deluca67 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Why? He's got a Cup-ready team, just with Kovy there. Kovi agrees. "He did a great job … we'll see, maybe he'll change his mind and come back next year," said a hopeful Ilya Kovalchuk. "We got word of his decision in a meeting before the game. He brought the team back and did a lot of good things for our organization. We have a team to make a run. He turned this thing around and the fans started coming back into the building and it was exciting."
JoDo Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 A luxury teams can't afford in the salary cap era. Especially when one has a $6 mil price tag. Are we still talking about this? So Miller had an off year, he was still better than many of the #1's in the league. Last year we complained about the team because Miller was the only reason they made it to the playoffs and this year it was a total team effort and we want to ship him out? Ludicrous in my opinion. Thomas averages 5 mil a year in Boston although they paid him 6 mil last year. Was he worth that then? Probably not. Was he worth it this year? Absolutely. It's just the way it goes. We have a top notch #1 who most likely will be better next year and a solid #2 (just what we've been asking for). Leave it alone for Pete's sake.
JoDo Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 From CBS Sports regarding the Avalanche game. David Jones says: "..In overtime, Duchene sent a shot that caromed away from Khabibulin, and Jones put it into the net with a backhander. "Duch made a great shot, it hit the goalie and hit me and landed right there," Jones said. "Duch set everything up." So Matt Duchene's nickname is "Douche"?? Couldn't they have called him Shaney or something of that nature?

Most teams that are in it have spent 5-7 million on their goalie tandem. You want a team with one guy who gets 30+ goals and is a minus -26. I get it.

And let's not forget that Enroth will be making less than $1 million for a few more years. His 2nd contract is going to be pretty cheap too.

spndnchz Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 How much did the two goalies that made the Finals last season make? You mean Chicago, the team that won? 6.4 million. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
thesportsbuff Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 You mean Chicago, the team that won? 6.4 million. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da ... no
deluca67 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 You mean Chicago, the team that won? 6.4 million. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da Antti Niemi made that much? I think you may be off a bit. Next thing you'll be telling me that Boucher and Leighton were big ticket goalies as well.
Derrico Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 You mean Chicago, the team that won? 6.4 million. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da Hahahhaha, if that's true then DeLuca you've got nothing else to say on the matter. Do your homework.

IDK if Enroth wins the cup, the Sabres still spent 7 million on goalies this season.
thesportsbuff Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 http://www.nhlnumbers.com/teams/CHI?year=2010 It surprised me, too. Nobody was talking about bench-riding backups like Huet.

Huet is another example why big ticket goalies are becoming a thing of the past. Thanks for helping me make my point.

There are, of course, teams that spend $6.7M on goaltending and don't get near the playoffs. Like this one: http://www.nhlnumbers.com/teams/NJD?year=2011

Huet is another example why big ticket goalies are becoming a thing of the past. Thanks for helping me make my point. So, of the 8 teams that got to Round 2 last year. Spending on goalies. Pitt 5.5 Montreal 3 Boston 8.2 Philly 2.7 SanJose 5.9 Detroit 2.1 Chicago 6.4 Vancouver 7.25 The bolded made it through. You think Philly could've won more if they didn't let it 6 or 7 goals in a few games. And where exactly am I insulting you that you need to have throw that in there?

Like this one: http://www.nhlnumbers.com/teams/NJD?year=2011 Spending $5.2 on a 38 year goalie is the price you pay for the Cups he won. Those Cups were in another era and I believe the Devils GM is well aware of that.

If you don't need big-dollar goaltending (and I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you), then it was a big mistake to spend that kind of cap space on Brodeur. Those geniuses in NJ have $12M+ tied up in a guy who is obsolete and a guy who is -26. That's one-fifth of their cap room. Brilliance? No. There's another $8M tied up in Tallinder and Volchenkov. That's a third of the cap on four guys, three of whom are questionable at best. If the Sabres did this, you'd be screaming for Darcy's head and you know it. You just don't want to admit it.

Tim Thomas never saw the ice in the playoffs for the Bruins. That leaves 3 of 8 teams playing big ticket goalies making it to round 2, Nabakov , Luongo and Fleury.

First of all, I'd take Volchenkov on the Sabres for $4 mil in a heartbeat. The Brodeur contract was signed back when it was "conventional wisdom" that goaltending wins Championships. As it turns out the contract is coming to an end at a time where goal scorers are the prime assets.
