DR HOLLIDAY Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Matt Cooke doesn't deserve to play in this league. If the league doesn't give him 8-10 games based on the actions he took and not on the extent of injury inflicted then this league is a joke. I just saw the play, brutal, what a douche bag.......
Assquatch Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 7-0 Montreal. 18:00 left though so there's a bright side.
bunomatic Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 How much should the Sabres offer him in the off season? Please no.
SDS Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 I hadn't seen it till then (I was commenting on his rep and another cheap shot) but now that I see it he needs to get at least 8-10 games and a warning that next time it's 25+. Matt Cooke doesn't deserve to play in this league. If the league doesn't give him 8-10 games based on the actions he took and not on the extent of injury inflicted then this league is a joke. Suggesting 8-10 games is the joke. Really? You two just watched an assault. "Now Matt, rest up for the playoffs and if you do this again you are going to make us angry!" His career should be suspended indefinitely. Certainly for the remainder of this year and then have hearings over the summer if he can put together a case to be re-instated. If not, he should be done. Period.

Oh it absolutely should be a much longer suspension. But for the NHL, 8-10 games is usually at the upper end of punishment. I was just being realistic based on the NHL's established pattern of "discipline."
Bmwolf21 Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 This is fun (apologies if already posted) and is better than the flow chart that was posted in the past: http://www.nhlwheelofjustice.com/ Give it a spin and see what Matt Cooke will get. I got "paltry fine, no suspension."

I got "paltry fine, no suspension." Addicting and pretty funny. Ryan Miller got a season suspension for hitting Greg Campbell, but when Sidney Crosby did the same thing, it was a "hockey play."

His punk a$$ don't belong in this league but based on Colin Campbells past disciplinary actions I know Cooke will get off relatively easy. In case you hadn't noticed 8-10 is at the high end for this league.
shrader Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 That was a hit that exactly defined the new head shot rules. And administered by a guy with a long rep. And hasn't he been suspended once this year already? This guy needs the same suspension Gillies got. Make him finish the regular season in the pressbox. It has nothing to do with thew new head shots really. That was a hit that has always been illegal in the NHL. The new stuff is about blindside shoulders to the head. I'll give the NHL credit for one thing, they have always enforced those kind of elbows (though not strictly enough).
Eleven Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Looks like Matt Cooke will be sitting on a slightly-worn green leather couch this afternoon. Had I known, I would have farted on it last week.
spndnchz Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 Rumors from good sources say that Mario had a talking with Cooke and was told to change the way he plays, or leave.
Eleven Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Rumors from good sources say that Mario had a talking with Cooke and was told to change the way he plays, or leave. I believe you, but Mario would be even smarter to say this publicly in the wake of his recent comments.
spndnchz Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 TSN: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke has an in-person hearing with NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell in Toronto today at 1:30pm et, stemming from his elbow to the head of New York Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh.
shrader Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Rumors from good sources say that Mario had a talking with Cooke and was told to change the way he plays, or leave. Good luck with that one Mario. Short of a lifetime suspension, you're still paying him for 2 more years no matter what he does.
spndnchz Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 They say that the Pens organization has already prepared a statement supporting the league's decision. Players and mng't fed up with him. I'd say the season, maybe the playoffs. Suspended 4 times in the past 7 seasons. 3 times in he last two.. com'on.

If the league and the team had balls; the league would suspend him for the rest of the regular season and then the Penguins would suspend him for the playoffs.
spndnchz Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 RIT fans unite: Leafs sign forward Tyler Brenner to a two-year entry level contract.
dEnnis the Menace Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 RIT fans unite: Leafs sign forward Tyler Brenner to a two-year entry level contract. Can you post a link? Nevermind: Found it on Toronto's Site. I'm happy for him, as he was my favorite player at RIT...but at the same time, he'll be playing for the team I most despise.
K-9 Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Did I just see that Lydman is at a +32 for the season? We could use him in the final two minutes of many games. GO SABRES!!!
spndnchz Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 Manny Malhotra of the Canucks done for the year. Eye surgery.
spndnchz Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 Cooke suspended through the first round of playoffs. That's like 16 possible games.
SabresFan526 Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Cooke suspended through the first round of playoffs. That's like 16 possible games. TSN Link I still think it's not enough. He should be gone for the rest of this year and all of the playoffs. It's disappointing that he gets play after the first round. Hopefully, the Penguins lose in the first and that will really teach him a lesson. That means his entire season is over. This guy really needs to be taught a lesson. I'm interested to see how the Penguins react and if they will actually stand by all their posturing about head shots and actually buy-out or get rid of Cooke altogether. He's a totally worthless player.
LGR4GM Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Finally a somewhat worthy suspension, maybe old cookie boy will get the point, but i doubt it, its only a matter of time until cooke hits the wrong player on the wrong day on the wrong shift and someone beats him to a pulp
Cereal Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Reports: Ovechkin to be out 7-10 days for a "nagging injury". http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=556742 For what it's worth, we play @WAS in 12 days.

While I hope Mario did talk to Cooke, I agree with 11 - he needs to come out and publicly denounce Cooke's tactics and actions, espcially after that statement 66 made after the Isles debacle. I don't want to hear about how they're really really mad at him and gave him a stern lecture. TSN Link I still think it's not enough. Of course the length of this suspension is the NHL's idea of throwing the book at someone.
