wildcat48 Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 Pirates take the Checkers in victory against Charlotte Published on: 11th October, 2010 by Chris Roy Portland, ME – It’s only the second game of the season, but the Portland Pirates are beginning to look like a team coming together. Jhonas Enroth made 42 saves, and Parrish added a goal and two assists as the Pirates went on for the 5-1 victory over the Charlotte Checkers in front of 2,621 at a Columbus Day matinee at the Cumberland County Civic Center. wildcat48 Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 I don't know if he made demands... He was the logical choice for the Pirates. Parrish would be a close second, but he's wearing an "A".

Can you explain what purpose is served by giving guys who will never see the NHL again a 'C' or 'A'?

inkman Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Can you explain what purpose is served by giving guys who will never see the NHL again a 'C' or 'A'? It makes them feel better about their small weiners.
shrader Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 They blew the shutout with 10.6 seconds left? Hate when that happens.
Cereal Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 They blew the shutout with 10.6 seconds left? Hate when that happens. I felt like that happened to Miller a million times during like 05-06, 06-07 seasons.
nobody Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 It makes them feel better about their small weiners. They're in Maine - small lobster claws.
nobody Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 43 shots given up? Where's the defense?
wildcat48 Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 Enroth was a little frustrated with not getting the shutout, but he was happy with the bounce back game from Saturday's performance.... In regard the defense, it's thin, and the one weakness of the Pirates this season. It will improve as the season goes on, but they could use another hard-nosed d-man even once Gragnani returns, which could be within the next 10 days.
wildcat48 Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 Can you explain what purpose is served by giving guys who will never see the NHL again a 'C' or 'A'? Whether they'll play in the NHL is irrelevent.... The process for picking a captain was based on the players voting on who they wanted as captain. After the choice was made Dino voice his approval of the choice and it's Ellis. Last year was Brad Larsen, and the year previous was Tyler Bouck... neither went back to the NHL. You want somebody who has the experience and can help guide the prospects through the season's up's and down's...Somebody who will be vocal or will pull a player aside when needed. Ellis is good choice for captain.
wildcat48 Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 Schutz is gone... He's signed with Ingolstadt. Part of the deal is the Sabres agreeing to not qualify him during the summer. We'll see if that happens.
Sterling Archer Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 So is he still Sabres' property or not?
shrader Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Schutz is gone... He's signed with Ingolstadt. Part of the deal is the Sabres agreeing to not qualify him during the summer. We'll see if that happens. That's dumb. They should qualify him anyway. He doesn't have to sign it if he doesn't want to.
wildcat48 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 So is he still Sabres' property or not? For this season, but because he was loaned before the start of the season... he's ineligible to play for Portland.
wildcat48 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 Adam shows promise with strong start Published on: 13th October, 2010 by Chris Roy First impressions are lasting impressions for Portland Pirates forward Luke Adam, who is following the path of several former players who have made an impact on a franchise that’s in its 18th season. Ellis is good choice for captain. Can't he do all of that without the 'C'? The franchise needs to start developing players with Captain qualities. Why not use the Pirates 'C' for that purpose. Giving it to a player with no future is like the Sabres giving it to Rivet, it serves no purpose.
wildcat48 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 Couldn't the same be said for why give to someone who hasn't earned it yet.... Can't the qualities of being a captain be learned without wearing the "C"...?? Besides, it was never going to be given to prospect. It's never been given to a prospect. They need to earn it.
wildcat48 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 Pirates pack offensive punch while power play stumbles Published on: 14th October, 2010 by Chris Roy It’s only two games into the season, and the Portland Pirates have gotten off to a strong start, winning their first two games, but not everything clicking for the team. The issue with the Pirates is they’re still looking for their first power play goal of the season as they enter their first three-in-three weekend. Link>>>>

Eleven Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 I think the players' vote on captaincy is the way to go and should rarely, if ever, be disregarded.
shrader Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 We're putting too much value in here on that little bit of fabric on the front the jersey. Leaders are leaders regardless of whether or not they have a letter on their jersey. Giving the C to some kid isn't going to suddenly make him develop leadership qualities. You don't groom a leader, they figure it out themselves.
Sterling Archer Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Charlie Conway didn't need the C to be the leader in Mighty Ducks 3.
Sterling Archer Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Wow. Darcy seems to know how to build a team...that can't convert on the PP.
