Says who? Lindy can bench whoever he wants, he just needs to grow a pair.

If you don't understand why you can't bench Myers then I'm not sure we can have a conversation.

Ink, don't kill me, but I think a game or two of watching from above wouldn't kill the kid.

not from me, I was constantly praising Lydman who I considered a very good player. I think the fact that they are European was a big factor in them getting a heap of criticism. This hockey city will probably want to run Sekera out of town next, small AND European! Off with his head!

I don't agree that Lydman is/was a very good player, but I agree with the rest of this post. The "Euros" definitely receive more criticism than the North Americans. FWIW, I think this is a league-wide phenomenon.

Benching is different than leaving out of the lineup. He has benched a lot of players over his tenure. Not dressing players is a different story. That is reserved for fourth liners, rookies and the 5th or 6th defenseman. That is where Ruff fails as a coach.

Except you don't bench franchise defenseman.

You can and you should. Locker room politics need to be removed from coaching decisions. You can't this this guy because of a 'C' or that guy because of his contract. When you sit what you consider one of your better players that really sends a message. Sitting the same fourth liners over and over again does nothing.

If it's for instructional/learning purposes, great but he should not be benched for poor play. He needs to figure it out.

Ok Inkman Ruff.

The kid has been a train wreck and it's getting worse every game. Leaving him in there is doing more damage to both the team and probably his own confidence. Take him out and give him a few games off to clear his head.

Quite honestly, I'd like to see him get a couple games down in Portland.

He would have to agree, though, right? Like LaLoss did last year? Any kind of requirement for an injury or inactivity? A conditioning assignment implies the player is not in condition at the time of the assignment.

Whether its a good idea or not, it's not happening.

rather than send the kid down or bench him, just give him a little less work to do in each game.

he went from being rookie of the year to being handed the reins to the whole team and being told ride it all the way to the Cup, and he's showed he's not ready for it yet. right now we have him as first defense pair, playing ridiculous minutes per game, power play QB, first choice PK unit, main man on every rush whenever he's on ice. i definitely see him being able to do this in a couple of years, but he's not there yet.

problem is, if we started dialing back some of what he's been saddled with, then who do we have to share that load? with the season swirling down the crapper, might as well open it up now and see if any one can step up? the PP is miserable, the PK is horrific, zone clearing right up there with last season.. and even worse this season we can't even hold leads going into the third period.

i really advocate starting to give other people a chance to do some of what Myers is being given to do, and see where it goes.

There is a big difference between coming into the year and surprising everyone by playing as a top D pair when you didn't know if you'd make the team and being TOLD you are the #1 D-man. Way too much pressure on a kid who is trying to get used to a new partner (two of them as it turns out) and is still very young. I don't think he should come out, either, and I'm sure Weber and Butler are itching to prove they can stick in the lineup so lets see what they can do.

No, i was wrong about the number of games someone had to play to be eligible for the waiver process. Thought it was 60, not 160.

It depends on how old they are when they sign. Younger=more game required

same thing with the brat pack.. when they first came up from the Amerks they were fantastic, because they created a lot of offense for being 3rd and 4th liners on the squad. It's only after the Briere-Drury fiasco that we learned that the brat pack didn't do so well when the heat was on and they were expected to carry the team, playing against the opposition's checking lines and best D-pairs.

THis is spot on to an extent. Roy and Connolly has consistly put up regular season points.

I think the fans' major beefs are that these guys dont produce great highlight reel plays or score clutch goals.

Disclaimer: i hate roy but its impossible to argue against his production.

Vanek's point production didn't go down the two years after the co-captains left, compared to the two seasons before. His plus-minus sure did, after that monster year in 06-07. Just sayin'. As for last year and this year, as someone else suggested, I think he's in "get me the hell away from this clown" mode.

Being asked to win a Selke, being put on grunt duty in front of the opposition net, having penalty kill time yanked away and having his ice time overall suppressed have finally worn the guy down, in all ways. After years with Ruff, he's a shell of what we all thought he could be.
