent interplay with RJ and he was very analytical, but at the same time a fan of the Sabres, which is what the home commentators should be, they are not paid to be objective like TSN, CBC, Versus, and NBC Analysts. I really miss Lorentz and I think RJ is still one of the best in the business. Neale is terrible and he often does not know what he's saying. I think there are some broadcasters that are pretty good, especially the Dallas Stars. Reaugh and Strangis are probably the best in the game. Jim Hughson is pretty good, but I'm not a fan of TSN, Bob Cole, and all those folks. Mike Lang's not bad, but Bob Errey is really good and I like him. I generally like Billy Jaffe as a color guy, but the PBP is not great for the Islanders. Sam Rosen is really good, but I really liked him with Davidson, I'm not a fan of Joe Micheletti. Of course nothing is as unwatchable as the NESN tandem of Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley except for maybe Carolina with John Forslund and that other dude who's terrible. I lived in DC for a while, and I will tell you, I hate Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin. They are absolutely terrible. I'm not a huge fan of Sylvester doing PBP, but he's not bad. RJ's son was absolutely horrible, so I would be okay with Sylvester permanently replacing RJ if that happened. That's my take.
