bunomatic Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Another classic headshot by Torres in his first game back on Seabrook behind the net. Seabrook looked like he might have been 'out' momentarily. Torres gets 2 minutes. Seabrook doesn't leave for the 15 minutes in the dressingroom and continues to play and Torres hits him again clean ( though he did take about 10 hard strides before he coasted last 5 feet ). This time Seabrook leaves game. On the second hit which I feel was clean he skated in alot harder than Kaleta did on his which he received 2 for charging. Mmmmm?

Interestingly, Brad May seemed to think the first hit was a clean one: "@maydayhockey Brad May Brutal call for penalty on Raffi Torres. There was nothing wrong with that hit. Hawks score! We have a game!" http://twitter.com/#!/maydayhockey/status/59791282033266688
... Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Are you trying to imply the officiating in the NHL is inconsistent?

I'm not sure Brad May is the 'expert' to be making a judgement in this case.

Separately from that, why can't I have CBC announcers and HD at the same time? Dammit.

I'm not sure Brad May is the 'expert' to be making a judgement in this case. I didn't say May was an expert on League rules... I thought his willingness to be vocal on such an unpopular view was interesting because he's being paid to comment on the NHL by TSN, the Maple Leafs, and elsewhere... his mentality clearly hasn't changed from his playing days and it creates a bit of a schism from the "accepted" stance. Of course, he's not alone.

From the angle they showed from the front of the net it leaves little doubt but I'm sure others will say its clean. Thats fine.

rickshaw Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 This hit is perfect. The game is hard and tough. It's not for the faint of heart. Torres has been making that hit all his life. I have no issue with that hit. Why didn't Seabrook go for some quiet time is my question?

Dude, I know you don't like the Canucks, but come on. That hit is textbook hockey. Arm down, puck in the players feet, and Seabrook turned to face the hit as it was delivered. Say what you like, but if the Canucks get out of this round, and it's looking pretty good right now, look out. This team is the real deal.

I have no issue with that hit. Why didn't Seabrook go for some quiet time is my question? My question is why didn't Torres show the same passion with a sabres jersey on. I don't recall him making any of those hits in a sabres jersey or showing the passion or grit when he was here. The guy was a bum.
rickshaw Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 I think I'm on your side on this one. Seabrook turned into it. Boom. If that is gonna be a penalty every time, then the NHL might as well just make their league a shinny league going fwd. Honestly, that was such a beautiful hit. Seabrook went to play the puck, slightly missed it and got rocked.
Eleven Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Come on, Hawks. I don't want this over quickly.
Weave Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 I didn't see a good slo-mo to get a good look but I'm guessing that Torre's shoulder connected with Seabrook's head? I don't mind that hit but my gut tells me that is the kind of hit the NHL is specifically trying to get rid of. I'm thinking Torres doesn't play again until sometime in the next series, if that.

If Seabrook played it, it is clean. Hard to tell from this . I agree on Vancouver looking like the real deal. Just loaded.

I don't remember saying that in this conversation. We were talking about the Torres hit weren't we? Hell,I live in Canuck country here. Grew up watching them. Sabres have always been my team but the nuckleheads were always a close 2nd. Anyways, I should be able to have an opinion on the hit without letting any bias creep into the discussion. I feel it was a head shot. Thats my opinion. You have yours and thats fine. Allow me to have mine.
Eleven Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 (1) Torres can eff off. Where was that last year? It's not like you have to be in shape to hit. And I don't mean dirty hitting, I mean regular hitting. He's gonna sit for 5 now, because the previous 4 obviously didn't do a thing. (2) I hope it's ok with the post police if I criticize the officials in this non-Sabres game, because that trip on Campbell with about :40 left was ridiculous, and no call.
... Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 I'm alright with Vancouver taking this series. They play a good game.

Hard to tell from this . I agree on Vancouver looking like the real deal. Just loaded. There is no way Torres can stop that hit. He basically skated into him, that was it. He can't determine if Seabrook is gonna touch it. The puck was right there. That hit is awesome any time, any team, any game. IMO. 7 pps to 2 and the Canucks still win it. Impressive. All I know is, I want the Sabres to win the Cup, I just hope they don't go against Vancity. But if Buffalo goes down I really want my hometown to win it.

That hit was perfect. Not a thing wrong with it. Sorry. Seabrook skated right into it. I too am in Canuck country and they are the best team in this league. They may not win it all but they are the top team by far.

Seabrook earned the PP the hard way. I don't think it's dirty at all. I've been dreaming of the Vancouver-Buffalo final for years.
