Terry Pegula buying the Buffalo Sabres discussion

Er, Scotty is Senior Advisor for Hockey Operations for the Chicago Blackhawks. He works with his son Stanley, the GM and likes it. I think it would take a lot to lure Scotty back to the Sabres. A lot.

There are plenty of good hockey people out there with ties to Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Philly. Those seem to be the 3 cities in Pegula's wheelhouse.

Scotty Bowman regrets not having won a Cup for Buffalo. If he is on the radar, he may want to rewrite that last chapter. I don't know how much he wants of a day to day grind though. Again, with Pegula you can afford to go top notch on your scouting, advisors, and facilities. You just have to be careful about too many chiefs.

Even when we get $10 million in cap space next year when we let our UFAs go (I hope), take a look at this list and pick a star forward that you'd sign to come here outside of Brad Richards, Simone Gagne or Jamie Langenbrunner, who I think would be all great. I'm not impressed by this list. If we could sign an RFA like Parise on top of someone like Richards, then we're cooking, but I'd like to hear what top 3 forward you think we could realistically get in here that would make an immediate impact assuming Pegula takes over and loosens the purse strings.

That list needs updating before it's useful. Some of those guys have re-upped or been traded.

It's not just about a superstar, it's about picking role guys with upside and grit. How about Max Talbot? He seems to thrive in the playoffs. If you are going to let Connolly walk and still want a risk/reward play....Justin Williams in LA plays with spunk and is a top 6 forward. I'd rather take a chance on that. I haven't seen much of Langenbrunner, but historically I love his game.

I would like to see a team built in the scope of the USA olympic group. Not tons of world beaters, but solid guys that can move, hit, are smart, and can chip in 15-30 goals. If the right FA is out there to throw giant cash...sure, but you may have to find your leaders through trade. Guys like Gaustad and Stafford may be salvagable if you have guys around them that will show the way.

Actually, i once read Scotty was ready to walk away from Chicago to give his son more freedom as he feels it's his toy. It was during last years playoffs i forget where i saw it. Also, doesn't Scotty still live in Buffalo?

As for other candidates, i think Craig Patrick will be considered, since his resume is top notch and him working for Pittsburgh for so many years, i'm sure Pegula must know him.

Hey, Tim Connolly is available! We should grab him before someone else beats us to him!! :w00t:

Let the dreaming begin.

I'll take David Backes and Justin Williams thank you very much. And as someone else mentioned, Talbot would be a nice addition as well. Add one of Kassian/Foligno and I think you'd have one hell of a facelift to the forward corps.

Gonna take more than 3 forwards to right this ship

Darcy is already in negotiations with him for an extension.

Negotiations are already done. He is just waiting until the trading deadline to announce so there will be another alleged standing ovation in the dressing room. Right after the announcement they will take another alleged vote to keep Craig Rivet as Captain.

Holy ####!

Can I get you some hydrogen peroxide and gauze?

Those must be some pretty nasty scrapes you have from diving off the bandwagon you were so studiously driving a few weeks ago.

No sh!t. 2 weeks ago I was waiting for a big manifesto style post and a demand that the mods delete his account cuz we're all too damned dark and dreary for him. And now I'm not negative enough. :P

Welcome to the jungle Jack.

Wrong. Lindy's been preaching this his entire tenure here and what has it gotten him. It's all about the superstar. Other than the goalie, Buffalo has never been able to keep their superstars, and even those they let go. Roll four lines my a$$. How about rollin' one that scores.

No...Buffalo has Superstars....Vanek, Pominville, Miller and Connolly account for 40%+ of the salary cap.

Of those, Miller is the only superstar.

You get a half a gold star! :clapping:

To get the other half I'll say that even though Pominville may be overpaid for what he does on the ice, he earns that money many times over for the number of jerseys he sells to the female fan population.

Did you know the only difference between a gold medal and silver medal is that they coat a silver medal in 1/5 ounce of gold then call it a gold one?

That's a freakin ripoff!

Just like seats for a Gold Level game at HSBC.

Said that about 4 months ago.

I'm pretty sure that if you earn either, you know the difference.

Scotty lives in Sarasota FL during the winter months. I've talked to him here and there if I go down to visit my folks once in a while.

Manifestos demanding the deletion of your account? That's Dwight Drane's game. ;)

That sounds before my time. And highly entertaining. I hope there is a link for this?
