lalalalalaFontaine Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 no questioning his heart, but hearts of midgets do little in the world of professional sports...especially on a team full of midgets, and heartless "big" guys. really liked what i saw from collin stuart the other night. time for the shrimp to be sent back down
Weave Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I don't think Gerbe is the problem. But he's not the solution either. He's a fringe NHL'er. IMO that's all he'll ever be. Good kid. Works hard. But the Sabres need more than that out of their players. I don't think he's an experiment. I'd bet that management prefers that he soesn't have to play up here. But it's not like there are viable alternatives immediately available.
inkman Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I thought Stuat looked exactly as advertised, AHLer.
lalalalalaFontaine Posted November 27, 2010 Author Report Posted November 27, 2010 i agree that he is not the problem with them, but i do believe that regier see's him as a long term solution. he loves these little guys. no reason why kassian should not have been on roster this year.
lalalalalaFontaine Posted November 27, 2010 Author Report Posted November 27, 2010 I thought Stuat looked exactly as advertised, AHLer. and i wasn't saying that stuart was the second coming of gretzky, but he at least got himself in position several times for scoring opportunities. and granted, they all went over the net, but gerbe can't survive in those areas.
inkman Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I never jumped onthe Gerbe bandwagon but in my novice opinion, he aint hurtin em.
nobody Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I thought Gerbe was going to get a chance to skate on a scoring line but I keep seeing him on a checking line.
SwampD Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I thought Gerbe was going to get a chance to skate on a scoring line but I keep seeing him on a checking line. Didn't know we had a scoring line.
nobody Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Didn't know we had a scoring line. Maybe I should have put it in quotes. :)
inkman Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I think the posters who are being most vocal about Nathan are most likely the ones who had unrealistic expectations of our little mighty might.

If by unrealistic expectations you meant "making a top 2 line as a regular and contributing accordingly", you're right. But he's a small skill guy who doesn't have the attributes to play anything other than a scoring role. SO I don't see top 2 line LW as unrealistic. It is what he has the skill set to do. I've only been on this forum since the start of the season so I have no idea what folks here said of him last year, but I can't say I've seen any evidence of expectations beyond barely making the team in the threads on this site. I'm not sure where you see the unrealistic expectations.

sabres1970 Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I know a lot of people have compared him to Briere, but even he has at least two inches on him. I like Gerbe a lot and I give him credit for getting this far, but his size just won't work.

Meathead Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 lmao briere could be six inches tall for all it matters to his game just stop with the size stuff, it doesnt necessarily matter at all for a skill player. they have to score. period. nobody expects them to grind in the corners or take a beating screening the goalies. they flit around, avoiding contact, and get points with speed and skill. you can be any size if you do that gerbe isnt doing it. thats why hes ineffective, it has nothing to do with his size

When Kris Versteeg is bullying you off the puck you might be too small for the league. Gerbe is strong on his skates but when other small players are taking you off the puck your effectiveness is diminished. IMO alot of Gerbe's ineffectiveness comes from his inability to overcome his lack of size. Ennis hasn't had the problem with it that Gerbe has. Then again, Ennis is bigger than Gerbe too.
