korab rules Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 A semi-well known blogger suggested it. I'm not posting link. It would b ok w/ me though. Blake is struggling in ANA, vet for a vet, new scenery 4 both. Same salaries, Blake's got one more year than Rivet. We've got Butler and Weber... Yeah, but do we really need another forward when everyone is healthy? I would much rather see Adam than another former forty goal scorer try to re-find his game. If this is what it takes to get rid of rivet, so be it. We can always waive Blake when staff comes back and assign him to Portland if he clears. As to the gaustad for captain rumor, I wouldn't want him to captain my golf foursome, much less my hockey team. Roy seems to have finally matured, give it to him! Edit: just re read. Blake has one more year? Then no way. Not unless the sabres are going to start paying guys on one way contracts to play in Portland.

korab rules Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 FWIW (which probably isn't much) Read Me !! The more interesting part of that link, Weave, is the Iginla to Buffalo rumors. For staff, kassian and Connolly? That is pretty tempting.
spndnchz Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 After further comments from Lindy... Miller may start as soon as Thursday. Rivet just has the flu. http://sabres.nhl.com/club/podcastplayer.htm?pid=16&iid=25470

Stoner Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 After further comments from Lindy... Miller may start as soon as Thursday. Rivet just has the flu. I think this was discussed last season. I don't remember the answer -- hell, I don't remember if Dakota gave me my Colace at lunchtime. Don't these guys get flu shots?
Patty16 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 FWIW (which probably isn't much) Read Me !! Interesting even if just a tease. Even if we win the next few games i think this current roster has been exposed as a bunch of kitties who only sometimes show up.

Don't strain to hard you'll pop a roid.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Perception is reality. You've been attending those Larry Quinn seminars again, haven't you?

IMO that is too much for Iginla. He's 33 and his stats haven't been what they used to be. The big kicker for me is, I'd hate to lose Kassian for a guy who's tank is about empty (and still has a couple more years to go on his contract). I'd be OK with Staff and Connolly for Iginla. That would be a pretty even swap points AND salary-wise. Throw them one of our surplus D men I guess if we need to sweeten the deal.

wingnut Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 I was going to say some of the players need an OB/GYN for a doctor, but I think what they really need is the great and powerful Oz to hand out some heart and courage.

Agreed that the only thing we are really giving up is Kassian, and I would much rather throw 2 or 3 D-men in than Kassian. Iginla is exactly what has been missing from our roster since DB and CD walked out the door. We need players, not playas

There is NFW Calgary does that deal without a major sweetener -- and Weber or Butler (or any other defenseman on the roster not named Myers) isn't going to do it.
Patty16 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Id be ok with it, Iginla's numbers are solid, 30g's a year still. With Kassian we dont know what you are getting. He's big and physical without question. But he's not a top scorer in juniors now so unless he suddenly finds his touch i don't think we can assume with have the next big thing on our hands.

He does have 7 goals and 15 assists in 13 GP. That's 1.7 points per game, good for 21st in the Ontario Hockey League in total points and every player ranked ahead of him has played in more games. It's early in the season but he's sure scoring some points right now.

It's early in the season but he's sure scoring some points right now. In his two previous seasons he was below a point per game player with a -17 and -18 rating respectively. He's scoring this year, but he's 19 and playing against 17 yr olds too dont forget. I'm not saying he wont be a good player with scoring ability. Typically guys who are scorers in the NHL dominate the juniors. For example Iginla had 63 goals in 63 games - i know the comparison isnt necessarily fair.

While I agree that he may not be the next big thing (maybe, maybe not, in NHL terms), last I checked (a week or two ago, admittedly) he led his team in scoring and in his minor career he's nearly a point-per-game player, even with a ton of PIMs. To me that qualifies as a top scorer in juniors who doesn't need to find his touch.

In juniors he's a 0.8 pt per game player. I think he will be a useful player in the NHL. But he wont be a 30 goal scorer.

To be fair you did say that he's not a top scorer in junios NOW which is not necessarily true but it's a good point about his previous +/- as that's a bit concerning. My point was simply that he's found his scoring touch this year which is good to see. The age point you made is also valid.

Big diff playing against some 17 yr old when youre 19. basically college freshman vs some high school juniors age wise. He should be torching it.

Again, not necessarily disagreeing with your conclusion, but he leads (or led, I haven't checked recently) his team in scoring. So I think by definition he's a top scorer. And yes, he may be older than most, but he's heavy on the PIMs and he isn't necessarily supposed to be the primary scoring threat. His role in the NHL will certainly remove a heavy scoring expectation, but you can argue that the same is true for Windsor to a certain degree. So considering his role, both in terms of expectations and what he's delivered, I'd say that his point per game average is pretty good, and has gotten better and there's no loss (or need to find) his scoring touch.
