bunomatic Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 dude comeon shooutouts are completely different than regulation. Dude come on I said 'quality of goals' which means I was referring to the skill displayed on those goals. I'm fully aware that shootouts are vastly different than the game.
mrjsbu96 Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 For once the team bailed out Miller. Anybody else watch the NESN broadcast? The guys complain about the refereeing more than Democrats and Republicans complain about each other. Big time whiners. If my only choice was to follow the game online through a GameCenter/SabreSpace or watch on NESN, I would choose GameCenter/SabreSpace. Jack Edwards is an absolute baffoon. I understand home broadcast will probably be partisan, but they are just unwatchable...
NowDoYouBelieve Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Stafford with 9 goals in his last 9 games. Wowza.

nobody Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 MJ is on a completely different level technically. He gets all the details in; better maybe than even his dad. Sylvester just sounds better. Hopefully, with all the people in the world, the Sabres can find someone who is pretty good in both regards. What I think would help MJ is a good sound board person - turn the mic up during the normal play be play but then turn it down when the expected vocal increase happens.
bob_sauve28 Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I honestly don't think Sylvester is THAT bad. A little excitable on the goals, but I've heard worse. Ya
SwampD Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 What I think would help MJ is a good sound board person - turn the mic up during the normal play be play but then turn it down when the expected vocal increase happens. Or just have Sylvester do the games.

So now you're telling me what I was thinking when I wrote my post. Come on who are you really? Edgar Casey. I was talking about the skill shown on those shootout goals which is a direct correlation to the players having the ability to score skillful goals. ,and you do see these awesome goals in the shootout. And at times during the games but rarely by the sabres.

Their skates still need to be sharp genius! Do you think, toilet?
SwampD Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I gotta hand it to Sylvester. I thought he did a great job. It's even more impressive knowing that he has not done a game yet this year. MJ does the Pirates games so at least he's in practice. So for one game at least, I don't hate him. I'll wait until after the next 3 games to decide if I could listen to him for a whole season.
JJFIVEOH Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Is anybody else getting a little sick of Miller's excuses?

The one thing I was hoping with KS doing play by play was that it meant I wouldn't have to hear him in his usual times - but he was there for every moment.
johnyvegas Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 That was, by far, the most fun I've had watching a game this season. I was on my feet for the shootout. From the moment they backup up Pominville after he got knocked down after he scored, to the slo-mo bench shot replay of the guys cheering, fired up for the win, this team looked like they had some heart tonight. I'm still pumped. Also, throwing my vote in for Sylvester. I thought he did a great job tonight. MJ knows his stuff but was a snooze, then a spaz, then a snooze again.
Cereal Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 HAPPY DREW YEAR Sylvester has a good voice for play-by-play. Not sure if I didn't just like him because it was a familiar voice. And yeah, that was some fun hockey to watch!
Cereal Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I was going to mention this earlier, so that is to say I am not just riding the optimistic winds following a big win. I really thought that as soon as Roy went down for the seasonish, that was the icing on the cake -- no way we climb out of the hole and get into the top 8. However, every time I glance at the standings, it really doesn't seem so far-fetched that we make a run. We're within 10 points of all the 5th through 8th seeds. Say we win string four or five wins together, we could be right in the thick of things. Plus, only ONE of those 5th through 8th seeds needs to drop out. Just thinking out loud I suppose.... Disclaimer: Don't get your hopes up! I'm just sayin'......
Skibum Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Everyone please bag me without mercy. I watched the Winter Classic tonight, opting to take my mind off the Sabres for a while, and it looks like I missed the game of the year! Amazing to see that the guys who were supposed to step up actually did so for once.

Disclaimer: Don't get your hopes up! I'm just sayin'...... While they could make a run, as there is still a lot of hockey to be played, 10pt is a lot to make up. When teams in that 5-8 spot play each other and go to over-time, it just puts us in a deeper hole each time. The statistics for Sabres this year are ugly if you start to look indepth stats, such as against starting goaltenders or against top 6 teams of each conference. Some of those stats are brutal. Despite not being good enough to make the playoffs, i do think they are good enough to hang in there for the next 42 or whatever games and give people hope but at the same time ruin our draft position. This team seriously would need to get a top 5 pick. Get a star player to go along with our youth and Pegula's money.
JujuFish Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 KS wasn't too bad but to say I'm grateful he wasn't calling a game against Philadelphia would be an understatement.
Two or less Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Back to the game, despite him not playing well almost all year, and in a game which featured very little defense, i think Shaone Morrisonn played by far his best game as a Sabre. He had a big hit early in the game, he hit Chara later in the game and was a game high plus 3. He just seemed quicker and make better decisions out there.
deluca67 Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 A great way to start the year. A reminder that hockey can be fun to watch. Play by play? Next! If KS, MJ and PH are the best this area has to offer than it is clearly time to start searching elsewhere. Complaining about the Bruins announcers? I would love to have the quality of a Jack Edwards brought in to do the Sabres play by play. I don't see the point of dressing Rivet and sitting Butler. Butler should be part of the future here in Buffalo. Rivet is clearly not. Sekera and Weber have been solid. Along with Myers and Butler they should be a solid top four in years to come. Stafford? He is a RFA so I wouldn't be interested in giving him a long term deal. I would rather he hit the open market and take the compensation in return. Some other team will look at his hot streak and overpay. The Sabres need to take advantage of that teams foolishness. Neids, Grier, Gaustad and Hecht? Wow! It is one thing to not be playing well it is another to actually being a detriment to the team. Which is where they are now. Neids and Grier will probably (or should) retire at the end of the season. A team may take Gaustad because of his size even if he continues to refuse to use it. Hecht is here for another year. No team is going to pay him $3.5 mil. The Sabres are stuck with him.

Using the word quality when talking about Jack Edwards just makes me giggle. He is terrible. I bet the people of boston would take KS. I guess familiarity breeds contempt, because if KS was brought in from somewhere else, you'd be drooling all over him Is there really compensation for losing an RFA? I thought that meant they just had the opportunity to match the offer.

I'd be surprised if anyone offered him a huge contract AND gave away draft picks. But ya never know I guess it will be up to the new management.
