A bit unrelated here...with Phoenix in a vulnerable spot, do you think that they might be a good trading partner this summer?

In particular, I'm thinking Ilya Bryzgalov...http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=2252

btw I'm thinking big changes this summer with the team dumping guys like Miller, Vanek and Stafford in some big trades.

He's a free agent at the end of the year, so Phoenix won't be moving him.

I'm guessing two of those names you mentioned were on Pegula's "no trade list" pre-purchase.

looks like a totally clean "attempt." and quite a good one, too. unfortunately, olver appears to dip his head right into mike's shoulder at the last second. devastating hit, but certainly not suspension worthy, imho.

Borderline? Yes.. Clean, No, Yes, No, I'm not sure... Intent to injure? Yes.... Will he be fined? No... I don't like those hits where you come in from the side.

I'm of the same mindset. I can't quite call it dirty, but it doesn't look clean either.

If you take the rule literally that was a blind side hit to the head. Dirty under the leagues 'new' interpretation. Add to that the victim never had possession of the puck. I don't believe the puck actually got to him before he was hit. There should be a suspension. Probably a short one.

This is pretty accurate, I think.

It did. Oliver swatted the puck out of the air, but it was definitely a blind side hit to the head. He should get whatever the minimum is.

And this.

I reluctantly agree. Clean.

At first I didn't think Olver played the puck, but he does, he picks it out of the air.

Devastating hit. Coming across the middle with your head down is asking for it.

Keep your head up, Olvy.

His head wasn't "down." He was looking back down ice for the pass and Komisarek hit him just as he turned his head forward.

I'm having trouble calling that hit suspendable. Mostly because I don't think Komi was specifically targeting his head. It was a very opportunistic hit at a guy who wasn't looking. And that makes it dangerous. But I'm not sure Komi was actually headhunting there.

Devils/Pens going to OT tied 0-0. Shots on goal in the 1st period was 3-1? Are you kidding me?

Pens win in shootout.

Right now, Carolina leads TB 2-1 with 14:34 left in the 3rd. :death:

According to sportsclubstats.com, the Hurricanes playoff chances went up 4.4% last night. I know they won but the team they are chasing also won, which means they are the same number of points behind with one fewer game to use to catch up. How did their odds increase?

Looks like Devils lost Volchenkov and Colins last night. Adam Mair played defense last night after Devils were down to three healthy D-men on bench.

Maybe Kovy could fill in on D because he is that good..........

They gained on the Rangers, who were idle.

It could also have to do with them winning a game they were 'expected' to lose.

Either way the stats are pretty hard to get right even with the "Chance" parameter they are adding to their site. I'm not knocking them at all, I love what they are doing and it's giving me different looks into what games are important for the Sabres, which I normally don't do.

Any which way, as stress inducing as it is for us to watch to see if the Sabres will continue to win or falter, I would hate to be a fan of any team in the west right now. That's a tight race.

I dont think it works that way.

Sure it does. They calculate the odds based on expected outcomes of each individual game remaining in the season, which requires assigning odds for every outcome of each individual game. For instance, perhaps the assigned odds of Carolina beating TB in regulation last night in TB was only 28% (maybe they actually show this somewhere?), but they actually defied those odds and won, that will change the overall projection of the rest of the season's final standings.

Rangers up 1-0 in the first. Gregory Campbell had another terrible fight. Anyone else notice the cheap shot Avery threw after they were both down on the ice?

Bruins start Rask and don't show up for the first.

Avery's shot at Campbell going down was the only one he landed.

also watching Rangers-Bruins ... who the hell dresses Ron Duguay for his between-periods studio analysis? The dude is wearing a shiny brown blazer over a purple and green striped shirt with a collar that could be used as a hang-glider ... and he has the thing unbuttoned so his fury chest is showing ... along with the earring and Johnny Rzeznik haircut .... he's in his mid-50s and he looks like he is headed to a disco right after the game ...
