Cooke just elbowed McDonough to the head. He got tossed an now Rangers get a 5m PP tied at 1-1. Vicious hit. Suspension likely coming.

And then Kunitz gets a SHORTY!!!!! 2-1 Pit

And now Pit gets a 4m minor resulting in a 1:42 5 on 3...

Rangers score with 8 seconds left on 5 on 3. Now got 1:30 left of 5 on 4..

And seconds later, Rangers get one from Callahan.. Rangers 3-2

I know I'm not supposed to but I'm completely rooting for the Rags.

When is Cooke going to wise up and/or when is the league going to throw down the hammer on him? Give him five-ten games now and tell him "the next time you are involved we are going to throw the book at you."

He clearly lost the game for his team. I'm sure discipline will start in the lockerroom.

That's a good start but it needs to continue past the dressing room doors. He just doesn't get it or doesn't care.

Maybe after Mario sells the team.

Haven't seen a clip yet. How bad was the elbow?

Skated at full speed parallel to the centerline and smacked him right in the chops. I've seen worse, but he got tossed immediately. It's going to be a suspension.

Doesn't this mirror the discussion in the Chara thread where the league doesn't seem to throw the book at egregious hits and repeat offenders? I maintain that the league needs to be proactive protecting its players much like the NFL on headshots and defenseless players.

There may have been more egregious but it was still blatant headhunting with an elbow. Just another dirt bag move by a career dirt bag.

but the league continues to let career dirt bags get away with minor slaps on the wrist. They didn't do much for that guy who went headhunting the game after his suspension (name escapes me sorry).

Rags-Pens was really looking like some playoff hockey. Getting excited for the most wonderful time of the year!

Also getting really tired of Matt Cooke...

My son is a diehard PITT-anything fan. He's having a tough year: Steelers lose The Bowl, Pitt gets bounced by Butler in NCAA and now Rangers dump his Guins.

For myself, I finally root for a Pit team and they disappoint me and leave me feeling just a little dirty.

That was a statement win by the Rangers.

I think it is a ten gamer with his rep

Also want to hear ole Mario say soemthing now as well

Mario is always silent when it doesn't benefit his team.

That was a hit that exactly defined the new head shot rules. And administered by a guy with a long rep. And hasn't he been suspended once this year already?

This guy needs the same suspension Gillies got. Make him finish the regular season in the pressbox.

I hadn't seen it till then (I was commenting on his rep and another cheap shot) but now that I see it he needs to get at least 8-10 games and a warning that next time it's 25+.

Matt Cooke doesn't deserve to play in this league. If the league doesn't give him 8-10 games based on the actions he took and not on the extent of injury inflicted then this league is a joke.

How much should the Sabres offer him in the off season?

It's been a joke for a long regarding these types of incidents.

Agreed. In fact...

If Lemieux wants to be such a leader in the charge to ban headshots from the game, he can suspend Cooke himself. Otherwise, Lemieux is the joke.

I know this isn't going to happen, but I really want some owner writing a letter to all owners and Gary Bettman stating something like the following,

"If Mario Lemieux continues to employ players like Matt Cooke on his team, then I need to re-examine my participation in the NHL. Matt Cooke is exactly the type of player that needs to be removed from the NHL and he is exactly the type of player that the NHL, the players, owners, GMs are all trying to fight against by instituting new rules to protect players. Unfortunately, Matt Cooke, and by extension, his owner, Mr. Lemieux, does not really believe that player safety is of utmost importance to the NHL. Mr. Lemieux's hypocrisy in this regard with the continued employment of Matt Cooke is especially notable in the wake of his star player and the NHL's star player, Sidney Crosby, being injured due to concussions and a headshot. If Mr. Lemieux is serious about the NHL taking a stand against headshots, then it must start with the players on his own team such as Matt Cooke. If this type of disgusting behavior continues from the Pittsburgh Penguins and Matt Cooke, then I must re-examine my involvement with the NHL. I am also investigating legal action and discussing with Mr. Donald Fehr and the NHLPA to have Matt Cooke's membership immediately revoked and to have him eliminated from the NHL. If the NHLPA is also serious about protecting its own players, then the NHLPA must also take a stand against Matt Cooke's actions and investigate immediate revocation of his membership."
