Kristian Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabres-nhl/article242509.ece Please note the "updated november 4th" tag at the top. I guess all he needed to do in order to write this piece was take another article, change some team names and numbers and it was ready to go, cause I swear to god - I've read every single line coming from the players and coaches a million times before. Talk is cheap.
inkman Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Vanek comes off, as usual, like a head case. He talks about hitting shots. How about the other 90% of the game there Tommy boy?
Kristian Posted November 5, 2010 Author Report Posted November 5, 2010 Vanek comes off, as usual, like a head case. He talks about hitting shots. How about the other 90% of the game there Tommy boy? There's more to the game than hitting shots then??!

Please tell me that you're not one of the people who has taken shots at Ruff for trying to make him that two way player. For Vanek, all that should matter is whether or not he's putting the puck in the net. So yes, it all about hitting shots for him.
bunomatic Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 At least Vanek didn't roll out the same old tired cliches. That one sounded new to me. Give him points for creativity. One of the worse thing that could have happened to the sabres as an organization and to Vanek as a player was Kevin Lowes offer sheet. The icing on the cake was Regier matching the offer simply out of principle.

It might not be a popular opinion, but Vanek IS NOT a top tier player, and I'm about 99% sure he will ever be one. He just doesn't have the ability to take charge and lead a team and is way to streaky to be considered a top player. It seems like he needs a couple of guys to play better then him on the team so he can hide back out of the spotlight and play on a 2nd line. He's not the kind of player you can build a team around
inkman Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 It might not be a popular opinion, but Vanek IS NOT a top tier player, and I'm about 99% sure he will ever be one. It's popular with me. At the end of last season I was ready to jump on the Vanek bandwagon. He really seemed to elevate his game but here we are and his game resembles the old mind ###### Vanek. I have no purpose for him on this team.

I don't need him to be Forsberg or Sakic but he should be more than a tip drill specialist.

Well obviously he needs to be somewhat responsible in his own end, but at the end of the day, his purpose is to create goals. Whether or not the team is scoring when he's on the ice should be 95% of his evaluation. Obviously he's failing on that evaluation right now.

If the team had any ability to clear a puck out of its own zone; I wouldn't care if they had Vanek skating around center ice waiting for the puck.
