X. Benedict Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 What does "solid fourth line player" even mean? I doubt that is Gaustad's goal. You said Gaustad couldn't become a "Lucic"? He started his NHL career being a "Lucic." "faceoffs" are nice when you have the other bases covered. To have a 6' 5' face-off specialist when this team is sorely lacking in the physical part of game is a joke. To try to excuse away Gaustad's sudden lack of testicular fortitude is bullzhit. Questions in order A) Really? a 4th line player? = a player on the 4th line B) Yep C) When? 2005? Sudden lack? I gotta tell you, I don't see much difference in his game. Maybe people project a fierceness not often exhibited. But Gaustad doesn't play with recklessness and never has. He's positionally sound and doesn't run around. But maybe we can compare Mike Grier to Cam Neely or something next? Gaustad's a physical player in a physical league. He's not a dominant physical force. But is strong on the puck and he is decent behind the net when he gets there, mostly he's at center and not playing the sidewalls much. Given his skill-set I would say he's more over-achiever than underachiever.
SwampD Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 I think Gaustad tries and has heart. More than almost everyone on the team, in fact. I just don't think he's very good.

I'm no hockey expert or anything, but he tries a bit, but it just doesnt work out because he's not anything special.
kishoph Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 That is as convincing of a argument as I have heard for Lindy's time with the Sabres to end. The last thing this team need sis a over-sized Brent Pederson. Gaustad was a dream come true when he first came to the Sabres. To see what he is now is heart breaking. Its' like the 49ers having Ronnie Lott who suddenly decides he wants to concentrate on long snapping. This is nothing unusual, what players have progressed under LINDY ? He's a cancer to any young prospect that comes onto this team.
