LeBrun: Sabres and Ducks talking trade

Two or less

But the Sens GM has worked the phones hard all week long, talking to "half the teams in the league," looking for a five- or six-type defenseman to no avail so far. While Murray refused to say, another industry source told ESPN.com that Anaheim is among the teams Ottawa has spoken to. The Ducks would like to add a puck-moving type on the back end; Ottawa would like to add a rugged, defensive blueliner type. I believe the Sens would like Anaheim to take Brian Lee off their hands, but the Ducks might have more interest in Chris Campoli. At this point there doesn't seem to be a fit between both teams.

The Ducks, by the way, have also been in talks with the Buffalo Sabres, another source said.

Anyone care to speculate?

If it isn't Bobby Ryan, Getzlaf or Perry I'm probably not interested. But come on, we all know it's Marchant that Regier is after. He loves the hometown heroes!

On Friday night, the final commercial break of both the second and third period came with 4:20 left. I thought of you.

Well, I guess you're not interested then, because there is NFW Anaheim is trading any of those 3.

Now this is a credibility-restoring post.

Just looking casually the Ducks seem to have a surplus of RWers while we are short one with Pommer on the shelf. Joffrey Lupul anyone?

He hasn't skated since December 2009. Doubt Sabres would want a guy who's such a major injury risk.

Besides their star players, the player who really impresses me most is Matt Beleskey. Whenever i watch the Ducks on CI he always impresses me. The reporters who cover the Ducks compare him to a Chris Kunitz, but whenever I watch him play i'd say he's very close to a Patrick Kaleta except more talented. He is a loose cannon with 20-25 goal potential. Not sure if Ducks would trade him, guess, it depends how much they would value a Butler or Sekera?

There are a lot of possibilities with that old Ducks roster--they've got to want to make some changes. Damn, six skaters 35 or older? Sabres have three. (Lalime doesn't count. Not a skater, and seldom plays.)

I dunno -- I look at that roster and aside from the guys that they are definitely not trading, the pickings look pretty slim. I don't think the Sabres will trade for another bottom-6 forward, so I think all that leaves is the Sabres trading a surplus defenseman for a draft pick. I suppose if they think Weber just isn't going to make it, they could trade him for a 3rd-rounder, which is likely to be a high 3rd-rounder, but that isn't terribly exciting.

I should have been much more specific: There are a lot of possibilities as to whom the Ducks might want to get rid of. I don't see a lot for the Sabres there, unless both teams are doing something drastic. Sorry about the confusion, there.

Not to be the stereotypical hippie stoner kid but I actually noticed that too both times and laughed haha. There was also a play stoppage in either the second or third on Saturday at 4:20 but I don't think it was a commercial break.

The ducks want a puck moving defensman, so they are talking to the Sabres why exactly?

Maybe they like Sekera, he has shown bright spots this year. He's also been awful at times this year.

Just to be clear -- I don't smoke the wacky weed and never have. A few years ago someone told me about the 420 references in pop culture, and when you start watching for it, it's pretty astounding. There's a cartoon feature to get kids in interested in science, and last year the illustrator put 420 in there. I wrote to him. He said he would reply further after finishing his bag of Doritos, but never did.

I dont think there is any legitimacy at all to this artcile because Ecklund hasnt said anything about it. He is THE source for ALL sabres news, especially concerning trades and such. If Ecklund doesnt report it, I dont believe it.

Isn't Lupul coming back? That might necessitate a move for Anaheim.

If they're making a trade because their roster is full, I don't see how that helps us -- our roster is pretty much full too. We have 8 defensemen and a logjam up front with Pominville coming back.
