Hawerchuk Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Where the hell did Pittsburgh get all this money to sign everyone? Now they just got Jocelyn Thibault from Chicago for $3mil. Weren't they just as hurting financially as the Sabres? Suddenly all these players are getting tons of cash! Whats up with this?
Corp000085 Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I think they had very little signed under the cap. Plus, maybe the ownership allowed the GM to spend up to the cap limit, as opposed to the sabres who seem to want to hold the line $5 million under the cap. The pens suddenly are a team to deal with. I honestly don't see much of anything from crosby this year, but they have made some other additions to bolster their lines.

Three of the 13 don't have their salary included. What money?????????

Weren't they just as hurting financially as the Sabres? Suddenly all these players are getting tons of cash! Whats up with this? Everybody was so misinformed about the Penguins situation it's not funny. But basically, this is the situation.... The Pens WERE in financial trouble a few years back during and shortly after Lemieux came back and they made the Eatern Conference Finals. The thing that sucked for Pens fans was that they had to start seriously cutting player salaries and dumping players. They did this and got the ship righted. They actually pared salary so much that they made money. They bit the bullet and got themselves back in good shape. Now, they only had very little money committed to current players. They also have excitement brought back by the new collective bargaining agreement. Then, they got lucky and their kids played well at the end of the last season, they got a very good player in Malkin and then landed Crosby. Management then said they would up payroll as soon as the lockout ends. The thing is, the Pens had so little money committed to payroll, they had no choice but to spend more money. The Pens were one of the only teams to prepare for the lockout and it worked to perfection. Whether or not they got Corsby made no difference, the Pens were going to sign alot of Free Agents regardless. And they are supposedly looking for more. The only that didn't work out was them getting Alexi Kovalev. Craig Patrick nailed this lockout perfectly. I can't wait for the season.
