That Aud Smell Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I'm not talking about hockey IQ. From all I've seen, he has that. I'm talking about his every day IQ here. And amazingly, it's not a BC thing at all. They pretty much always have a bunch of intelligent guys out there, but he wasn't one of them. fair deuce.

shrader Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 What do you know about his "everyday" IQ? We've been through this on this board several times now. On top of first hand accounts, it was very well documented back when BC brought him in that they had to pull some strings to make sure he passed met their academic standing.
That Aud Smell Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 What do you know about his "everyday" IQ? come to think of it, i'm thinking back to a scotch-fueled reflection that i head second-hand from a guy by the name of bill hassett (you may recall that the bruins are owned by a buffalo concern (with which hassett was associated)) about one raymond bourque. the person from whom i head the story heard it straight from the guy's mouth. hassett was reported to have said that bourque was, in his estimation, the dumbest hockey player he had ever met -- a true dunderhead, a proverbial box of rocks. (by way of disclaimer, bourque was in the cup finals with the avalanche at that time, so there may have been some sour grapes at play). in any case, any such mental deficiency didn't seem to slow down #7/#77 in his nhl career.
X. Benedict Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 GERBE is benched tonight. GERBE needs to find his inner :pirate:.

From my encounters with his son Chris during his one year at BU, I can completely buy this story. His kid was the dumbest player I've seen out here.

Einstein failed seventh grade algebra.
Patty16 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Einstein failed seventh grade algebra. Urban legend. http://www.time.com/time/2007/einstein/3.html he didnt. Gerbe is dumb. But so are a lot of players, doesnt mean they cant excel at sports
SwampD Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 to the contrary (if your first post is any indication). welcome! we've been saying the same thing about gerbe for some time now -- his speed and quickness are more rumored than real (at least at the nhl level). ennis, otoh, is mad quick and has good (not great) speed. lindy called ennis "greasy" during last year's one-and-done -- i think that's the perfect word for how he gets around on the ice. I'm not sure about this. I've seen Gerbe catch people on the backcheck when I thought there was no way he would. He's definitely not as quick with the puck as Ennis, although I think some of Ennis' quickness is wasted energy. I see Ennis always being a second or third line guy, thriving against lesser Dmen and on the PP with more open ice (ala Briere), which would be great. As to him (or anyone) being dumb, I prefer my dumb people playing sports, as opposed to doing my taxes or performing surgery on me. I just don't care as long as they help us win.
darksabre Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Robb Stauber. Robb Stauber is the man. He also owns one of the best goaltender highlight videos on youtube. I actually have a Robb Stauber goalie stick from the early 90s. It was my favorite stick to play with until I had to retire it recently. I'd post a picture but the image uploader seems to be on the fritz. He runs a goalie training school somewhere and his brother coaches UW Superior I believe. He's also on the US Bandy Team. Which is a squirrelly adaptation of hockey.
R_Dudley Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Urban legend. http://www.time.com/time/2007/einstein/3.htmlhe didnt. Gerbe is dumb. But so are a lot of players, doesnt mean they cant excel at sports Wow cool link but boy did that send me down a rabbit hole learning a lot of neat facts about Einstein and confirming my limited understanding of Quantum Physics. Now if only the theory for realtivity of space and time was solved to give me that 30 minutes back.

That Aud Smell Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 I'm not sure about this. I've seen Gerbe catch people on the backcheck when I thought there was no way he would. interesting - i hadn't noticed as much. I see Ennis always being a second or third line guy, thriving against lesser Dmen and on the PP with more open ice (ala Briere), which would be great. i think that's a terrific projection - let's hope it pans out that way. As to him (or anyone) being dumb, I prefer my dumb people playing sports, as opposed to doing my taxes or performing surgery on me. I just don't care as long as they help us win. very nice. and i do agree: the fact that he's a total chowdahead shouldn't preclude him from being an effective hockey player. the fact that he's 4'11", though, might.

Absolutely. There are plenty of dumb hockey players out there. It might have an impact on a guy trying to adapt his style of play though.
Stoner Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 It's funny. You always think the kids in your own family are smart. There isn't a Sabre whose intelligence I question. They're all pretty well spoken, at least.
Fire Lindy Ruff NOW Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 this dude has skill. the sabres should at least give him a full year in the majors. sending him down to the ahl is only going to hurt his confidence and make him regress. give him an honest shot for a whole year then bag him. off topic but i think it was ridicolous how we got rid of zubrus, bernier and torres after what like 20 games at the most? thats just stupid. those guys had potential and it would have been cool to see them on the team for at least a whole year.
shrader Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 gerbe NEEDS TO FIND HIS INNER :pirate:. If that capitalizing the name thing is really going to catch on, I think my edit of your post is far more appropriate.
donteatyellowsnow Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 You know as crazy as it sounds, Ruff needs to put Gerbe back with Vanek and Roy. Going back to the Columbus game and the 5 games that Vanek/Roy/Gerbe were a line( not sure if Gerbe was with them for the Columbus game). Vanek was 5gp-7pts and a -1 Roy was 5gp-5pts and a -1 Gerbe was 5gp-2pts and a +1 and the team was 16 goals for and 10 goals against Now in the 3 games since Gerbe has been benched Vanek is 3gp-0pts and a -3 Roy is 3gp-4pts and a -2 and the team is 6 goals for and 11 goals against Gerbe may not have been getting points but his linemates were and things as a whole were clicking better. I dunno but I think Gerbe should be back on the Vanek/Roy line.
inkman Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 As long as Neidermeyer isn't on that line.

Weave Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Good post. Gerbe is back on the line with Roy and Vanek, according to the News. If Luke Adam repalces Connolly, who sits to make room for Gerbe? *hopes its Neidermayer*
korab rules Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 If Luke Adam repalces Connolly, who sits to make room for Gerbe? *hopes its Neidermayer* He would be a likely target - its not like it will hurt our offensive firepower. The likely odd man out will come from the 4th line, so according to today's lineup its Nieds, Grier or McCormick. McCormick is very unlikely to come out of the lineup. I could easily see Grier taking a seat. He has looked like ###### for several weeks now. Maybe he needs to work on his agility with Rivs. They can rub ben-gay on each other and tell stories of their glory hole days in San Jose.
carpandean Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Vanek was 5gp-7pts and a -1 Roy was 5gp-5pts and a -1 Gerbe was 5gp-2pts and a +1 ... Vanek is 3gp-0pts and a -3 Roy is 3gp-4pts and a -2. To be fair, you should add "Stafford is 3gp-3pts and a -3". The Columbus points were all on the PP, too. Of course, so were most of the 3 that Stafford just got, but Vanek and Roy were in on them (Vanek should have unofficial assists on both of them for net presence.)
carpandean Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 If Luke Adam repalces Connolly, who sits to make room for Gerbe? *hopes its Neidermayer* Maybe Gerbe was just holding the spot for Adam.
